Time is just a matter of experienceFor those translating my game into several languages, and everybody else, I want to give a little heads up. I am working on a translation in Dutch, my native language. I don't know how this will affect those other translations, but I had to change quite a bit in the coding to get it working. So no idea how you manage to do this so quickly.
My translation will be a real translation, not machine made, including translation of those images that have text in it that is relevant to the story. I think Dutch readers will either think it's funny or they will hate it
You can take a look at the rpy files I include in the game folder of my patch, the changes included in those files are the ones needed to make my translation work (almanac and nespaper layouts change a bit but I couldn't make them better). From now on, if you do it right, your Dutch translation release should help me a lot as I won't need to do those little changes anymore - the _() stuff will be already included in the original scripts
The _()'s will be in, no prob. There's one thing, don't know if you have experienced this. But somehow the translation is affecting the code, causing some images that don't have a dialogue not to load. I have no idea what causes it, but I do have a solution. It means I have to make changes in the code in many places.Time is just a matter of experience
In theory, translations don't afffect the way pics are displayed. The code runs normally, searching for both texts and pics first in the language folder and then in the game's 'generic' folder. If you don't have any images in the tl/Dutch folder the game should show the original ones, the same way it shows the English text when reaching an untranslated line.
