Always amusing seeing how many haters come out of the woodwork for a tag that means nothing.

Yeah, the dev is active on his discord and on his work, he just hasn't made a release, so the abandoned tag is very funny.

not if you understand why.. its a common thing across multiple VN's ,the f95 "abandoned" tag isn't always 100% accurate instead its like 95% on the mark.
Have fun pretending this place is the gospel on game progress, I suppose. That's not how game dev works.

you can read the words but can you understand them?
i just made a reaction saying that F95 tags aren't always right and your response is i'm treating it like a "gospel"

in case you don't understand what went wrong here, here is picture that represents your reaction to mine:

Uh huh. Saying 95 percent is just being passive aggressive about it.

no that is just you reading it then twisting it to fit your perspective.
it was a statistical representation( with a rough personal estimate for the % ( maybe if someone bothered to double check each and every abandoned game it might change but i doubt it would go lower then 90-10 )

you just don't understand the massive amount off abandoned VN games, which is why F95 added the tag for this site and parameters for it.

Which is 1 year (12 months) no content update = get the abandoned tag (their are some sub parameters to it which i believe if doubled check would allow this not to be marked for abandoned (someone like 2 years no content if <1month subsciber site news/posts but im unsure about that bit))

now you might disagree with this if so i highly suggest you take your argument to a proper thread like" Tags Rules And List " thread.
instead off trying to dispute the site rules and their application with your opinion in this thread.

The point is this: Devlogs, Patreon updates, and Discord contact are not releases. The reason the rules indicate a hard cap at 18 months without a release update is that a developer can release devlogs, Patreon updates, and Discord comments for years, even until their death, demise, or retirement from development. 18 months is a very generous timeframe to release updates for a game that sees version update releases instead of a developer dropping completed games into our laps.

The abandoned tag only has value if you're looking to get the most out of your time here and helps users set healthy expectations--because there are a lot of developers who will move from project idea to project idea without ever completing one--it doesn't mean a game is actually discontinued. Obviously a developer doesn't have to care what an F95 thread says about their game, that's absurd; it's tail wagging the dog behavior if they actually do care.

If you're really that invested, just ignore the tag and keep following along; I know I certainly do.

This is the biggest reason why I don't mind the 18 month abandoned rule.

At some point you just get annoyed by the amount of games that *actually* get abandoned once the dev can't/won't finish the game. Most games that get dropped by their devs usually look like this, longer time in between updates until the dev says fuck it and ghosts.

I've never played this game and my intention was to try it at the next update lol. It's been like a year since I found out about the game and now that I know it's gonna be one of "those" games that likely will take forever to finish or even more probable to get dropped I'm happy to see abandoned tags "early" so I don't feel like I've wasted my time.

Now, I'm probs still gonna wait for the update and check the thread to see if people felt like the wait was worth it before trying it.

The whole thing about devs caring about getting labeled with the tag is not likely to do shit though. It's mainly because 18 months is long enough to know if the dev is serious or not in 99% of all cases.

This much is fair. I'm on the discord and the dev is active. He himself states that this is one of those updates that got away from him, but he isn't abandoning, he's taking his time and making it work. He's putting it material for previews regularly. Sometimes, scale creep happens, but at least he's following through, you know?

I dunno about him "following through." After all, following through would mean an actual update, not just saying that you're not giving up the ghost. And the dev has a financial incentive to not admit that for as long as possible.

And putting up a few slides of previews, even if they do require purchasing new assets, seems like a pretty trivial way to keep things going.

Frankly, the thing that's always stood out to me as odd about this whole affair is the idea that they were remaking the game in a new engine, and... just not releasing it. Like, why wouldn't you release the old chapters as they were completed? Surely, this switch is going to require new saves anyway, so why not let people get their progress back to the cliffhanger while you work on this nominally enormous update?

To be clear, I don't think the dev is actually trying to scam people. If anything, I'd wager the issues are a partly trouble learning new tools mid project, but mostly a mixture of ambitions far outstripping capability, and a pressure to have a more substantial update due to the time between releases. But like I said, they're not capable of delivering what they want to, so they need more time, and then more time passes, so the update needs to be even bigger, but uh-oh, can't deliver on that either, so now even more time is needed, which means an even bigger update, and OH, GOD! It's an ouroboros of failure and self-sabotage!

That said, I also can't fault anyone, especially people paying them, if they feel scammed at this point. It's easier for me to just see incompetency here, because I didn't give the dev money. If I was a monthly subscriber hearing the same song and dance over and over and getting a few slides here and there, I'd probably feel differently when my goodwill was finally sapped.
