My opinion is that games and devs are so varied that I have no expectations. I have only played a very small percentage of the games out there, but I prefer more substantive updates to microupdates I guess, so I probably fall into the 'more patient' category of players. DL-ing and extracting updates that turn out to be 20 renders and one animation I find a bit irritating (especially given that the risk of malware is obviously higher if you DL 10+ small updates/year instead of 2 larger updates.

I guess I just generally always hope for updates to content I like rather than demanding them, and I try not to apply expectations based on the release schedule of game "X" or "Y" to any other games I like because the dev is different and that is just not realistic. I will admit that for me and my old brain once you start to hit gaps of close to a year between updates I have probably completely forgotten about your game, but those are the choices/risks that devs have to make for themselves based on numerous factors that we know nothing about in their personal lives. I have had enough bad shit go down in my life that I would never be comfortable insisting that a dev meet any schedule demanded by fans (who don't know anything about that dev's life).

If we are going to be serious for a moment, as a subscription based indie porn game, their aim has always been making an never ending game. With that in mind, doing a once a year update is actually outrageous and ludicrous.

A more viable way of is to do seasonal updates, 3~6 months between each updates with enough push with the story plotline especially if it is story based. That model is basically how mainstream gacha game works.

If you are not doing things like that, you SHOULD be finishing the game within 5 years.

All I'm saying is people should be more wise with their wallets, whatever the game and dev you are supporting.

Adding mobile games to a video game metric is going to heavily skew the results since it's like 50% of all games being made nowadays

That comes to a total of $2932, with a 5% cut that is $2785.4 monthly and $33424.8 annually.
Roughly 30% Americans earn less then this, this is basically a full time pay of a avarage person.
That's NOT a hobby pay, and if he is NOT a American and from other areas that pay much less, than thats a hell of a pay check.

Do you even understand what I was trying to explain? I was not trying to compare indie porn game devs to AAA or gacha giants, but stating this BUSINESS MODEL is what most indie porn game devs also use.

I mean monthly getting paid, 3~6 monthly development cycle, updates with story progression and new renders/animation with bugfixes??
Communicate using socials such as Patreon or Subscribe Star to hype the next patch to keep patrion subscribed, with extra goodies for paying customers???

Obviously he is milking the project. If he were serious about development, he would at least hire some people to help with other tasks. Having a full-time salary and progressing this slowly just shows that he slacks off around 90% of the time. I mean, sure, resting is fine—but not 24/7. Plus, when he mentioned that he would abandon the project because long development times, he was obviously bluffing. There’s no way he would let this gold mine stop.

You are kind of right, but sadly you are forgetting a few words that automatically make this a non-pro work, no matter what: Honey Select. Since it uses HS models it can (almost) never be sold because of copyrights.

It is actually use the loophole as developer claim the game developed in hs is free to public so it is not selling and violated the copyright, while developer also collecting donations every month. Not sure if it actually on court how will the judge go.
