If you explore every freeroam event to its fullest extent and talk with everyone whenever you can, everything is fine.
But, if you only do the bare minimum during freeroams (for instance, for the solo LI Steam achievement), many inconsistencies pop up.
The worst ones I've seen so far have to do with Samantha and Celeste.
- It's possible to speak with Samantha the first time at the bar of the hotel, avoid all other conversations, and then speak with her at the cabin. She'll tell Celeste she has gotten to know the MC better, and she'll let Electra out to play. Weird if the player hasn't exchanged more than 5 sentences with her.
- She also says that the MC reminded her of her ex, but that she cleared this up with him... Which could've never happened either.
- It's possible to have never spoken with Celeste until the hotel when meeting Synne. She will be too familiar with the MC, and the MC will say he saw her address on her suitcase, which is an event that isn't guaranteed.
- If you skip meeting her at the hotel, then you can have your very first conversation with her at the cabin. This conversation does take the whole murder thing into account and won't mention it if their meeting at the hotel was skipped, but at the same time I wonder what they need to talk about if they've never had a conversation. The player would've missed the entire chain of events, and the slate would be clean. Worse, if the MC didn't go to the garage as Celeste was leaving, why is she still there? She only decided to stay after thinking she recognized the MC.
There are many more small inconsistencies depending on avoided interactions during freeroams, which puts these freeroams in a weird limbo state. I can't tell if these inconsistencies are bugs or a design choice. If it's a design choice, I would even prefer that the game force important scenes in VN mode if they were skipped or missed during the freeroam.
For instance, in the case of the garage, after pushing the red button to exit the freeroam, the MC would consider that he really wants to check out the garage first before ending the day. This scene would then play, and most of the above inconsistencies would be solved.
My personal preference would be that people who the MC doesn't interact with actually treat him as an acquaintance or friend-of-friend. It's fine that they think he's attractive, but not every woman is promiscuous, and some would need to actually like him before they're willing to share a bed. From the perspective of these LIs, they would've seen the MC at events walk past them to speak to other people. That's a pretty strong signal to indicate disinterest.
