Not every fetish will appeal to everyone, it's ok not getting it.
There is nothing to understand or explain in relation to a fetish. It is simply a matter of taste and preferences. Personally I wouldn't spend much time thinking about why other people like things that I don't. Of course, always assuming that with our tastes and inclinations we are not harming anyone or breaking the law.

Just, in a lot of fantasy games where the female MC is wandering in the wilderness, somehow her basic tool kit consists of a skimpy armor, a sword, a good mirror, a make up kit, a perfectly sharpened razor/knife and an infinite bar of soap. Sure, it's both fantasy and a porn game, so we have two good reasons not to question anything, but pointing out an exception can be fun on it's own too.

Some tension in the story is always better than no tension. Makes for a better fap. I find most vanilla harem games just sickeningly boring. Like what's even the point of making that a game?
The keyword here is vanilla. Those are always boring, I'd be surprised if you didn't feel that way. But to not diverge too far from your point, harems are fun because they give the player a lot of control and allow them to dominate hot people in fun scenarios and that's usually more than enough.

I guess it’s fun to be overpowered for a bit. In GTA its fun to mow down civilians, but after a while the cops show up and they are way more overpowered. So even the GTA power fantasy eventually turns into a high tension horde game where the goal maybe to survive as long as you can. If think about it, what makes a game fun is the variety. It doesn’t really matter if every girl you come across in the game just falls on your dick, as long as it happens a bit differently. We are all basically monkeys and we will keep pushing a button again and again endlessly as long as the outcome is not fixed. The developers‘ job is to fix that probability so that it’s just right. Most adult game devs are lacking in that understanding.
Anyway, I think the above argument doesn’t apply to this game because all said and done it is not a game. It’s a story. But it’s far better because here I get to wank off while pushing a button to move the plot forward. That makes the experience so much better once you open up to the idea. The essentials to a story are a beginning, a middle, and an end. The problem with vanilla harem games is that they just keep going on and on and on. The developers just keep milking the project after a decent start. Every situation that follows is the same as the previous one. I’m talking about games like wvm, awam, etc. Though some them have a lot of effort put into them by the creators they just seem like an attempt to milk an already successful project, with no new ideas.
tl;Dr my point is VNs should tell a story and end. Games should have variety, and since you can’t have infinite variety, they should also end. And so the problem with vanilla is that most creators treat it as a single flavour and make it boring.
Sounds like a nice idea for a management type game.I like that too, do people know more games with that premise? Being in the harem and basically exploring the agency from within rather than from the top. Possibly also just being in a rather equal polycule, since that is to some extent what the more loving-focused harem stories are
