JJJ84 you've been called.;)
Last time I sent a DM to Hopes was on 2nd of this month.
And before that was 22nd October.

Haven't had a reply to either of those DMs (last DM Hopes made a reply to was in August), so at this point, there's nothing I can really do other than wait for him to reply back.
And sure, some may say "bombard Hopes's discord server or his DMs" (lol) but I that's not something I'll do either.

And with some people coming out only now (out of woodwork lol) saying "I told ya so it would get abandoned" bla bla, well, the whole Abandoned tag thing on this site is purely that; it's only relevant on this site.

It's a system set by f95zone to just set any games which the devs haven't been active (by either Patreon, discord, other social media, and yes f95zone too lol) for longer than 3 months to be attached with the Abandoned tag.

But this is an f95zone thing only, yet it doesn't necessarily mean it's abandoned.
I've seen other devs who also had gotten Abandoned tag (due to their irl issues etc) come back and put their game development back on track.
And with f95zone's policy, the moderators only remove the tag after the dev releases a new update.

So at this point, yes, it's not good the game's thread had gotten an abandoned tag but it is what it is given it's......the zone lol.
Personally, I'm still in the whole "Gonna wait and see" mode.

One aspect that I definitely do think Hopes needs to correct for the future is his communication.
Cause this approach he's taken of going radio silence I think just hurts the game's growth with its fanbase; and I'm saying this as someone who still loves the game and considers it as one of my favorites.

I have not really paid much attention to this thread so I don't know what is going on, but the last post I saw from him it seemed like things were going well. Hopefully it's not really abandoned.

I agree mostly with you, but you've simiplified the f95 rule for abadonded a little bit.;)
Also I'm too in the "wait and see" mode, but I'm still in this mode even for The Coceter Chronicles. This doesn't mean that I'm in the "I believe we will get an update" mode too.

Game is not abandoned, Dev just gives so little shit to this game that he can't be bothered to show a sign of life for the past 3 months therefore F95 added the tag. But don't worry that his account is still active to collect the donations of his devout bigots.

What is crazy, is that looking at the current trend and how all the devs are slowing down their updates. We may see a day where the most popular games on this site, all have the abandoned tag not because they are abandoned but because the devs didn't show themselves since 3 months or didn't release any update since 16 months.

Could it be that it used to take a year or 6 months before it was considered "abandoned"? Or am I wrong and it was always 3 months?.

it depends on context

  • Abandoned: used in the following cases:
    • The developer states that the development has been permanently suspended.
    • After 3 months of inactivity from the developer's public creator/crowdfunding accounts (Patreon, SS, etc), we will resolve special circumstances or scenarios on a case-by-case basis (no creator accounts, creators developing for free, Patreon accounts under review/ban).
    • No game update has been released for an abnormally long period of time (>18 months).
    • Game threads that are marked On-hold for over 6 months with no game update.
    • Note: this prefix is only removed upon the release of a new update for purchase/download.

Ignoring the rest of your unhinged rant. How would someone being a Patreon of a Dev even if the dev had abandoned the game make them a bigot?

That is a new level of stoopid and that's saying something around here......

You asked one with that sign?
Never support developers that take more than 3 months to update their games. More than 6 months is milking.
Those responsible for this scamming attitude are the simps that encourage procrastination with their wallets.
My bare comfort is knowing they are the ones who invested time and money in these catastrophic projects.
Sometimes hornyy I ask myself how long you've been here.
Also think of the one phrase from a famous men or at least the it is often associated with him::WeSmart:
Only two things are infinite, the universe and zoners stupidity, and I’m sure at least one of them is false.

Did the game do well on steam? If it sold poorly maybe it demotivated the dev to continue? I know it would make me feel pretty shitty.

I don't know what you'd consider "do well", but apparently he did receive a considerable amount of money from it:
Steam is a one time sale. That's the reason why the first week of release is so important for a new game.

Steam takes 30% from the revenue and then come the taxes. Let's assume a optimistic case and 300k is the revenue and a greedy gov with 45% taxes.
Afair is Hopes from Scandinavia and according to a quick 'n dirty google search are the peak taxes there around 25%-55%

Steam revenue300.000$
Steam cut 30%90.000$300.000/100*30
Revenue before taxes210.000$300.000-90.000
Taxes assumed 45%94.500$210.000/100*45
Estimated Revenue115.500$210.000-94.500

I have no clue how healthcare and similar things work there, and to be honest I could not care less.

It should be noted that the values are only assumptions.

What we know in any case is that Steam wants 30%.

The tax rate depends on too many variables that we don't know, e.g. which Scandinavian country exactly, the exact annual income and things that can be deducted from tax and amortisation of operating costs.

Gamalytic's estimates are quite accurate. This was confirmed to me by several devs who have a Steam release behind them.

However, estimated 115K$ is a nice financial cushion - plus the income from Patreon.

Not shocked could he come back with a release who knows this should be a lesson to other devs keep fans of their work updated once a month it doesn't have to be more than a few sentences but months of silence is definitely not the way to go
