I understand her mood is supposed to go down, but it doesn't seem right that it would go all the way down to zero for anything less than rape.

(Edit, I see now in the script that it does -60, so technically it wouldn't always go down to 0. But that does seem like a pretty steep change, for something you can't avoid.)
I agree that's a really steep mood cost but you can avoid it. Keep your confidence above 60 and you'll pass the stat check for the bullies almost every time.

Can't say I have been punched in the face too often. But pretty sure if I were, I'm sure I would be in a pretty shit mood afterwards :p

Or you could get the broken perk. Wont effect your mood at all and will max out your desire.

I've been playing the game for the last day and I really enjoy it. Though right now it is rather bare bones. Here are a few thoughts I took away from the game.

-School. I really like the school aspect, but I find the school far too small to make use of the random events. For example, When you go to class you normally, at least for me, go to the three classes before leaving school for the day. There is little reason to explore the school, therefor little change to see the events.

-The Bullies. I enjoyed this event chain a lot. However, it has a few issues. It's a random event so it has the same issues as above, but also you gain confidence so fast that it's hard to get to the end of the chain (the sex scene) before you start ignoring the bullies.

-I hope we will be able to skip fixer missions. I liked the heaven mission and though it was very well done, however, it's not one I would want to do every game. One of the starting fixer events said something about letting up turn down missions, but I'm not sure if that's just in game talk or a planned feature.

-The bar pays really well. I know there are only two fixer mission at the moment, but I got the impression that those missions where meat to give you a lot of your money, more or less. So I was surprised how much you can make on the side jobs. Is that intentional or will the economy be adjusted farther down the line?

I'd figure closer to 150 - 250 instead of the 700+ range. But it's early in development, and balancing will more than likely come later.

I'm glad the Dev isn't doing the same route as the Dev for Agent 17 for his alpha. The equivelence would be : Fixer missions pay max 100, 5 a trick/dance/any other job, and you have to earn 10,000 to progress the story line. Oh, and if you cheat, your $$ is permenantly set to zero. So many items are hundreds of $$ that you are required to buy to progress a story line and you earn something like $7/day, if you remember to do it, and at one point $1000 for one specific step. :(

I could be wrong, but I think Sam_Tail sets it that way so that everything can be tested and found functional before leaving alpha, and to do it without pissing off all of the testers/players.

Once you've attained Whore status, bouncing around the school rooms waiting for a guy to proposition you can be a very effective way to make money. (Depending on your stats, you might just end up giving it away for free more often.)

One of the starting fixer events said something about letting up turn down missions, but I'm not sure if that's just in game talk or a planned feature.
There isn't any time limit to take the mission. If you don't want to do the Haven mission, just don't ever go have the interaction with the Doctor where you say you're ready to go.

whoring at school can make some serious money since you get a lot more event triggers than at the bar. I had days where I easily made 10k+. I hope apartment rent gets added soon need another money sink. since the game wont let me be Dani's sugar mommy.

I played it for a few hours and so far I love it! This is the first time I feel like donating money for crowd funding on Patreon!

It's well written and I like the main plot. I'm not used to visual novels, or even dating sims or other games with sexual content, so for me it's really a great discovery.

It reminds me a bit of the manga TSF Monogatari, for those who know.

Is there a roadmap? In particular, will there be sound? And will the pregnancy aspect be more elaborate with each update?

If anyone knows of other similar games, with a focus on a man turned into a woman and also pregnancy, I'm interested, these are two themes I really like.

Dunno if anyone has a use for it, but I wrote this neat little 'virginify' function for game/scripts/core/functions/player_class.rpy. Anyone can use it for whatever reason they like.

