Dunno, every dev always says "this is the biggest update ever" with every release, that's on Patreon Dev: 101, along with "im sick, my family is sick, extremely vague personal issues, my PC exploded, my life is in shambles, etc etc"

I sincerelly haven't seen Irphaeus release cadence since i downloaded the game super long ago, and found it nice but said "i'll keep this one in mind but will let it accumulate some updates", then turned around and downloaded again several months later (the latest update), so, eventho i notice the wait has been huge from that last one, to now, i can't compare it to other releases accurately

As i said, im not complaining, just pointing out that more time doesnt equal a better product, and i'd add now that people usually believe whatever they are told by devs way too easily ~ also, im not feeling the music on this one, its just usually the "dark theme" when the MC is thinking of something important/having nightmares and the "happy theme" when well, something happy happens, that's pretty much it

Im really hoping that the update is really nice, since i really got a liking to this one, the humor is specially good and the cast is gorgeous (*cough*andTakamuraisbestgirlandeveryoneshoudlrealizethat*cough), so ~ really hoping people dont get Patreon Dev 101'd
It's normal to be skeptical, I'm just pointing out that this is 2 updates in one and to at least wait for it to come out before we discuss if it's really lives up to being "the biggest update ever".

Just as there are devs that falsify their circumstances to bullshit their patreons, there are others that are actually facing untimely emergencies; if you check out the Alansya Chronicles thread (great NTR game btw), the dev was actually pressured into posting actual proof of his father's hospitalization on discord an update or two ago (the period around 0.90 - 0.92, can't remember). This is, while honestly disgusting, something I think was owed by the dev to his patreons because of many missed deadlines and because they were paying him for his updates.

Now, I'm not saying that you should start immediately taking every dev's excuse at face value and not doubt them because we all know some of them do it and most of us have lied about our deadlines ourselves. What I'm saying is maybe try looking at things from the dev's perspective; anyone that has ever missed a deadline knows how shitty it feels having to explain your circumstances be it legit or just pure bullshitting. No one wants to intentionally miss a deadline, and I'm sure the dev has already rightly gotten enough flak from his paying customers for this and won't want to see the same thing especially on a site full of leechers.

If you're getting stuff for free, leave any negativity as constructive critique for the dev to better his game rather than giving him the shit that only people paying for the updates can deservedly give.
And no, complaining about the deadline and then saying "I'm not complaining" does not count as constructive nor does it magically make it not a complaint.

Cheers.

Well, i am a sponsor and i must say if you keep on delaying things. You better charge people on the update rather than monthly.
I am not pissed or such, since i vote for a delay (plus plenty of good games to play). But on a more pragmatical thought, maybe it's what best for Irphaeus.
Since it seems the creative process is quite difficult and i am afraid with time delay will be more frequent and long because of this. Also it'll stop people asking the same questions over or bitching about delays (sponsor or not).

Have you actually read my post in its entirety or are you just reacting to everything that triggers you but conveniently ignoring half of the entire text?

Read my post in full, and you might find nuggets like
  1. dev was actually pressured into posting actual proof of his father's hospitalization on discord ... This is, while honestly disgusting, something I think was owed by the dev to his patreons because of many missed deadlines and because they were paying him for his updates.
  2. I'm not saying that you should start immediately taking every dev's excuse at face value and not doubt them because we all know some of them do it and most of us have lied about our deadlines ourselves.
  3. the dev has already rightly gotten enough flak from his paying customers for this and won't want to see the same thing especially on a site full of leechers. (so dont do it if you want him here to engage)
If you have actually read my post, I am all for paying customers (which you and most others here are likely not) giving shit when they are owed a service. I have kindly highlighted the key points in the list above for your reading.

The gist of my post was basically saying if you're getting free stuff, don't complain if its released late and if you have anything negative to say that is not constructive, you should just keep it to yourself. This is not a "whiteknight" post as you claim, but basic online decency. I'm not doing this to get into the pants of the dev or to earn internet brownie points (what for?), but rather, as you have very aptly noted, to voice my opinion on the issue as well as your post which I found unpleasant as you have mine. You can say shit and try pretend you haven't, but I can call you out on it and you can get mad and I can reply.

