Yeah, that's not wrong. My guess is that it has more to do with burnout and/or life circumstances getting in the way, but each creator is different. It is a shit ton of work doing a VN and it's not something you learn in writing classes. You can't just write the story - you have to visualize the presentation. And that's something I still struggle with: when I write a scene I describe the render at the same time, kind of a descriptive storyboarding. But sometimes I can't get the scene to look like what I wanted, or sometimes I actually get a better/different visual that turns the scene in a different direction. This is just a theory I came up with to account for the bizarrely high number popular, successful games that lie abandoned. I noticed a majority of them suddenly ceased at the exact same point in their narratives, which also happens to be a notorious hump among aspiring writers in more traditional forms.
I guess it's more akin to a movie director. But you're picking out the clothing, creating the look of the characters, you're learning daz3d, photoshop, denoising, caesium, handbrake, XnConvert, a movie editor, renpy, etc. That's not to complain, this job is still a blast, but I'd wager most people here have no idea the amount of work that goes into it. It doesn't help that we've got frickin' robots like DrPinkCake making us amateurs look bad.
I don't know that I'd say it's a matter of genuine dispute. F95zone is a game in itself to a lot of people. They're not only playing the VN's, they're super interested in the business side of things - who is doing well on Patreon, who is rising and who is falling, etc. It's kind of the same in the movies with how much people love to look at box office returns. And anyone who's been here a while has been hurt by a great game getting abandoned (for me, Demon Boy still hurts). So we got people here playing the F95zone game where it's fun for them to root against me, and it's no skin off their teeth to say some of the dumbest shit imaginable. But I'm not the only game that gets that treatment and it's not a stressor on me because they are easily ignored.I didn't mean to say Unleashed was abandoned though. I didn't realize that was a matter of genuine dispute
