I have a big problem with this game and is the Chosen ones. Look, I get the joke but it doesn't work in universe.
I've played 19 hours and in all that time nobody seems to find weird or ask why all the Chosen look and act the same. I can understand that all them sharing the same portrait is just artistic license, but the other problem is that nobody cuestion why Ivala is choosing useless assholes as her Chosen.
Is this going to be referenced in some way or it's just bad writing?

play the game to understand. Also, sierra doesn't have the money to commission unique portraits for every NPC. As a solo dev, her money's better spent on more important stuff.

The origin of the Chosen is revealed later in the story.

Now as to "why" people don't question their quirky behavior...some people do? I'm fairly certain Carina has a line early in the game where she admits she struggles to understand why Ivala puts so much power in the hands of these assholes, but it is not her place to question Ivala's will. Also it is possible to sense that the Chosen do emanate holy energy of some sort, so their connection to Ivala can't really be disproven.

For the rest, the Ivalan nations were almost destroyed by the Incubus King in the previous war, people are desperately looking for any source of power that can protect them and the Chosen, despite being incompetent, are undoubtedly more powerful than your ordinary soldier. The church also probably tries to cover up the Chosen's shitty behavior for most of the population, not good for morale and piety when the direct manifestations of your goddess' power behave like a bunch of immature twats.

Down the line the church would have to either completely whitewash the Chosen or go through a theological nightmare to make sense out of them, but that's something you do after you have dealt with unholy existential threat next to your kingdom's border. Killing before theology!

Sierra released an April fools version 10 years ago that she updated with new sprites as a sort of mini gallery to see how the game has changed over the years.

Someone should tell Sierra that she should grab whatever fan sprites or things that got replaced and add them all to the main game as a gallery unlocked once you complete the game. A gallery where she can go over the history of sprite changes and how characters changed over time is something I'd be interested in. Even if it's only for posterity's sake.

I've gotten to Stineford and am supposed to sleep at the inn and get a cutscene where Robin shows up, but it doesn't happen. I've gone around the city looking for quests and sleeping several times but I just don't get the cutscene. Is there something I could be missing?

Ah, but do general population know that each Chosen is different? Simon and others who work with them know that, but an average person might not... they might think there is only one and that Ivala is reviving him in case he get killed.

Also, keep in mind that they exist for decades by this point so any curiosity about them was probably long gone and the fact they all look and act the same is more or less accepted by now.

And yes, it is referenced and you do get to learn more about them as story progress...

How far into the game are you? Because ProN isn't something you have from the very start. The game creates the necessary variables as they are needed. That means the variable for ProN in your save file doesn't exist, until you have received some Pron and that only happens once you enter the merchant camp near Feroholm for the first time.
Also, be avare that the game occasionally has some almost imperceptible cheat checks. For instance, you wont get the "Incubus Armor" from the cache in devils mountain when you open the final chest and you have more than 100'000sx on you because that is literally impossible to achieve at this point in the game.

I'm in the middle of CH 3, in the Zirantia arc

I'd say self-determination and free will are pretty big parts of the game's central plot. The Chosen are part of that conversation. They aren't just sharing a generic art style, they are all identical. As to why the church wouldn't talk about this... that's actually also pretty important to the plot.

The ending and epilogue are in. All that's left is post game and system updates like the recent battle busts update.

TBH I don't know. I know it's all being worked (well right now I believe Sierra's on a vacation she meant to take last year, but in general) on but I don't recall there being even a quarter mentioned for when the Post game is supposed to finish. As for other system updates and QoL, it seems to me she's using those as stopgap releases so there's no need to do partial releases on post game since there's undoubtedly a lot of writing for a "world of the future" update.
