Vestiges of sanity remain, but maturity has come and gone for me. For the record, there is no such tangible item as a red herring, not even in the NLT universe. If you have any nerd in you, you might find the backstory interesting.
As we are all some combination of nerd/geek/dweeb, perhaps the pervasive lack of intellectual curiosity in here is what is so frustrating. While the subject is 'merely' a porn game, it is not inconsistent with what we see in our terrestrial lives, is it?

Legit question or not, it is way too easy for the lazy posters to come in here and throw out a question without even reading the last two pages. In most cases the answer will be there because of the other lazy posters. In extreme cases, they might even have to go to the very top right hand side of the page and enter their question in the SEARCH box to find an answer.

...and as a bonus, they'd get the answer to their question MUCH more quickly than typing up a post and then waiting for someone to answer the question.

The original answer is correct. All chest keys are the same and will work in any chest, except the ones that have a unique name like "Pirate Chest". In that case the key will have a name that matches the chest name.
I fell for the joke, not because i was lazy or anything. I hate anything to do with fishing, just so you know i havent purchased a single bait or gone fishing one time in this game, i didnt know that a herring was a fish breed until i came in here to read. Also, it's not like i came here asking something basic, like when is the next update or wheres 100% save file, that's just it.
I now know NLT likes to go nerd. Like in LE when the MC uses a calculator with a radio to do a makeshift metal detector, one could think its fiction, but it's real. The reason i fell, is more for lack of interest in the subject than laziness.

When thinking about your educational words to the address of the "lazy posters" it reminded me of an episode of the Ministry of Education of Egypt, this should have happened about 30 years ago +/- 10 years:
The statistical office informed the ministers that 40% of the population in Egypt is illiterate and cannot read or write. The Ministry of Education saw a need for action and started a large-scale poster campaign with the words "Dear illiterate people: learn to read and write!". At the next report from the statistical office, the minisers found that the percentage of illiterate people had not changed. How ungrateful illiterate people are! One wants to help them, and they don't even notice it. What to do ? Clear ! The number of posters must be increased !

Since they go straight to the last page and do not read what others wrote beforehand, instructions to their address are of no use: to write "Read what others wrote! Use the search function" is pointless.
