... Why's it called butterfly anyway?

...

People thought they stole butter? Dafuq. Or possibly because some of them have a buttery yellow color? What a stupid way to name an animal. Henceforth they shall be known as Fancywingflies.
How about the German word instead? Schmetterling!

I'm not sure if I love or hate that.

The Swedish fjäril is pretty good, though I can't find out what the etymology is, seems to just be a very old word for the animal. One source does claim it comes from an ancient word with the meaning of flutter.

You know what, flutterfly would be a much superior name.

Wouldn't work in Swedish though, we already call bats fladdermöss (fluttermice).

Ooh Swedish! I can't speak that but I know the basics of a mutually intelligible related language:

Hae Minn Venn! Hvordan har du det? (Hi my friend, How are you?)
I also can say Jeg vill gjerne ha en kapp kaffe (I will like a cup of Coffee).

Svensk venn....du komma fra venn. F95zone....Amerikaner og Engelsk. (Swedish friend, you come from far. F95zone American and English (mainly))

I can't tell if that's Danish or Norwegian, would have to hear it spoken. Buuut since you said it's mutually intelligible it's Norwegian.

There are a few Swedish devs in the scene, but it's often hard to tell since a lot of us are good enough at English that we fly under the radar (until you hear us speak, that is). Aj spik verri good Inglish, nå axxent att ål.

But yeah, I'd be very surprised if North Americans weren't the biggest demographic.
