We could not know that Shelley would simply start to shut down and give up the will to live once we left the dorm behind.
Actually that really was to be expected and sooner then later.
We know she is highly anxious and unstable, she is really fearfull of the outside and the monsters, add her bipolar disorder and her being fresh off her meds...now you take her and put her in physical and mental extrem stress situation...i mean, what do you think what would happen, don't need to be an doctor to know that this was coming.
We have an example of an adult making a very bad choice when Laura left the group without a word and just left the safety of the dorm to try to find her own way - but we know the back story of 'Why' she made this choice.
In Laura's case it's not a bad choice per se, but a mental breakdown.
As for the shower scene, yes the MC did help. I meant that Kallie is saying multiple times the MC should stay, she doesn't want to be alone etc while he is worried about seeing her nude...she said she wanted him stay, so just stay, point.
Personaly i don't understand why this is something the MC is worried about in that situation, that be the last thing on my mind really.
I get the MC don't want to overstep boundaries, but half the scene feels like Kallie says he should stay while he tries to leave...just be there and keep it professional, that is litterally all it takes, no need to make a large fuss out of it and if you get a climpse, well you are adults, really.
s a guy, I also recognize that I have a different threshold for when it is okay to discount the need for privacy versus some of my female friends.
It's been some time since I was reminded of this but imagine coed camping without shower and bathroom facilities - so roughing it of a sort - and a woman needs to go to the bathroom at night, and you are the guy holding the flashlight to help her negotiate roots and rocks until she finds her spot, then not getting an uninvited eyeful while making sure it is safe - including no poison oak/ivy for ex.
I know that we are not talking about life and death in the above scenario but even the illusion of some privacy is important to many women and even some guys, so I think the MC did right by Kallie while helping her recover from the attack and he did it without putting her in any additional danger.
I'm aware and i agree that the ilusion of privacy is important, but place and time, none cares if you see some nude parts in that kind of situation. I begun work as a nurse when i was in my mid 20s, we had coed changing rooms (i think the only one complaining about it was a a girl which liked nude bathing...for some reason) and yeah, your work also includes a lot of women your age or younger (be it as co workers or patients), so being professional and keeping as much privacy as possible (or at least the ilusion of it) is certainly important.
Really same in your example, doubt it would have been much of a problem if you did get a accidental glimpse, or that being something you are worried about.
