But I have very little motivation to replay renpy "Games" 6 times in a row where the core content is "the gameplay" not the texts.
To be fair, I think the pressure of replaying to unlock all content is almost strictly the player's own doing by feeling as if they're obligated to experience everything in the game despite not all content are enjoyable on the same level. IMO, the game is perfectly fine even if you're only playing 1 or 2 routes that you like the most.

However, I also think that games that purposely design multiple routes should come with full gallery unlocked so players can focus on experiencing their choice of route while also being allowed to see extras that they missed out of curiosity.

i think Drifty will course correct in episode 3 or maybe episode 4.
cuz i find it hard to believe even their existing patrons are 100% happy with this.
I don't. I drop patreon too.

Novel and Game are 2 different thing.

I'm okay with replaying Novel multiple times cuz the core content of a novel is the texts.
And I actually don't mind freeroam here and there. I even kinda like it. Some of my favorite renpy games do have freeroams.

But I have very little motivation to replay renpy "Games" 6 times in a row where the core content is "the gameplay" not the texts.

Whether it's BaDIK latest episode or episode 1 and 2 of u4ia, putting "gameplay" as the main content on renpy doesn't make an enjoyable experience to me.
I don't think Renpy is made for gaming, my experience of gameplay on renpy sucked and it's a borderline timewaster.

In Episode 1 of u4ia, how many rerun is needed for a blind playthrough player to stumble upon Paige and Gina the first time in the yacht (without savescumming)? maybe 2 or 3 run
or knowing that we need to clean the room next door for geneva storyline? definitely 2.
It's not findable in the first blind run without savescumming

New Game+ is enjoyable for actual games. It isn't enjoyable at all for renpy.

I am somewhat intrigued about the mysteries here: the woman from the beginning, u4ia, the lullaby and how everyone is connected to it, is there more to MC's father? But I'm not sure if those make up for the weaker parts of the game, make me want to continue playing.
I don't know. I actually never finished LoF (stopped playing when they were about to visit Lexi's place), but I expected something..deeper here? It feels quite flat so far. Is the MC's confidence that low that we repeatedly have to see him sneak up on girls to overhear them gushing over him? They're obviously wanting to "do him" on first sight anyway.

About the girls:
The cast is obviously quite large. The end game screen contains 20 possibly lewdable girls (19 if you take away Ana from the beginning). In the developer notes in OP it says: There are 12 girls in the story. Four of them are important, four less important, and four of them, well, without revealing too much, you will have to choose at some point.
What does that even mean? Anyway, 12 would still be too much imo.

Finally, as it has already been mentioned numerous times, the freeroams suck. They're tedious and disrupt any sort of flow or rhythm.
So yeah not convinced I'll continue playing. But maybe it's also partly my fault for having expected something different.

Not sure how overhearing girls talking about him suddenly equate to having low confidence. MC could literally fuck a few girls that he just met. Maybe just your own choices on how you shape the MC?

Not sure about this either. Probably because you never finished LoF, but plot-wise this is most definitely deeper than LoF. Both games have a lot of focus on personal growth and character relationship/development, but LoF is a pretty straight forward slice of life while this one put more importance on the setting and world building.

I'm not a completionist. I only finished Leap of Faith once on 1 route.
The problem with u4ia is not due to player's completionist behavior, it's because it's designed for you to play it more than once, on renpy, with heavy gameplay elements.

Japanese visual novels have common route, during which you can eventually pick just 1 route we like the most, just like you said.
u4ia doesn't work like that. There's a split between Synne and Lin. And there's also a split between Gina Paige intro and Teagan intro.
The game is designed for us to miss cleaning the bedroom on chapter 1 because it's located on the other side of the house where you have to get out, it's unintuitive.

The AVN designer makes the game missable for you in blind playthrough, so you need to replay them. Drifty putting "gameplay" before "novel", and renpy suck for game.
I would accept this game as a game much more if it's not build on renpy.

The first man you talk to literally tells you there are people on the boat you could ask
i meant making Gina and Paige accompany you to the store instead of Teagan, and then hanging out with them outside.
If you ask for direction from the old man, you can't help him with the box, and if you don't help him with the box, Gina and Paige doesn't accompany you to the store.

Also, what if on your first playthrough you decided to to talk to Teagan first before going back to the old man?
You can't go back. Teagan's talk go directly to the phone store.
u4ia doesn't actually let you have freedom to freeroam and choose the order you talk to people. Specifically for that first scene, if you choose to talk to Teagan first, you skip the old man and Gina and Paige intro entirely.

the beach party is bugged for me. the free roam part where you have to talk to everybody. i can't click any of the arrows to move the screen
I had a similar problem. Only the left and right arrows were available. I had to close and restart the game a couple times and it eventually worked.

Fucking sandbox lol.
