I think we can lose track of the impact of the lack of good food and the feeling like you almost always need to be 'on' can have on the MC.

He is the one everyone else is relying on to lead them/make safety happen.

Laura Was dependable then she broke and now can't even be trusted to Not follow the MC when he tells her to stay put.

Shelley is off her meds and does not come across as a particularly stable member of the team even if she was not.

Kallie is only now emerging from under the thumb of a man who was grooming her to be a subservient woman who depended on only him for all things in her life.

The MC is losing weight, eating less to stretch out what food there is, and pushing himself to carefully explore a campus he does not know (and the one student who Should be able to tell him where the science buildings and gyms are... is Shelley... who can barely get to her art classes).

If I was the MC, I would be fighting frustration about my 'team' on top of all the other emotions brought on by lack of food, the dangers outside and the isolation from the rest of the world and its resources.

I think the burgers and fries from the fast-food place they relied on early in the story was the best source of food they've had.

I hope that they can find a dorm with a working kitchen, food and defensible so that they can rest, regroup and search for better weapons and a decent campus map so that they can better plan next steps.

Currently, the edge of their 'map' is only a few hundred meters away and the margin doesn't say 'There be Dragons' it says 'Here be Burned Ones and a Witch.'

Cheers!! :coffee:

There are ways - even if they keep them wrapped in plastic, turn the volume up and just communicate in short codes with the squelch button. I like the story so far but none of these people are what I'd call resourceful.
I am truly enjoying the whole experience this game gifts me with and I totally agree that none of the characters are resourceful I would actually be disappointed if they were. After all the MC is a kicked to the curb, recently divorced, stuck in a nowhere job loser who has no survival or military type training. He is thrown into a save these women and be a hero situation that's starting to play on him. He has lost trust in Laura who was his #1 and regardless of what they have been through these women are not going to be resourceful (oh this outfit is cute) lol And all of this is what makes this tale so damned exciting. Oh and how could I forget the most incredible part? They are smack dab in the middle of a horror story they know very little about and are aware they could all lose their lives at any moment and this guy is fuckin' hotties 2 or 3 a day. Ya got to love his resourcefulness.

That too. I just think that turning something into a spear would be more practical for ease of use and the longer reach, since those things spray out.

Unrelated note, how long is it between updates for this game. Because.

Agree with the spear, woulda 100% made a spear. On the spoiler side, didn't kallie need a pair cause she lost all her head gear when ripped to the ground hence "another pair?"
I could be misremembering but swore she needed a new pair. The writing could be interpreted multiple ways but I'm pretty sure he was referring to hats & coat for shelley specifically.

Blunt instruments are pretty easy, too. As was said, a baseball bat if it has a gym or even any length of wood or metal that's in a straight shape.

Yeah, so much this

Laura being the worst of them, 5min after the MC told her to stay (she saying to Kallie she understands why he is pissed and that she and Shelley need to earn trust back), she of course ignores what he said...like man, i so wanted to lay it on her good....sadly no choice for it.
Shelley i wouldn't trust at all, even if she were on her meds. Girl is barely able to find the classroom she uses daily for years...and it sure doesn't look like she would be useful, or could be trusted, with anything other then stress relieve (which also seems to be the only thing she's interested in, besides cloths).
Kallie is the only one which is (kinda) stable and not a liability...so far.

Kinda funny how reliable the 2 highschool girls Carol/Naomi were compared to these girls...

I noticed that too. Plus, the hoodie that they found would work better as a hat, with the hood on, than an actual hat would.

I deliberately showed no interest at all in Shelley (romantically/sexually) and rejected her when she came to MC's room and she comes a little unhinged about it. Not touching that, at any point.

You're missing out on the best tits of the 3.
But he didn't say he rejected Kallie

Shelley has a coat, but iirc needs a hat. Kallie needed the hat, eye protection, and a coat after getting...exuded on, iirc. With Shelley having found a hoodie for her, she now only needs the eye protection (though, of course, none of the characters remember that hoodies have *HOODS* on them, so MC still thinks [was thinking? I've already forgotten a lot of this story] that Kallie needed a hat too). And Laura needed a hat, I think, after her break. She needed *something* after her break. But like the MC says towards the end of the update, if need be, we'll wrap their damn heads with towels or whatever else if we can't find any more hats. And as Pixillin' has brought up, finding a science lab would theoretically solve most of their protective gear needs, provided it wasn't looted out.

That's ok, I'll live. I like me some crazy but not that kind of crazy. After knowing her for a few days and giving her zero indication that I was interested - not flirting even a little bit, she freaked out to the point that I'm worried she might hurt someone. I hope she doesn't get lost in the fog, pretty sure I wouldn't be able to find her again.

Honestly, a heart reaction isn't enough for this comment.

I can't imagine living on essentially McDoubles, vending machine food, and stale pantry safe food for a month. That doesn't even take into account the constant adrenaline spikes, feeling on edge all the time, and the MC's contant need to be the protector of the group.

He can't rely on Laura for a while, Shelley is vastly unreliable, and Kallie is starting to step up but has her own demons. I'm surprised the MC has the stamina for all the sex he's having but it is an AVN after all.

All the people saying they would do this or that, no. You'd be Otis, calling in to work with a cough and then never being seen again. It's so easy to sit behind a keyboard, reading a story, and make what if choices given you have the safety of your home and the knowledge this isn't actually you if you make a bad call.

Largely depends on your background.

I can safely say that I wouldn't be Otis, the way you're describing him. The only times I've called out of work has been when I had actual, serious, sicknesses that laid me up for multiple days. I'm not saying I'd be out there being Superman or anything, but I'd at least be resourceful enough to make a spear if I had an axe and ready access to wood that could be made into a spear.

All you need to make a half-ass spear is a stick and a fire.

I don't think I'd even make a spear (and I'd stop using the axe). They don't seem to see or hear well and they're not fast - but puncturing their skin seems to release more of that gas/vapor stuff. I think knocking them down quickly and then moving away would be the best plan. So club, bat, mop handle anything you can use to push them over.

You appear to be missing the part where *sharpening* a spear is a good idea. Which the axe can be used for. Not only that, but when you can't be outside for long periods of time, you need to make use of indoor wood, most of which is going to need to be shaped down into a spear. That's not even getting into the nightmare that would be trying to make an indoor fire *without* smoke issues.

That's the point of the spear though. A club or bat is still going to release that fog because it's going to burst the pustules on their skin. But not only will it burst more pustules than the (relatively) thin point of a spear, you also need to be in closer to hit them. And in those instances where you do want to just knock them back quickly (which I'm not convinced any of the women in this story can do, considering all of the Burned Ones we've seen besides the Witch have seemingly been male), spears have a blunt side too.

I think the women might be apprehensive but they can do it. I don't know who / what that woman was but the burned ones just seem to be people - who are now slower and mostly deaf and blind. As MC said, they seem to be mostly ambush predators and seem to mostly be attracted by movement. Other than their spray, they don't seem to be any more dangerous than badly wounded people. That's not to say there's zero danger, they have camouflage and are toxic but it's not like they're Predator.
