Can it be played? ... Well it doesn't crash. It _is_ terribly unbalanced. So think about the math a bit:
  • Start at level 1, need 10 exp to increase
  • level 2 needs 40 exp to increase
  • level 3 needs 70 exp to increase
Projecting this out, to go from level 25 to 26 you would need 730 exp

One explore = 1 exp.

The drop rate of a level 2 opponent is way more rare than the level 20+ characters. Usually a balanced game will keep the opponents within range of your level. Why isn't there a level 1 opponent?

In one play through, by the time I was level 3 (that's exploring 120 times) I only saw the level 2 girl 3 times. That's far too low.

The game was over too fast to really be able to explore the brothel management aspects. Think about the time it takes to get your first girl. Also when balancing, think about the following:
  • If opponent is below your level, you should be able to beat her every time. (level 3 player should be able to beat level 2 opponent even without enhancements)
  • If opponent is the same level as you, you should be able to beat her without save scumming but it would be more of a grind
  • If opponent level is one above your level, then it should be a real challenge. I.e. must have enhancements, might need save scumming.
  • Make sure food production is sufficient to feed all parties, particularly when starting out.
  • Can the player make food? Might be worth adding that mechanic particularly if the grind remains as bad as it is.

The terms "portrait" and "landscape" were around long before Apple was anything other than a fruit.
Can you produce citations for that?

I knew several professional photographers and i was semi-professional for a while and i NEVER heard those terms being used before Apple popularised them.

A "landscape" photo was {generally} horizontal, but there were other aspects that made it one.

{I also remember pro A/V people universally spelling the nickname for a microphone "mike", not "mic" not too long ago...}

According to (also quoted on Wikipedia) the terms were mentioned in the 1932 edition of the OED. Unfortunately I don't have that book on hand to verify. I admit it could just be wrong.

Sounds solid.

However, if it's the OED, that means it was in use in the UK, not necessarily in the US - not that i'm arguing with the citation.

The reason i blamed it on Apple is that i hadn't encountered the terms until they started promoting them, and, as i say, i knew a couple of high-end pro photographers {my mother was in advertising and worked with pro photographers and pro A/V people, and i tagged along sometimes}, and i never heard them say "portrait" or "landscape" {unless referring to pictures of people or trees} - it was always "vertical" or "horizontal".

Incidentally - i'm pretty sure that the etymology officially quoted for the computer term "cookie" is wrong - and that of "worm" and "virus" might be suspect...

Don't know why I'm interested in this debate. But is your claim that apple popularized the terms with the release of the iphone? Or some other product. While anecdotal, I clearly remember my art teacher using portrait and landscape in our classes. And this was in the early 2000's before the iphone was released. I don't have the care to really spend time researching it. But weren't those terms used in art for decades if not centuries. Why wouldn't they transfer over to such a similar art form such as photography.

I'll admit. I'm no photography buff. So maybe there was some other popular term used previously. But honestly. Why exactly does it matter. Portrait view is plenty descriptive enough. Especially when used to describe a portrait of a person. Can almost understand differentiating that versus a vertical view of a landscape. Although still seems a bit silly.
