Sparks notes on what I worked on this week: It's all story. Writing new scenes, planning out the remainder of the game, locking in the final love interest. I had hoped to start on game renders by now, but we aren't there just yet. Good news is that all I need for this chapter are ready as presets in Daz, so no extended time with redos or fixes once I'm ready to start.
Thank you all so much for your support! We crossed 200 patrons and $1,000/month pledged this month (we briefly crossed the 200 patron mark last month, but cancellations and payment declines swiftly brought that back down). Because of this, I owe you all a poll where you select two renders you want to see. Once that poll finishes, I'll schedule a livestream where you can see me work on the renders live, and I'll try and answer some questions during that time too. Look for that poll to go up early next week and run for about 3-4 days.
This week has not been all sunshine and lollipops though. My air conditioning stopped working on Saturday, and they are estimating having the replacement part I need in stock by the end of September (thanks to COVID-19 for equipment shortages). I live in a fairly hot area, so this is less than ideal. Of course, they had a new unit in stock, so I ended up going with that for several thousand dollars (ugh). My AC will be back and running by the end of the day on Monday though, and I'll have a 10 year warranty on this new unit. Oh, and I ran out of some medication this week.
I've had a horrible time getting in touch with my doctor to get it refilled (even put in the refill request several days BEFORE I ran out). I am shopping for a new doctor since this is the second time this has happened. However, they are a specialist, so that has not been a pleasant experience trying to find a new specialist in the middle of a pandemic either.
Other than that "fun," it's been all polishing the story for Chapter 7, writing the new scenes, and making sure that I'm not screwing myself over in future chapters. Not very interesting for a dev update, I know. I can't reveal specifics or else you might figure out what is coming (more so than you can now, of course). I was hoping more writing would get done this week, but that is definitely something I can't rush.
Chapter 8 will have a lot of new scenes too, given all these changes. I'm hopeful I'll have some time to work on those as I complete renders for Chapter 7. Sometimes it is helpful to shift my creative gears and not just focus on renders for months on end.
YouTube is finally getting some new videos that aren't about organizing your Daz library. Look for those over the next couple of weeks. I've got a nice backlog of ideas, so now it is just finding time to sit down, write an outline, and record and edit.
The final piece I worked on this past week is some improvements for the Android build. I'll continue to look at that throughout Chapter 7's development, just to see if anything can be improved there. I had one generous patron who tested it on his Android devices, and confirmed that it was fully playable with no glitches that he noticed.

I have no interest in the Queen. I get that the goddess has green lighted a harem without consequence, but with all those young lovelies around. I've no interest in a woman of her age and physique. Tastes vary, and if she turns you on I hope you have the opportunity to explore that, as long as it doesn't slow the dev(s) down from advancing the paths with the women I'm pursuingim definitely going all in for her

Well, it continues to be work on the story for the last week. I realized something important with this next chapter (and future ones). I can't just wing the story as much as I have. I have always had a plan for the story overall, but I've let each chapter reveal new insights. I then write those out at the time. However, I've spent a lot more time reviewing my plan for the story from the ending back to the current chapter. From there, I've created a list of the main things that need to happen, some character details I want to reveal, and decisions you, as the player, need to make in each chapter. All this led me to realize that I needed to complete short outlines for my scenes for each chapter until the end of the game before I move forward.
Don't worry, I'm not writing out the rest of the script. I am only getting my scene outlines done for each of the remaining chapters. This does mean that I now know how many chapters there are remaining! It also means that while I will still need to write each scene (other than those in Chapter 7), I have my outline and notes for these scenes. This makes writing much quicker, as I'm basically writing by prompt. I've already figured out if there are any major path or timing issues for a scene, as well. This is a major relief. Not to say I might not insert a fun scene here or there in a future chapter, but I know completely that the story is well-paced, fairly balanced, and all planned out. With 10 ultimate love interests, there is a lot here to cover for each episode and to keep track of.

