strange people, why do you "hate" the unfortunate Kirito?) Simple petty envy or what?)
It's not Kirito's own fault that the author made him this way, as a character he is generally more or less adequate. And yes, basically, in such genres, GGs are always fucking Mary Sues with pianos in the bushes, what's new?) in general, petty inadequate comrades, drink juice and read educational books, you need to take a break from games and manga)
The reason for the hate has to do with the perception of whether the character earned his bad ass status.

Let's use Ainz from Overlord for example, he devoted a large chunk of his life to playing the game that became real. He started off weak, got some help and made some friends, and earned the trust of his guild, which paid off when he was nominated to become the leader of a new one. His power comes from a lengthy time dedicated to leveling, learning the game, spending a ton of money, earning loyalty through his devotion to his guild, and continual clashes with others due to being in a pvp guild. He also knows how to take on fights in cooperation with others. His harem (and guild mates) love him because he shows again and again that he'll put those close to him first, he's earned social skills through leadership, real world work, and spending time with his guildmates, and he's a bad ass who walked the road to get there. Basically by the time we see Ainz kicking ass, he's a well-rounded guy (for a online gamer), we expect an old (relative to Kirito) veteran to be good.

Based on my understanding of what others have said (I haven't watched SAO), Kirito, in contrast, is literally a teenage kid who's just better than everyone else because of "training" (which others should have been able to do too, but somehow he gets more benefits then most.) He beats veterans and overcomes difficult situations because he's just THAT good. His harem loves him despite realistically a kid who spent so much time in game leveling, and being a teenager on top of that, would have poor social skills, until he had a chance to develop them as he aged. The justification for his bad ass status comes across as flimsy and premature.

Both of these are MMO wish fulfillment characters, but if I asked who here would prefer Ainz to Kirito, for most it would be no contest. It's worth noting, most would consider Ainz a VILLIAN.

Alright, since I'm seeing so many people struggle with this, I'll leave a comment for y'all.

This is for those struggling with loading saves due to it leading to a black screen and pretty much freezing the game. When you want to load a save after opening the game, you first HAVE to start a "New game". After you get to the point where you can control the character (make Kirito move with the W,A,S,D keys), you need to return the the main menu. (Press X to open the game menu, scroll down, select the last option which is "End game" and then select the first option from the follow up menu that pops up, which is basically the "To the Title Screen".)

This should take you to the main menu. Now, you can click "Continue" and select which save file you want to load. This pretty much always works for me. If you try to load a save file directly without starting a new game first, 9 times out of 10 it leads to a black screen.

TL;DR: Start a new game and exit/return back to the main menu before loading a save file.

this. overlord is power fantasy done right and the author know thing about mmorpg. while sao author has none. overlord has proper classes while sao only has melee. because author is too lazy to explore the complexity of adding other class for PVE and PVP so he created this mess of a game.
the PVP aspect was not even fully developed. the ending of SAO aincrad arc was premature, probably because author reach is limit in writing it so he decided to end it prematurely and create another vmorpg for kirito to explore. which turns out into another unpolished game arc where he just copy pasted same shit in sao but added flight and some magic.

oh somehow kirito manage to beat his cousin to sword fight, the cousin is a national kendo champion who train her body rigorously on daily basis and know how to do proper swordstrike, sure kendo is limited since its only as sport and not martial arts like HEMA, but kirito only plays VRMMORPG and don't even train his body like suguha. remember he undergo rehab to just properly walk after spending years bedridden so he only recovered his strength which is not much since he only spend is days play games.

the author don't even question is writing. he just put stuff that will make his character cool even though it doesn't make any sense. suddenly kirito is a skilled hacker (came out of nowhere) and after playing games, kirito develop his own sword style. without training with a sword master IRL, reading historical sword manuals. he just play game and suddenly became a sword master and now training that other guy Alicization .

also Alicization doesn't make any sense. iirc its about developing AI for unmaned weapon like jets but somehow it ended with another medieval type fantasy that involves sword. WHAT?

