I am right in the middle of switching to some 8.1 figures, so of course, lol.
I wondering what they are going to improve/change. I assume there is huge interest to keep stuff compatible as much as possible, so that everyone buying into Genesis 9 will also have a store full of compatible Genesis 8/8.1 (and even Genesis 3 to an extent) stuff.

So I am just guessing that the rig will mostly stay the same, or maybe they'll add bones but not change anything about existing bones. Improving shading again seems kind of unlikely as well. So what could it be?

Kind of hoping its maybe something animation related, or just how morphs and properties are handled to make the whole thing more efficient when lots of morphs are installed.

I missed the whole 8.1 introduction during my hiatus, but it focused on the eyes, mouth, face expressions, and...for some reason splitting torso into head and body?

I'm still quite happy with G3, I use a few G8 figures here and there but am pretty much ignoring 8.1 because at some point you just have so many Daz characters already that 'just' sexy girls aren't gonna cut it anymore...

But then one of my lanes is parodying other games, which used G3 characters primarily, so yeah. Also, still using 4.16, as 4.20 broke a few things that I use occasionally. Some of them may have been fixed, but you might need to buy new things to replace the broken ones...

Anyways, yeah I'm just not all that into 'cutting edge' when it comes to 3D rendering. I rarely use dForce, and whatever features came after that. I just want to tell stories, not chase the latest rendering tech. A faster GPU with more VRAM would be nice though, but yeah the 3090 will fill that bill for me, just hoping for more price drops...

G8.1 didn't seem to last very long if indeed Genesis 9 is now going to be a thing.

In any case, thanks for pointing out the $1.99 with freebie if over $25 sale guys! I've picked over most of those items numerous times, but still found a few that still interested me if the price was right.

maybe (or a kind of wishlist) integrated metamixer and built in metamexer handles in HD, "DForce" musculature and anatomically correct genitalia (they are preparing the store for that) ...

The one thing that would be pretty cool is if they do the 'buy a G9 bundle, get a bunch of older bundles free' like they did when they tried to convince people to jump onboard the G8 bandwagon, but since the bean counters seem to be driving the ship over at Daz3D.com these days, yeah I'm not optimistic about that. Also for me, it'd have to be later G8 and G8.1 bundles, as I already grabbed pretty much all of the earlier pro bundles, with maybe just a couple of exceptions.

Yeah when V8 and M8 were introduced, those were heady times as far as Daz3D.com sales went, but no sense dwelling on what was, what's important is what they will do now...

Am I the only one that thinks Victoria 8.1 is just a little too fugly? I mean, there's realistic, then there's a bit too realistic... Yeah I get that some people want 'more real' looking girls in their porn, but I prefer to lean a bit more to the fantasy curves side. Not overdone (that's a fetish too of course) but yeah a bit more dream girl...

G8.1 serves as a cross-over point to G9 ... there have been a lot of conversion products moving the legacy stuff forward, this leads me to thing the backward compatibility may be limited

That would suck, so I don't want that, but I still believe there is huge economic incentive (people will only keep buying stuff if it works) for them to keep things compatible, so I assume they'll try hard to keep things compatible.

Of course, you could also argue that "they want people to buy everything again", but I am not so sure it really works that way. If Genesis 9 comes out, and is completely incompatible, I likely ignore it unless the new features are unbelieveably awesome. And even then, if its incompatible but awesome, I buy and then... have like one piece of hair and clothing for it? So probably it makes sense to wait then anyways.

Otoh its compatible to my entire library AND has some awesome new feature? I am way more likely to buy it outright, switch my existing figures to it and buy new, exiting (and expensive) stuff that is tailormade to take advantage of the new Genesis 9 features.

I went thru the whole list as well, lol. A couple things were on my wish list already, so that was cool. Crazy how many texture only sets there are.

"they want people to buy everything again"
The beancounter's dream: "everyone refreshes their library" ...

New idiom is only off putting to those with big libraries, which means that their spend reduces over time; whereas shiny new stuff appeals to newcomers will be hooked on the new stuff and will build their libraries on that, I started round about the transition between g3 and g8 and as soon as I understood the difference I assidiously avoided anything less than G8. The advent of converters softened my attitude to the earlier stuff. My guess it'll be the same for those starting with DS.5 with G9 Starter Essentials

Yeah, with a couple of exceptions, texture packs just don't interest me. I have shaders for that in a lot of cases. I'd guess that over 90% of that selection was pose and texture packs.

I'm at the point with texture packs that even doing the a-z and z-a sort, I just have too many poses in some categories to be able to see them all in smart content, which is annoying.

I do have a few texture packs wishlisted, but mainly just for if I need to pick some freebie and only have texture and pose packs to choose from.

Also this comment:

implies DAZ Studio 5 is coming too. Because it shows up in the DIM filters now, and yes, it does!

So looks like that big announcement is actually going to be quite big.

Soooo, EVGA is exiting the graphics card business. They've been Nvidia exclusive pretty much since they were formed at around the same time that Nvidia entered the market in 1999-2001, so this is major news.

EVGA will NOT be releasing any 40 series cards, and once their 30 series (and maybe older) stock runs out, that's it. They are keeping a supply on hand for warranty replacements and such, but they have no interest in working with AMD, or Intel for that matter on GPUs. They are done.

I was seriously considering grabbing an EVGA 3090, but now I'm hesitating again. MSI is the other partner that has cheaper 3090 cards, but some of you may be aware about why MSI annoys me (see my archive thread and discussions about Uber Laptop here that I had to pull a sound card daughter board out of the system to get it to work properly...).

Anyways, yeah... I wish that I wasn't stuck with Nvidia because of Iray, but them's the breaks and I don't want to have to convert my stuff to filament or whatever, but yeah once I snag a 3090 or two I'm probably done buying GPUs for a bit. Not so much because of EVGA discontinuing their relationship with Nvidia because of 'lack of respect' on Nvidia's end, but because I'm pretty happy with using 'older' Daz Studio and 4.16 won't support 40 series cards, probably ever...