Execute in console with player.virginify()

Python:
##########################################
### Anon VIRGINIFY MOD -- player_class.rpy
##########################################
        def virginify(self):
            self.firstvsex = "You have never had sex so must be a virgin."
            self.vvirgin = True
            self.selling = False
            self.virginbaby = False
            self.rapebaby = False
            self.soldbaby = False
            self.soldprice = 0
            self.vsex = 0
            self.creamsafe = 0
            self.creamnormal = 0
            self.creamdanger = 0
            self.sold = 0
            self.soldpricetotal = 0
            self.rape = 0
            self.iswhore = False
            self.isslut = False
            self.isbroken = False
            self.sexday = 0
            self.pregnancy = 0
            self.days_pregnant = 0
            self.recovering = False
            self.pregbabies = 0

For Haven I found both the water pipe method or the fire method, but both seem to involve either getting captured or jumping out of the window in the end. Is there some other progression I'm missing or is this all?

School will end up bigger with the library, sewing club/cosplay, gaming/gambling so will have a bit more of a feel for the random events. But mostly they are as expansive as they are as they were the test for how I will do it gamewide. Wanted to do it properly in a smaller location to be aware of any issues or limitations before going full scale with them.

Bullies, yeah had that comment a few times. It seems in my attempt to fix the slow confidence gain I ended up in he other direction. I will try to balance as the game goes on.

As for the fixer missions. I want the game to be like skyrim where you can avoid being dragonborn. But it does mean I need to have customisation stuff in a more natural way. Hair and eyes are easy to do with a hairdresser and contacts, breast sizes and skin colour though I have no idea how to add in a lore friendly non Institute way. But the plan is to make it all possible so the Fixer stuff is skippable. With that said though, the Fixer stuff is a big part of the game so by skipping it, you will lose out on a lot of content.

Economy is planned to have some work done to it. But I am avoiding it until the landlord and other money sinks are in.

I'd figure closer to 150 - 250 instead of the 700+ range. But it's early in development, and balancing will more than likely come later.

Sandbox does not have to mean grind. I have tried to keep the fun of a sandbox without any of the frustrations. Up to you to decide if I managed to do it well though. :)

For now. AFAIK Sam said that they will be timed later on in development. Like, I imagine doing Haven during winter would be a major cause for concern.
Sounds like you are mixing two comments together. Institute stuff will eventually be time gated so the Simon mission wont start until 2 weeks into the game to give Sammy time to adjust.

But there will also be timed world events that will happen at specific points regardless of players actions and not wait around to be triggered.

Cool. You also hint in the intro that we'll have to pay rent as well, so I figured the reason it wasn't in yet is because you were still figuring that all out. In an earlier build (and therefore a lot less clothes) I still sent her to the bar even though I owned everything you could at the time, because it was so much fun getting her creampied.

I could swear at one time next to the thread title had VN, which I saw as a negative. Read the description, which was a plus. Then the genre, and I saw 'sandbox' and I was bewildered how the eff that would work, so I decided to check it out. It was later that I found out the difference between VN and Kinetic Novel, after finding out there was even that distinction... With being sandbox, and allowing players free will, Ren'Py for The Fixer seems more of a game engine, in which The Fixer tells a story (like virtually any game) rather that it being a Novel. So it makes sense that the VN would be dropped.

Then again, I could have imagined it...

I was wondering if there was any consensual content (except for selling yourself at the bar job when prompted?) In fact I don't even know how to do whoring outside the bar, though the NPCs keep talking about the highway... I assume it has something to do with the confidence or allure stats, but I'm not sure if there is a threshold for that? Also not sure what is happening with the bullies since I can see there's a cheat for their events but when I actually bump into them they just make some very half-hearted insults and leave.
I love the writing of this game btw, especially the humour in the interactions with Tucker.

If you play soccer after school enough, eventually the boys will invite you to shower with them (which can lead directly to sex), and drink with them out back (which I think maybe can infrequently lead to sex, but also can unlock "dare events," which lead to sex). I think the next update is gonna give Sammy roommates, who you would presumably be able to have some type of consensual interactions with.

