True it is an alpha, but isn't part of the point of an alpha - to float ideas, see if they stick or to see how the audience reacts to it. Granted one should reserve judgmental associations with the material as it could change, but this one seemed different. Not sure why and can't put it in words other than - empty. Its great to see eve’s reaction to Don’s alpha chapter, but should reserve judgement calling a chapter filler or trash until the last edits and revisions are completed. We have seen in the past Don inserting or revising a paragraph to include a flashback scene or Don might add a new scene. Don considers the feedback he receives from his fanbase and editors.
I wish Lester held steadfast with his statement at the end of Ch.25 and started keeping Sarah for himself. I didn’t understand the whole Otis ending as did many in chat. Why declare this at the end of chapter 25 then have Sarah service Otis. Not making much sense. All this does is drag out the interest of certain segment of the population who want to see Sarah with someone else like Otis or Jesse. This story started the three main characters and I hope we see the fates of those same characters.
Regarding Otis - personally I think it's obvious - he taped Jessie, but didn't show it to Dan or Sarah, he did it again in this chapter with Otis. I think Lester is going to use the recordings to use it on or against Dan. Either to break down his will and resistance to what Lester wants or threaten Dan with exposure via blackmail (ala same as Jessie tried) - as Lester has done on previous victims. Why does the landlord in Chicago give Lester free rent - likely bc Lester has something on him.
Note this passage:
Otis was the perfect pawn to push the next phase of Lester’s plan. Sarah had already let herself go with Jesse. Now with Otis in her workplace, his financial stranglehold on the couple could truly begin.
Once Lester discovers who Dan's side hustles are he can/likely will neuter Dan's ability to provide for his family and allow Lester to step in and take active control or subversively use it to show Sarah that Lester is a better provider. Take away the couples monetary options and it's going to create stress fractures in the marriage.