Future Public Releases?
First, an explainer, in case you haven't heard the term before. A public release is any release of a visual novel that does not require a pledge or other payment to get. A lot of visual novel developers, though fewer these days thanks to things like Steam releases, do public releases weeks after a release to patrons. It is a personal choice for any dev based on a ton of factors, so I pass NO judgment on how anyone else chooses to do it.
For the longest time, I was against public releases. I mean, I put in hundreds of hours of work for each release (this is NOT an exaggeration, and it is not because I have no idea what I'm doing). Don't I deserve at least a few dollars from someone to play the latest release? But my thinking has evolved. Now I feel that the promotion ability of regular public releases outweighs the lost dollars that someone might have otherwise pledged. In fact, I like making as much of my work as available as I can.
If you like it and want to continue to see more of it, hopefully you'll be able to support me on Patreon for at least a few months. You also get other benefits, like polls that determine game content, if you pledge. Patreon, at least for me, isn't about paying for content. It is very much about supporting small, independent creators so they can cover some or all of their costs and perhaps be one of the rare people who can turn their passion into full time work. There is some stuff that I like to reward my patrons with exclusively, especially things like polls. But past that, know that if you're pledging, even for just a time, I appreciate it very much. It's one reason I try to communicate regularly on here.
I did a public release of Chapter 5 of To Be A King several weeks after its Patreon release. I was curious to see what would happen, and I also wanted as many people as possible to see all the new content and game direction. Chapters 1-4 were definitely when it was a side project, so just playing those wasn't going to give anyone a proper idea of what to expect with future releases. I'm sure my YouTube channel has also helped here, but Patreon numbers have been steadily rising each month since the public release of Chapter 5.
Now for me to actually make the announcement you've probably been skimming this post for. At least for Chapter 6, I do plan to offer a public release. When? October 8. I think those supporting me monetarily deserve to get some exclusivity on releases (yes, I know about pirate sites all too well…). If you absolutely can't wait, but you don't pledge currently, you've got the option to pledge for a month to get the latest release.
Tell your friends about the magical world of To Be A King. We have princesses, shady advisors, a petulant prince, and a whole lot of hot chicks. There might even be a wedding sometime soon. Who can say? Well, I guess I can, but I ain't saying nuthin' on that right now. Chapters 1-5 will remain public with Chapter 6 being added to the public release on October 8.

Dev Update #31
The long hard slog to the next release is in motion. It's during these times where I ask, "What am I even doing?" So many hours of work remain, and still not quite anything to show off yet. I do have a fancy spreadsheet that now has my scene counts and lewd scene counts for each chapter and lady. I can safely say now that I know exactly how many scenes a player will encounter, if they are doing a single path. It's good to have this manageable and behind me. Each new chapter will be balanced, events will happen in their proper order, and we have some fun threesomes in future installments of To Be A King. I'm so tempted to put up a spoilers page to show off some of the interesting things, but I'll behave.
My mind has been a bit fatigued from work lately, so I've been taking some extra time to try and clear it. I don't want to have to backtrack and redo a lot of writing because I wrote something when I wasn't even close to my best. Hence the spreadsheet, which, believe it or not, is pretty light work once I get the structure done.

. Let's move on to poll results.We had three polls close since my last dev update. One patron-exclusive poll is because we reached over $1,000/month pledged. With that goal met, I promised two 4K renders to patrons, and a livestream for patrons to watch me set those up and chat with me a bit during that. The winners in that poll were Eliana and Aelinia as Triss and Ciri for some Witcher 3 cosplay (Render #1), and Kaylan and Cassia as sports stars (Render #2). That livestream will be Saturday, October 9 at 1PM US Eastern time. Looking forward to seeing as many patrons there as can make it. The link to the stream will be posted here on Patreon and on my website in the next week or so, and you'll get a reminder the day of. It is going to be a patron exclusive stream.
In the two other polls, everyone could vote for their favorite new character from Chapter 6 and favorite lady in To Be A King overall. The favorite lady was overwhelmingly Princess Aelinia. It wasn't even close. Kaylan stood out as a solid #2, and Princess Cassia was #3, though that was much closer. You can check out that poll result here with everyone. Poor Princess Valentina.
For the favorite new character poll, you all surprised me by overwhelmingly voting for Isabella. Hopefully she doesn't get too close to any lions during her time in the palace. Dinah and Diana finished second and third, with everyone else closely bunched, but much farther behind. More new love interests will be revealed with Chapter 7, and my thanks to everyone who voted!
The progress graphic should be back very soon. Even though I've made a lot of progress for TBaK's story, it doesn't apply directly to Chapter 7, hence nothing to update for that specific graphic. Much progress is being made, but it is making the game better overall and ensuring I have less to think through or correct when I develop future releases.
One other quick note. After I posted about a public release, several people messaged me to let me know that Patreon was cracking down on those since it was adult content posted publicly. Since that time I've seen several devs announce they are pulling public releases due to this. I am going to continue to do some research here, but it's possible I have to nix the public version for this next release. Stay tuned. Thank you for your interest and support!

