To my knowledge Heartful maman is only Google translated (which in my opinion doesn't count).
Unedited mtl isn't a translation, it's an abomination.
Ah this game reminds me of Oyako Rankan, pretty sure it's by the same makers. A shame that game never got a full translation.

What does that dude do is that dude just throw the .txt file into a translation program, either Google translate or DeepL, and call it a day even though I did told him that you just can't do that, you should read and check whether that sentence is make sense or not, sure that you can understand some of it if it's a simple sentence, but what if it's a sentence with a complex context? or what if that sentence contain Kanji that can be read in other way than what it should be?
While I was doing the translation for Heartful Maman
One of the character is named "Minoru" with his name in kanji written as "実" and this dude give me so many headache because most of sentence in this dude route rarely come with a honorific (-kun or -san) for example "実は汐梨が大好き" can be translated as "Minoru loves Shiori" or, for some extra flavor, "Minoru really loves Shiori". The problem is when 実 is next to は, it can be read as "Jitsu wa" which mean "actually", and because "実は" is being read as "Jitsu wa" more than "Minoru wa", most of the time, so instead of "実は汐梨が大好き" being translated as "Minoru loves Shiori", it will be translated as "I actually love Shiori", and this problem will go on and on.

You're right, that translation isn't as good sadly. I look forward to your Heartful Maman though. One of my favorites games.
Rough, but here's a sort-of solution to that.
Before you do the MTL switch every instance of 実 with a different kanji. Search-replace, I mean. Not one-by-one.
Then you'll have your MTL say "Banana loves Shiori" or whatever which can then be search-replaced with Minori
Course this will also replace the "Jitsu wa"s, but it's probably less of a problem then. Doesn't sound easy though
In all this I'm assuming you are using MTL and it's the source of the problem. If you are doing manual then I don't know but you would certainly figure it out from context

I actually did that and it was like worked for 75% for the 実 (luckily 80% - 90% for other name) but, luckily, DeepL allowed me to change the translation in case the translation it gave "is not good enough".
The thing about MTL is you just can't throw it and call it a day, you have to QC it to make sure not thing is wrong. Here are some fun thing I encountered
- "元" being translated as "Former" rather than "Hajime" which is one of character in the game.
- "元カレ" being translated as "Former boyfriend" more than "Ex-boyfriend" which is not 100% wrong, but too straightforward for the context of story.
- MC is named "Mao", which is written as "真生" but MTL love to translate to either "Shinsei" or "Masao"
- and the list may go on
- Have some knowledge on the language (Basic to Intermediate is probably enough,but more is better)
- Supervise your CAT program
- QC!!!
