The explaining things to anyone on the street for the jobs he gets is something I don't necessarily agree with. Generally, the people who work with engineers know what they are talking about. Its like saying that a builder insulates his way in a job by having an architect explain every little nuance in a way a high school kid could understand. Also, the old saying is, "those who can do, those who can't -- teach." I have known many people in my longish life who are just like that. For instance, I had a film teacher who did not know what a mic screen was and completely humiliated themselves in class when we watched a documentary on an African filmmaker and she thought the fuzzy thing on the boom mic was something the filmmaker created based on his hunting. We then had to explain how all that worked to a professor with a PhD in film studies. Some people explain better than others, even if they are an expert at what they do, but fine, math is a horrible example showing my complete ineptitude. Take any other subject, because Lester must be good at something. I can't hack into computers, so he is better than me at it. Outside of ESO I don't play online games and then I only play with people I knew before we played the game. You might say Lester is mediocre at gaming based on how he spoke to his team online, but I have 1000s of hours electronic gaming and he still has more experience than I do at online gaming. I have more hours than a lot of people in tabletop gaming (real gaming to me) and am sure I would be very much more experienced at that then Lester, but he is presented as the leader (not GM, just leader) of his little group. Stories, in particular, stories such as porn, are not very good at taking time to show exactly what someone's life skills are out side of fucking and, truthfully, Don could give Lester whatever skills he wants to. Maybe he is a great cartographer and can help kids in geography (as an example only). the point was just that he could ingratiate the kids to his friendship by helping them where their parents lack. The kids could also have been raised to not judge a book by its cover and don't make snap decisions about someone if they are ugly. I get that it is easy to say Lester is sub-par at everything he does because he is a short fat troll-like individual who has no respect for anyone. There is not enough in this story to make me think I know all about exactly Lester is and anything like that would be supposition on my part. Everything else is just what ifs from a reader of an online story.