In fact I don't even know how to do whoring outside the bar, though the NPCs keep talking about the highway
I believe highway whoring hasn't been implemented yet (I'd love it if it were possible to do it in other locations like the park or lake as well). Right now, the only other place where you can sell yourself is at school. If you have the Whore tag (either by having sold yourself enough at the pub, or by body writing) it might occasionally happen in between classes. If you want to increase your chances, the best way is just to click around between rooms of the school after classes are over. Every time you go to a different room (or hall, soccer field, etc.) there's a chance an event will trigger, and one of those events could be solicitation if you're recognized as a whore (or possibly if you just have really high allure, but it's less likely).

Also not sure what is happening with the bullies since I can see there's a cheat for their events but when I actually bump into them they just make some very half-hearted insults and leave.
When an event with the bullies happens, the game does a "confidence check" to see whether Sammy stands up to them or not. If she just says "Tsk" or acts annoyed, then that means you're passing the confidence check. If she acts sad or upset, that means you're failing the confidence check, and the bully events should escalate (how quickly that happens will depend on how often you're triggering events at school), eventually leading to rape if you don't build up your confidence before it gets that far.

I understand that SamTail is working on a deeper economy that will eventually result in more money sinks, but I think there's still always gonna be a point where the need for money runs out, and the player has to decide whether they want to keep whoring just for fun. It would kinda be nice if there were some other goals to strive for with that. A few ideas off the top of my head...
  • Gaining proficiency in sex or whoring could unlock different positions or locations. The substance of the interaction would be the same (it wouldn't necessarily need different text), but at least there will be an increasing variety of visuals the further in you get. Maybe the endgame of that would be a big gangbang out in the main room of the pub with a bunch of patrons getting involved (or even better, it starts out as just sex with one person out in the public bar area, but each time you trigger that event, more and more people get involved).
  • There could be some achievements for the pub (like getting a certain number of creampies or a certain amount of money in one night, or a much larger number over the span of your entire game) that unlock fun little extras, like unique clothing items (maybe just slight variations on existing stuff, so people who don't want to put in that much grind don't feel like they're missing out too much) or different photoshoot options.
  • Maybe the Institute gives you a mission that requires you to go undercover as a prostitute, but the people you're trying to catch are extremely suspicious, so you need to make it very convincing that you are committed to the whore life. The idea here would be that you would progress through different stages of whoring; maybe start at the bar, then transition to the highway, get noticed there and offered a steady job as an escort for rich men, and eventually unlock something more structured like Haven (if you want to, or you can just keep whoring indefinitely if you feel like it).
All of those options would take a lot of work, granted, and of course SamTail already has a lot to work on. But I do feel like it would be nice if there were some other goal to strive for other than just the "numbers go up" appeal of getting money that you don't need to spend on anything (and, of course, the fun of seeing Sammy get fucked, but we could just watch porn if we didn't want the sex scenes to have any impact on anything else).

Can't say if I remember there being a VN tag, though it's possible. My idea for the main stories has always been to try and have it as a more traditional branching paths VN. But instead of having a bunch of fluff to fill out the days you find in more traditional VNs, I have the sandbox. That way I hope for the stories to have all of the important and interesting parts with none of the filler content between.

I was wondering if there was any consensual content (except for selling yourself at the bar job when prompted?) In fact I don't even know how to do whoring outside the bar, though the NPCs keep talking about the highway... I love the writing of this game btw, especially the humour in the interactions with Tucker.
Romantic encounters with named characters is a bit lacking right now. It's something I hope to remedy with including Emile/Flatmates. These scenes take considerably longer to write and develop though than prostitution/casual sex so it might always be the case of the game lacking larger romance options.

I believe highway whoring hasn't been implemented yet (I'd love it if it were possible to do it in other locations like the park or lake as well). Right now, the only other place where you can sell yourself is at school. Highway whore is more a moniker or social distinction. In reality whoring will be global.

In my mind there are roughly 3 types of people in the Fixer.