For Blank screen issue if using 4.0 I have found loading save 20 then exiting to the main menu through the menu not F5 then loading your save will work, not sure on 3.1 I assume something similar can be done.

For everyone asking for 4.0 save it has the same issue as 3.1 did where the event room is missing a lot of the new CGs so I assume a bug fix will be coming in the future or it's somehow my game but to sum it up it's missing most of the new Asuna scenes, does have new random scenes and does have the new mini scenes on the computer forum.

Oh, they answered me ... Well, well.
For starters, the comparison of Ainz and Kirito is extremely inappropriate, there is nothing similar at all (we do not consider alicization).
Further, Ainz is far from being such a "hard worker" as you described here, he has so many buns, freebies and pianos in the bushes, and even without bushes he has been and will be. Oh yeah, don't forget that he came into the world along with the whole guild, a bunch of strong NPCs, a bunch of powerful junk in the treasury from other top players, with development a cut above the average in the world, that is, he is, in fact and by default, stronger most of that world Originally! And you're going to say something else about "labor"?) Don't make my slippers laugh. I also laughed at "Diplomacy", where is "diplomacy"?) There is some attempt at a political game, with a bunch of advisers, but it is Ainz himself who is completely bottomed in politics, and most successes are stupid strength and luck. At the same time, I'm not saying that "Overlord" is a bad work or something like that, on the contrary, it's a completely normal title for its genre and audience.
As for Kirito, of course, he also has a lot of pianos, which was noted by me in the first post, but some of his capabilities are fully explained. From a young age, he was a kind of "genius" in technology and programming (even in reality this is possible, though only a few, if you are stupid, then I'm sorry, you were not included in that list of 0.05%), plus, Kirito actually scored on the world and plunged into study, games, programming, on which later, in the course of the plot, he traveled. Plus, he has some skill in thinking. At the expense of the "harem", there the main person was immediately indicated plus or minus, and the fact that Kawahiro wrote each story with a new girl is the problem of the author - Reki, and what does the character have to do with it? Plus, they are more friends, not a "harem", yes, some "love" him, but there is more of a slight falling in love out of gratitude for the fact that he morally or physically helped, against the background of the fact that everything was bad with them before. By the way, a moment of humor, he (the author) Kirito almost made a gender bender, but later changed his mind and wrote that the avatar was just "feminine". In general, one has both pluses and minuses, and the second, even though this is not a correct comparison.

No I do not agree.
The author of Overlord also understands little about MMOs, maybe in some moments he understands better than the naive Reki, but on average, both are on the same level.
About the letter. Reki said on this occasion that, firstly, this was his first serious work, and secondly, there were also a number of difficulties here. Expect something phenomenal from a young and inexperienced author? What did you smoke?
Further, the "victory" over Suguha was, firstly, obviously accidental, plus do not forget that she did not take him seriously, and when she took it, this "fighter" got his helmet, and that's it. I can not disagree with how stupid the author left, but what do we have. And yes, he actually stopped playing after SAO, he really started playing a lot after the screen with Asuna, whom he immediately ran to look for and save, what's incomprehensible?
As already mentioned, Alicization is not considered at all.

Tbh this game is one of the few ntr games out there with some proper build up, she's not a whore from the start. I mean, she probably will be, but it's a porn game and it will probably not happen before some time.

It's 0.4 and she's still being corrupted by the ugly bastard, I think this game does it well.
If Asuna begins to admire the cock of the ugly anti-hero, she is already a whore from the start. That's how the author made her. She just doesn't know it yet.
And when the anti-hero says, "I'll make her my sex slave," you can be sure she will. Game pattern. It's corny.
She won't do it out of kindness, pity, naivety.
She will do it obediently and stupidly. Game pattern.
Walking away from patterns is what makes games interesting.
We'll see what happens next.
By the way, they say there's a version 4? Even though it's in Japanese.