It was a productive week, despite my day job being very busy. The rewrites and new scenes for Chapter 7 continue to hum along. The rewrites and new scenes ended up being 2/3 of Chapter 7. So much for my optimism about having most of the writing done right after I released Chapter 6. The good news is that all scenes from Chapter 7 through the final chapter are laid out as outlines now. Chapter 8 will be more of the same as Chapter 7 - several scenes to rewrite or write, but at least I know that now going in.
Despite the hectic schedule, I even got time to experiment a bit with render settings in Daz. I've got some new ideas for things to try out once Chapter 7 is done. It's always a "fun" balance between experiments, visual novel development, and my own learning and improvement. Maybe fun is a poor word choice.

OK, so I got addicted to this game recently and wanted to share my thoughts on it. To begin with, I started playing it because of it's Medieval Theme. I have recently been enjoying another game (Price of Power) and was looking for something else to occupy my time in between updates. While vastly different story-wise, it shared the same Medieval setting and I thought the renders looked pretty good as well. I ended up enjoying it so much I found myself thinking about it even when i was not playing it. I ended up finishing it in a few days. It was actually a lot longer than i thought it would be, but that ended up being a good thing as I am already craving more.
Nothing of course if perfect, so there are a few things I would like to mention. First of all, I was rather disappointed that there was no Animation, especially during sex scenes. That really would have made them much more enjoyable. Of course, if the developer is not experienced in animation then I guess its best if they stick to what they know. I also found the Goddess and her Beer craving assistant to be somewhat out of place in this game. It didn't really seem like it belonged with the rest of the story, although it does explain how the MC gets so "lucky" throughout the game. This is my personal opinion of course, but I do not find the MC good looking at all. I think he should have been better looking and at least somewhat younger. Not teenage young or anything, but maybe more like early to mid 30's. He makes a comment later on that he Older than the queen, and she is certainly no spring chicken. Another thing is I do not really like the Jumping from one scene to the next that started happened in later parts of the game. In the beginning you would see the MC talking to one person in their room, then they walk through the hallway or courtyard, spark up a conversation along the way, then arrive at and knock on the door of someone else's room before entering. Later on the MC just jumped from one room to the next without showing the travel in between. Not perhaps some might consider that travel time a waste of renders, but for me it made it more realistic. Oh and the Festival itself seemed to take forever to actually happen. With as much as it was talked about I got the impression it was happening in a matter of days, but it seemed to take weeks. Lastly I feel like there has not been much of an Investigation into finding out whom is plotting against the royal family. Nobody has really even been questioned, even though the King gave permission to do so right from the beginning. Oh well, minor detail but as I said I found myself constantly thinking about this game even when I was not playing it, so all kinds of things went through my head.
On the plus side, this is an Amazing Harem game. There was so many women to have fun with, and the options just keep growing and growing. Thats a great way to prevent boredom from doing the same girl over and over. Two of my personal favorites had to be the Bar Wench and the "alleged" Prostitute. They were just fun scenes and situations. I truly hope I wont eventually have to choose 1 Princess. It would be a hard choice. I think the eldest would make the best queen for sure, but I find Cassia to be the most attractive. Although Valentina is so obsessed with the MC that I don't even know what would happen if you broke her heart. Luckily she is so willing to share. I also like the balance in the game between the women who will have sex with you immediately, and the ones who make you wait for it. It adds a bit of realism into an otherwise unrealistic harem. I am looking forward to having fun with the Servant, Viking Princess, other Bar Wench and Prostitute's mother in the upcoming updates (and I am sure many new girls as well). I am not overly interested in older women like the Queen though. I am thinking about skipping her questline but I am not sure yet. Still deciding.
Ultimately though, I really enjoyed playing this. I am very much looking forward to the next update. It seems like updates are about every 4 months, so I am guessing the next one might be around December. While I hope its sooner, I want the dev to have enough time to add a good size update.
Oh, and here are my predictions for what is ultimately going to happen:
