Just read through the last five pages of this thread and I find myself physically pogging at every single piece of information from MD. Unironically everything he's shared recently sounds amazing. What a pillar of a man
Here's the thing, this game has been developed for what? 6 years? Maybe even more? There hasn't been an update to the game in THREE YEARS. He used to have weekly updates on what he's working on, that turned into biweekly updates, that turned to whenever, and finally to an update at the end of the year only stating "still working on v3". I know he's still working on it, and that he talks some of what hes working on in streams. But come on, it's taking excruciatingly long.
What you said is true, I'm not expecting a new update every 2 months, but we're waiting 3 years for what will probably be a very underwhelming update. I've followed this project for a long time, and I've honestly given up over a year ago. I still come to check if there's anything new every few months, and there's rarely even an inkling of news. And just because it's free, it doesn't mean we don't have the right to voice our frustrations, the game is close to perfect with the BIG exception of development time. And honestly, by now, I find it annoying how much amazing art this guy makes that will never even be on the game. I've come to understand that doing the art is what he truly loves, and the game is just a way of using that art to make a world and story. IMO, he should get someone to work or help him in the game development so he can focus on the art and someone else can focus on the game mechanics and coding. 3 years, and the fucking UI is 90% done, not done, NINETY PERCENT DONE, I'm sorry but that is ridiculous no matter what price or what kind of game it is (yes, I do realise it's not the only thing he's working on, but still). At this pace, TU will be 1/4 of a full game in 10 years, maybe I'll be able to play a full game by the time I'm 60... I don't want to seem ungrateful, it's just that the game is so good, I feel like this is wasted talent.

You know what a "free Passion Project" that purely based on "goodwill" mean? "Nothing is guaranteed".
Passion can easily run dry, drives can be exhausted in a instance, the longer it last, the more IRL changes can affect the project.
There're so many same complains all over the place, YOU ARE JUST EXPECTING TOO MUCH.
Imo, if a game is not finished under a planned timeframe or at a reasonable pace, it'll never be, "forced to stop" will be the best scenario as you can sorta get a closure.
Just enjoy what you get, or forget about it if it bothers you that much. Moaning will just make you looks entitled.

Sorry to break it to you man, but there's no endgame here. The current version of TU is always going to be "the full game".
MD will update it as long as he wants to, at the pace he wants to, as much as he wants to. Along with the contributors and the modders.
If you don't understand what I'm saying, I mean:
There are no plans for a complete and utter narrative ending for the project.
There are going to be individual endings but that's that.

Just because the UI is 90% done, that doesn't mean other things aren't completed.
MD frequently mentioned stuff that were present before the port but aren't a priority to replicate. I assume writing has the highest priority.
You are free to voice your frustrations. Vent as much as you want.
This isn't a creator - customer relationship where you are entitled to X product in Y amount of time.
This is like a national museum anyone can walk into for free. Stuff isn't for sale, some people are proud of it and will defend it, and the creator (and other willing people) donate every now and then.

It's a shame that it's been so long that it'll never be as good as we want it to be. Teraurge does offer something that nobody else offers though so I'm still looking forward to it.

I understand and agree that in a passion project like this nothing is guaranteed, and I'm by no means saying that there NEEDS to be a new update, but I also think it's counter productive to call criticism "entitled". I'm not paying, I'm not entitled to anything, but it's a project that I've followed for years and want to see it succeed because I love it. I see nothing wrong with saying that taking 3 years to make a new update to be too long, because it is a long ass time, but I also don't mean that he has any obligation to release a new update. I get you, there are indeed alot of entitled moaners around, I think Lilith's Throne is a perfect example of this, Inoxia releases alot of updates, on the game and what she's working on, and the amount of people full on insulting her is actually sad to see, those people have no idea it is to make a game. But this is not what I'm doing here, I'm not coming here every week complaining about a new update, I hardly even post anything on this site in fact, I'm just pointing out that 3 years to make an update is a VERY long time for ANY project, and just because someone complains about it, it doesn't automatically mean they're being entitled, people have the right to voice their opinions and frustrations about projects they like.

I've learned some time ago in military strategy that information does not equal intelligence and having data doesn't necessarily allow you to draw conclusions.
We can use this advice in real life as well. We don't see into his schedule or personal life at all and we have no influence over it. I'm trying to relay as much information as possible to clear things up here, since most people here aren't on the discord server where we talk to him regularly.
