The Interim Domain 0.18.0 update #1


And we are working on TID 0.18.0 in full swing now. I mean, we've had work on it going for a while but now we're focused on getting the next update together. We've got a full slate going, including a dramatic turn or two in the main story. And more than a few dramatic moments in the girls stories.

For Saaya fans, after a short "vacation", she makes her return in this update. Once you see her latest event, you'll understand why we chose to give her a pause in the last update. It would've felt a little tonally dissonant to have her party down in her combo scene right next to her having a personal crisis.

Someone on the Discord brought up the topic of being able to play through the stories in a stand-alone mode. This is something we are planning to make as an unlockable in a later update, probably closer to the end of the game's development. Right now, we're just looking at the logistics of making it not only work but work as intended.

EDIT: Looks like I talked about that before. Oops.

Well, not a lot else to talk about when it comes to functionality. Working on N&T really taught us a lot of lessons about what content and UI elements to add. By now, most of the non-story development is clean up, typos and continuity work.

The Interim Domain 0.18.0 update #2


All right, here we are with update #2. A lot has already been packed into it and we're nearing the testing stage (plus coding in audio which always seems to come in late). Content-wise, we have a healthy split between the main story--where the stakes are getting ramped up--and the side stories. More than one girl is starting to have some real moments where their already-complicated lives take a turn.

As some of you have wondered, we are approaching a time where the MC dating around is going to start having ramifications. Maybe it doesn't get out he's sleeping with everyone, but there are some pairings who are going to compare notes. And not everyone will react the same. Some may even be okay with it. Or okay as long as it's a certain person. Others? Well, you have an idea how that may go.


Combination scene: Sammy/Roe
This release's update features a pairing hinted at in an early scene in Roe's story: You, Roe and Sammy go out on the town to show Roe a good time. But a good time within limits (for now). This story sequence shows the dynamic between the two women who may be more alike than one might initially think. As a part of this story, we did have to go back and do a little continuity cleanup on a conversation or two, basically retconning a statement that no longer worked for the narrative as it evolved.

I've played the game before, but god damn does the plot drag immensely. Had the same issue with Now and Then tbh, a lot of the time you spend just reading thoughts with VERY little happening. That'll hurt no matter how interesting the game is.

Updated my compressed Android port of The Interim Domain with LightmanP's multimod to v0.17.0.

Got some basic gestures loaded in: swipe up for save menu, swipe down to hide UI, swipe left to rollback and swipe right to skip. Save files are now stored in the Documents folder. This sometimes means that you may need to close and re-open the port after installing so the save folder is properly created.

Please let me know if you encounter any issues with the port and I'll see what I can do to get them sorted.

I guess we are having different experiences with both The Interim Domain and Now and Then.

I appreciate that Kinderfeld - the dev - uses some narration to cover less important parts of the story versus trying to explain them via renders, slowing the pace of AVN development dramatically.

He is one of the few devs who makes consistent monthly updates and has done so for the more than 3 years I've been a supporter.

His balance in the use of narration and choosing what is important to render has allowed his monthly updates to continue like clockwork!

There are AVNs out there at the other end of the spectrum that use a render to tell far too much of the story (AWAM, for example, is supposed to have 30 playable days and the current PD, #13, has take > 2 years to create and it is still not done; if AWAM ever gets to the finish line, it will be some year > 2050 at the current rate of development).

I think we get a good balance of action (encounters with the women, now with most including some kind of sex), and story render/introspection/narration.

If you prefer more renders and less narration - you are also accepting slower development times - and there are Many AVNs on F95 that can offer you this.

I enjoyed my last rev of TID about 2 weeks ago and I'm looking forward to the next rev of TID in about two weeks.

My notes document is now 10,154 words long and I'm only somewhere like 2/3 to 3/4 through based on the number of relationship scenes left. I've done 82 "days" so far, where I define a day as finishing when it's implied the mc goes to sleep. I am determined tho! Gotta finish the build so I can leave a proper review. Finally

That going unresolved was really pissing me off, even though there was some narrative sense to it.

It's a shame Kinderfeld still hasn't improved the dialogue during sex. It's still often a boner killer. "Well, enough of the pre-flight safety talk. Let me get into position." Seriously? Thankfully I don't think we've had a "m'lady" again, that was so cringe in Now and Then. Have to take a break to decompress, the bad sex takes me right out of the narrative.

Kinderfeld's main characters are the absolute least douchey porn game protags on the planet while maintaining an acute lack of wimpiness. In light of that, I'm perfectly cool with some of the sex talk being a little much.
