These are all valid points, but am I typical dev? I'll try and explain it from my point of view.
I came across F95 by accident, and I am so happy that I did. After reading and enjoying a number of VN's I became curious as to how they were made. I found Daz Studio and that was it... I was hooked!
I'm not just talking about the
adult aspect of Daz, which is fun, but I'm talking of 3D in general. I've used a few items in my work so far that are not Daz assets, that needed work in other 3D software before importing and texturing in Daz. Now I know this may sound lame and an easy task to many of you, but this was all alien to me a short while ago and I love every minute of it. My only regret is that I did not find it sooner!
Now to Patreon, as a few comments have touched on this... When I decided to try my hand at creating a VN I had no idea how to proceed. I looked at devs pages here on F95. Most seemed to have a Patreon and a SubscribeStar, so I copied that as it seemed to be a part of the process. I had no clue what to offer for each tier, so I pretty much copied that too, apart from a discord channel, I've no clue, in my gaming days I used Roger Wilco, and that's my limit!
The "goals" I also copied what seemed to be the most frequently used. Now for me, this is the difference... Whether I have 1 or 1,000 patrons, hand on heart as I type this, it would not change any aspect of my life whatsoever. I am actually surprised that people were willing to subscribe at all, I have little experience and even less knowledge.
This story was only ever meant to be kinetic, no choices, just the story. After the release of v0.01a and reading the comments I decided to push myself and try to turn it into more of a VN, and while there are not numerous paths to follow, the points do add subtle changes here and there, to dialogue, extra/less choice maybe. But I have said this before, for me to change the way I envision the characters wouldn't sit well with me.
So with that being said, am I typical dev? I personally don't think so. Making this VN was never meant, or will be about wanting to gain patrons and make money. The benefit of all of this is from the enjoyment that
I get from a new-found passion for attempting to be creative, for what is likely my first time ever in an artistic/written way. And from the knowledge that there are other people enjoying, and maybe getting a few laughs from my efforts. That is my goal!
I had intended to end here but I'll just pick up a couple of comments about the fair in this update... It
was an opportunity to use assets I had that I may never use again. It was also an opportunity to progress the story slightly, and hopefully with a few laughs, while learning a few things about Ren'py code that I had not used up to that point. And the potential there is to have some fun with sounds and delays in this or maybe a future project. This whole project is about
me having fun and learning.
On a final note, please, please, please... If you've been following the updates and after reading each one you feel frustrated or angry, stop reading! Life is too short to waste an hour or two on something you do not enjoy when you could easily be reading something that brings you pleasure. There are a lot more creators out there that are actually talented and know what they're doing!
A final final note, my comment that you quoted ptahn was not intended to be flippant. A person made a funny remark that made me laugh and I replied with what I'd regarded as a humorous reply... There's too much sh*te in the world, we have to find fun wherever and whenever we can!
That's definitely all from me... I'm curious as to how many people hit the spacebar when they noticed this wall of text
