I think we can lose track of the impact of the lack of good food and the feeling like you almost always need to be 'on' can have on the MC.
He is the one everyone else is relying on to lead them/make safety happen.
Laura Was dependable then she broke and now can't even be trusted to Not follow the MC when he tells her to stay put.
Shelley is off her meds and does not come across as a particularly stable member of the team even if she was not.
Kallie is only now emerging from under the thumb of a man who was grooming her to be a subservient woman who depended on only him for all things in her life.
The MC is losing weight, eating less to stretch out what food there is, and pushing himself to carefully explore a campus he does not know (and the one student who Should be able to tell him where the science buildings and gyms are... is Shelley... who can barely get to her art classes).
If I was the MC, I would be fighting frustration about my 'team' on top of all the other emotions brought on by lack of food, the dangers outside and the isolation from the rest of the world and its resources.
I think the burgers and fries from the fast-food place they relied on early in the story was the best source of food they've had.
I hope that they can find a dorm with a working kitchen, food and defensible so that they can rest, regroup and search for better weapons and a decent campus map so that they can better plan next steps.
Currently, the edge of their 'map' is only a few hundred meters away and the margin doesn't say 'There be Dragons' it says 'Here be Burned Ones and a Witch.'
Cheers!!
