I understand your point, but the damage is already done. I can also see why the developer wanted to start fresh by distancing himself from a heavily tarnished image.

That said, even if it’s not so common, developers facing difficulties, whether personal or related to their games, sometimes delete all their accounts suddenly and without warning. It’s unrealistic to apply a single rule to everyone since behaviors, values, and mindsets differ widely.

Unlike you, I doubt his reputation would have survived if he had kept his accounts open, even after publicly apologizing and trying to make amends. I’ve seen several devs hang on, only to give up, rush their game’s ending, or walk away. People don’t forget easily, and forgiveness is rare.

Some time ago, I was in contact with a developer overwhelmed by harsh and constant criticism, some of it very toxic and bordering on harassment. In the end, he rushed his game’s conclusion, deleted all his accounts, and left the adult game scene entirely. The mental pressure was too much despite his efforts to hold on. His case shows that your view isn’t absolute.

Rebuilding a seriously damaged reputation and regaining public trust is very difficult. Some devs fail because a significant part of their audience, full of resentment, simply won’t forgive. A lot of new devs avoid engaging on F95 because of its bad reputation, something often brought up on their Discord servers.

We have already discussed the dev’s mistakes at length; he could have handled things more thoughtfully. But what’s done is done. The situation is now a dead end, and I doubt he could have fixed things after all these bad decisions and their consequences.
It’s unfortunate, a waste of talent, ideas, and potential, but that’s how things are now.
Honestly, if feedback and criticism is such a burden, get someone else to do PR for filter it for you. I'm sure there are several regulars on here and other similar forums who would be willing to fill the role. maybe for a small % of the patreon income or something similar. all would need to be done is have that person monitor the forums and discord, filter useful feedback from griping, pass on the constructive criticism and suggestions. that would help distance yourself as the dev from being overwhelmed when the inevitably social media bandwagon starts rolling, and still maintain some legit feedback to make the game better. as someone with heavy anxiety and depression, it's what I would do. i've had to learn how to work around my issues in life and ngl, still figuring stuff out. but this one is something i truly believe would help.

At this point, it's honestly too late for that; especially if you've been following everything that's happened. If anything, it's the dev you should be talking to.

One major issue is that solo or beginner indie devs often underestimate how important proper PR is. It's not just about making and releasing content; it's about how you present your game, how you communicate, and how you manage your image.

PR isn't something you can just wing or hand off lightly. Done right, it can make a huge difference. Ignored, it can seriously hurt a project, no matter how good the game is.

that is all very true. I was most making the suggestion in regards to helping avoid being overwhelmed like the dev was. and yea, I replied to the wrong comment, that was my bad

Can anyone explain to me what happened here? I just randomly checked in back and I have no clue what is going on here. Is the game abandoned for good? Was it any good?

This game is good for what it is: itsy bitsy folk tale of a prince and his struggles to live up to his parents and his legacy. Some points dragging into Game of Thrones Jeoffrey before and after corronation, other points dragging into the young prince from House of the Dragon who got the burn, literally.

Here are actual developer points of contention about working on this game:

Where did he post this?

I can actually relate to a lot of the points he brought up. I’ve had a bit of experience with indie game development myself, and it’s definitely not easy. You end up doing everything on your own, the actual development, marketing, listening to feedback, fixing mistakes… it takes a toll. I honestly feel bad for the guy.

In my opinion, devs shouldn’t spend too much energy on places like F95 when it comes to comments and reviews. It’s better to focus on paying supporters and subscribers. they’re usually much kinder, more understanding, and easier to deal with. Working solo can already push you close to burnout, and when people don’t appreciate the effort that goes in, it just makes things worse.

I admit I made it known my thoughts on the fact the BodyGuards questionable actions with Dad was a big mistake.
The prostituting MC's mom was another mistake in my book atleast but as that one was optional.
I didn't mind so much so didn't have any real issue with that one.
And I'm guessing quite a few loved both bits.
But as long as it wasn't a forced It was never really gonna stop me enjoying what there was of this game.