Ordinary people just about getting by in life. This would be people working at the institute, Simon, Bob, Teachers and the like. We don't see much of them right now. They will not really accept money for sex.

Then people like Sammy who are described as Gamines (or Urchins if a guy) who are pretty under privileged, and while they are just trying to get by, the world around them doesn't make it easy. These are people like the girls in school, the pub, waitresses and other day workers. The jobs they do are actual jobs, but it is well known that people might proposition them for sex and well known to be accepted. They are not outright advertising themselves but desperate times means it's common for them to accept.

Then you have the Highway whores (or I guess "Haven types" of people and generally the criminal class). These are people who actively advertise themselves for sex. Considered a much lower class of society and a good chance they are homeless, addicts of some sort or some other issues that make them "not normal". A real life equivalent would probably be crackwhore but I felt such a term was a bit too degrading as they aren't quite at that level.

So while the game calls them highway whores, the job won't be restricted to the highway and more a word that means the person makes all their money only from selling sex. If Sammy is a highway whore, you can expect her to get offers no matter where in the world she is (assuming she is dressed for the job) as well as have her stand around and "advertise" herself in places like the park or lake.

But if she does advertise herself outside of places like the highway, she might get arrested, beaten up, shooed away or other less desirable things. People don't want no whores in their good Christian neighbourhood! Best to stick with the rest of the Haven types the game has to offer.

Maybe the Institute gives you a mission that requires you to go undercover as a prostitute, but the people you're trying to catch are extremely suspicious, so you need to make it very convincing that you are committed to the whore life.
When everything is in, progress will be there. You will start working at the diner since early game Sammy wont be willing to work in the pub. This will bring you interaction with the truckers in the day and highway whores at night giving you much more understanding of the world.

Things will then progress to working at the bar since it's better paid and Sammy is more adapted to the world. I want the bar story to also progress where you first days/weeks are somewhat similar to how it is now, but as time progresses they have regular events. 3 ideas in mind are having a shot girl who is someone in minimal clothing walking among the crowd trying to sell over priced shots and generally entertain the customers. Dancers which will of course tie in with the dance troupe storyline and possibly have the troupe dancing there. Topless nights (topless tuesday?) where the girls serve in only their knickers.

Then the gambling cafe which has Sammy start out like a kind of Las Vegas cigarette girl in a braless bunny costume or some such. She has to motivate the gamblers, top up their drinks, sit on their lap or blow their dice type stuff. This will be the naughtiest of the main jobs I have planned and only a very open Sammy will be able to work it. But since this cafe is owned by the landlord, failure to pay rent will have him make you pay off your debt by working there. This will force Sammy into a job she is totally unprepared for.

Highway whoring is a little different since it will be unlocked in a specific way.

You don't have permission to view the spoiler content. Log in or register now.

The point of this story is to introduce it to Sammy so in the beginning it isn't that bad and for a good cause since she would (probably) never do such a thing. She works for the institute after all and there would be better ways to earn money than becoming the lowest of the low. But the more time she spends there for "good" reasons, the more normalised it becomes.

Thank you Sam_Tail for that little synopsis of future world building!

The events, activities and locations that you described will take an already very fun game and make it even better.

I also appreciate that unlike a great many game developers, you actually listen to input from your fans and think about what they have to say. Many developers misconstrue constructive criticism as personal attacks, then dig in their heels and double down on whatever aspect of the game someone didn't like. It's pretty clear from your responses here to people who have been critical of aspects of your game along with some of the changes that you've made and are planning to make, that you consider what your fans/critics have to say, but still decide for yourself the direction in which your world is going to progress.

I've said it before, and I'm sure I'll say it again; I think "The Fixer" is one of the best games on this site. Keep up the good work!

How many weeks in does the character realize she is pregnant? I fast forwarded and it seems like at some point her belly suddenly gets bigger and she goes from not knowing about her pregnancy at all to knowing who the father is, does that happen in natural progression?