Are there devs that intentionally miss deadlines? Yeah, sure there are. But most people can smell the bullshit half a mile away, and I'm saying, as leechers, we should at least give them the benefit of the doubt for minor infractions and provide an alternative space for them to actually discuss their game and to get away from their paying customers on discord who are undoubtedly and rightfully giving them shit for the delays. Is this whiteknighting or just being a non-paying user that wants to give back?

Will devs delay their games in order to "cash in an entire month"? Sure they will. You do that enough and you get shit from your patreons like for Alansya Chronicles and end up having to prove to your customers that you are indeed facing family problems or they drop out from your patreon. To put it simply, the consequences suck and you probably won't want to do it too much unless you're legit planning to stop being a dev right after the stunt.

No, you can say negative things about my "favorite dev" and it can still not be a complaint. That is called constructive criticism. Things like "The game sucks because there is no text log" and "the conclusion to this arc horrible, maybe add X element" are negative and yet contributes to the development of an in-progress game. Things like "whn nex updat?" and "<subtle complaint on delayed schedule>, followed by <what i said before was not complaining, yo>" are not, and I, like most people, dislike such comments as you might have noticed.

Music can make or break a product, you uncultured fuck. Just because you don't think it's important doesn't mean everyone else does. There is a reason why AAA budget games hire fucking orchestras for their soundtracks, and why there are millions of views on standalone game soundtracks videos. You can disagree and I can disagree with you on the issue of music in your porn games, and maybe we can come to a conclusion that makes the game better and congratulations, we have a constructive discussion on how to better the game.

More time invested does not always make a better product, I agree since the stuff works like a diminishing returns curve. What I disagree is the point of the curve the development stage of the game is currently at; I believe that returns > investment at the moment, because it IS a big patch, and key features are still being implemented while you seem to disagree and have a problem with the music and the stability of a game.

There, I have replied to each and every one of your concerns in the correct chronological order you have presented them in. I have read your post in its entirety, unlike you mine. This entire exercise took 20 minutes of my time. I do not usually spend this much time on a single post, so no, I do not spend my entire life watching this thread. Care to start reading and posting like a civil person in an argument now?

BTW, using "~" only shows how butthurt you are rather than whatever you are trying to express (unless its butthurt, of course). The amount of failed edge in your comment was honestly painful to go through, so I just thought you should know for future reference. And yes, I honestly enjoy having the moral high ground like most people do, and your comment was the fucking low-hanging fruit I chose to pluck. Do you have the balls to admit that your not-complaint is an actual fucking complaint on not getting free porn on time?

You do also realize that using an ad hominem by calling me a "white knight" from the onset is basically kind of admitting that since my arguments are so valid and you have no actual good rebuttals, that you should start attacking my character to invalidate my post, right? I'm sure you have, since half your post was attacking my character instead of expanding on your points.

Actual TL;DR: I did a proper rebuttal against his comment in chronological order and actually read what he posted unlike him on my post because why not, admitted to liking to have the moral high ground in an argument, asked if he, in turn, had the balls to admit that he fucking complained about not getting free porn on time and gave him shit on his character-attacking post.
How am i ever going to read this?

More time into "development" doesnt mean things get better, look at 6 months updates on SummertimeSaga, or even worse, look at ManicMinxy's 1 year without updates, and you can be sure the update's gonna be like 10minutes of playtime
Eh, it's only a general rule. No guarantee of progress, but usually means something is being done. I'm comfortable applying it here, because the dev is active and the last update was also delayed but had an acceptable amount of content. Past experiences with WA haven't made me worry about the update quality.

They do make me worry a bit about the release cycle. Patrons asking for more each time is the given reason, but as a natural born skeptic I'm mildly concerned that maybe something like bad code getting out of hand is slowing everything down, and getting worse each time. I'd have thought a mostly linear VN would be more or less immune to that kind of thing, but ecchi sensei just took out 6 odd months to fix up the insides of their game, with minimal new content, so not going to make any assumptions or ever be too optimistic about anything (on here, at least).

Anyway, roll on update day. As long as it's not a broken mess xD
