They're talking about Patreon posts concerning the game status, not game updates. The F95 rule is basically, 6 months without word from the dev gets it the abandoned tag. It hasn't quite been that much yet, but the dev went straight from fairly good communication to absolute radio silence, so even at only 4 months the prevailing opinion is that the game is abandoned.

So Wilson has 2-3 months, tops, before the tag is officially applied.

I really hope he resurrects this game before that happens. But I do not expect he will. I will be sad but not surprised to see the tag when the day comes. And I will pour one out to a great game that could have been.

Because some posters were real posters and they're sure steam won't accept them, so they have to spend 4 hours for each and every one of the 3000 renders they have to redo? Because steam will absolutely catapult them to the riches they are seeking?

Followed by 4 months and counting of complete radio silence despite there being 2 (at least?) devs working on this.

That's honestly pathetic, with quite possibly the dumbest reason to hold up development for over a year. This is a good use-case for AI, to replace posters in images - but even if you hate that idea, photoshop has been a thing for a long time now. This is something that should take 4 hours TOTAL, not 4 hours 3000 times.

Even if they manage to finish those re-renders, the fact they've done jack shit for over a year, with weak update(s) prior to that, and been completely useless wrt communication... it's not exactly something that inspires confidence.

This is a dog-ate-my-homework tier excuse.

I'm not defending him,multiple devs tried to make it big with Steam,only to get problems after problems like licenses for songs used etc. .

As of July 2, they were apparently:
"sitting at about 1126 of the roughly 3000 images we need to redo. I'm about halfway through the update, which will be about 850 images or so."

He also mentioned that the recent tariffs had made his day job hell, so that's also eating time and energy.

So there was a bunch of people saying that there was legal trouble that had something to do with posters - what I found seemed to have nothing to do with legal issues and everything to do with wanting to put this on steam.

I used actual band posters in the bar, in Noah’s house, in Lane’s house and in the tattoo parlor.

In order for us to take the next steps of getting the game on Steam, we have to re-render all of the scenes with posters in them. There is no leeway here. Steam will see those posters and deny us instantly with no second attempt.

So, each reworked image eats up about 4 hours time on my computer.

Nobody is forcing them to do this. This sort of thing irritates me to no end - pausing development for massive stretches of time when you're not even halfway done, all in the pursuit of more money. Thank god I never supported this one tbh, I came close a few times but held off simply because they never hit a decent release cadence.

Yeah, the main reason are the posters for which they have to render again the whole scene and I kinda wish that they would compromise quality and just use Photoshop on those posters or something.

Because the way it is right now while the game's not abandoned with all they have to redo I could see them spend most of the next year on this only to release pretty much the same content we currently have, that won't end well for their sub count.

I mean, leaving the posters while putting this game on steam would potentially have opened them up for legal trouble. Technically they could be problematic even without going to steam, but definitely once you start charging money for the product, you stop being able to use copyrighted material in your game without lincense. Which is why they say that Steam would have denied the game with those posters on, because they don't want to risk being liable for that shit.

Steam would likely reject the submission if they noticed the posters. (And they are extra cautious with adult game approvals.)
