I'll take word quality over word quantity, bub. NO amount of "But it's bigger and they have liiives" makes up for the fact that they went from having decently timed updates, to slower updates, to one update taking over 15 months. Everyone has life events that slow progress of their various activities, professions, and hobbies, this "dev team" is not special. 58,000 words sounds like a lot but how many of those words are actually necessary?

Probably less than 5,000. How much of it is overly verbose dialogue tied to too many ridiculous, repetitive fetch quests, or badly designed puzzles, poorly written and overdone jokes? What A Legend! is not a book, it's not a visual novel, it's an adventure game with porn and at the end of the day most people don't play it for the 58,000 words they play it for the two to three minutes of boobs per update with a large percentage of players either using a complete save they got from someone else to simply view the scenes or they just set it so they can skip unseen dialogue and hold down control. Claiming an update has X amount of words is a strawman argument people used to defend ICSTOR taking years to release Milfy City updates.

MagicNuts is not your friend. They don't know you, they don't care about your existence, you're just a random internet peon who either does or does not pay into their patreon. There's no point in defending them.
Thanks for proving my point. I was just replying to someone who said that people would get upset if this update is not bigger than the previous one, I mentioned dev's words saying this is indeed the largest one in terms of wordcount, and then you came in here saying that wordcount don't matter since it would be just filler. So yeah, haters gonna hate.

For some reason it seems you know why 'most people' play this game (I honestly think that the '2 or 3 minutes of boobs pero update' can't really explain their number of supporters but hey, what would I know, I'm sure you know better). You ask me to not defend someone that doesn't know me and, even if you weren't wrong in that, you would be kind of placing me between a transparent dev team that has been working for 4 years in a top quality product, releasing 6 meaty updates so far that have never disappointed their fans, and people like you who are whining preventively before getting their hands on a free game they don't even like (you can't really say you like this game if you feel it has 'overly verbose dialogue tied to too many ridiculous, repetitive fetch quests, or badly designed puzzles, poorly written and overdone jokes'). So please excuse me if I won't change where I choose to put my trust.

I mean your 'top quality' take is rather subjective. I don't define anything as 'top quality' if it's unfinished. What they have put out is great and definitely entertaining but that has devolved into a lot of excuses and delays. Fanbois gonna fan. You can choose to put your trust into whatever you want as can we all or not. You didn't prove any point here other than your love for the game and devs which is fine but I'm certainly not going to gloss over the fact that the excuses keep piling up and the progress has slowed significantly. Free game or not if you make a point to do something and put it out in the public eye then you are open to criticism that's how it works. Never mind the fact they also have a Patreon. And yes contrary to your belief it is absolutely possible to like a game and still criticize the things you disagree with in hopes that it will become better.

This idea that criticism = hate is preposterous. Everyone wants to white knight and/or play victim.

Now I will give some grace due to the fact it's like a 2 person dev team and it's an ambitious project and I will also give credit for the amount of communication I see but in some ways this may be working against them as if the communication becomes excuses to not meet deadlines it's only going to take so many before people will see it as a trend. And this isn't the only forum btw where people are complaining about the updates.

Please don't mix "excuses" made by fans and which you can read here almost on a daily basis "(They had a baby!", "They had health issues", "Supporters requested larger updates" etc.), and the communication made by the devs themselves, which mentioned having a newborn maybe once or twice and talking about health issues once or twice at most as well. And I don't remember a "Weekly update" where the devs used those topics to "excuse" for "not meet[ing] deadlines" (did they ever communicate any deadline at all...?!).

If you just read this thread, there seem to be a lot (and I mean: A LOT) of excuses on why this update takes so long. But those are from fans (myself included) trying to argue against "Is it abandoned?"-trolls. The devs always were very open and truthful on what they're doing right now or why they took a day or two off.

Just chill. Be patient. It's a free game after all, whether you are a supporter or not. The devs are having fun creating more content (at least I hope so), and we as the players will have fun playing any new content that will be added to the game. It's just a game after all. Made by two people. For fun. To entertain other people. And if on the plus side they can make a living out of it, good for them!

First I'm not mixing excuses. I know exactly what I'm referencing which is excuses around things like baby vs. health vs. flu vs. insert new excuse here. It's not unlike manga and comic creators who have varying health issues. Now could some of those be legitimate? Sure but as I said previously at some point these things showcase a trend. It's especially noticeable when said trend happens to be during the longest dry spell of updates. And no I don't feel bad for understanding the criticism because they put themselves out there for it when they decided to make the game that's what anyone who creates a public work that garners expectations and creates deadlines should understand as it comes with the territory.

Please don't tell me to be chill as if you are trying to analyze my state of being through a text post. I am chill and I am patient but I'm also an analyst by nature and I know a trend when I see one. I also understand that criticism is a catalyst for growth and that much of the criticism I've seen is justified now one can argue the intensity of some of the criticism but that doesn't change the justification for it.

You don't have to agree but you should be able to understand. If you aren't able to understand then it really speaks to your own bias. Perhaps you should chill and be patient and let the process do what it does and that includes letting the critics do their thing. The game will be ok regardless I promise... and even if it wasn't then it simply means that it was too much for them to take on.

Let's summarize the situation. Devs explained why they couldn't spend as much time as they used to (and wished to) during the first months of this development cycle, which obviously has had an impact on the whole project, slowing it down. But as theMickey said, they mentioned it only a couple of times, when those things happened, to let their patrons know, as they should: now, with the info given (a newborn and a serious surgery), plus a little bit of logical thinking (a newborn needs attention, a serious surgery may cause further issues), plus the daily progress tracker showing the slow rate of development, plus the team's 3+ years record to back them, every one of those patrons are free to jump off the boat and stop spending their money on a free but incomplete product that is going to take years to be fully released, or to keep donating. And many of them have chosen to stop pledging, and no one can blame them.

After that, all you may have seen is me and a few others repeating that couple of news whenever someone asked/complained about this update taking too long, trying to make those forum users understand why things are progressing slowly, in case they didn't know (most simply don't care but oh well). Those, plus some poor planning also admitted by the dev, are the reasons why this is 'the longest dry spell of updates', not excuses that create a trend during it. It's semantics, but semantics matter because it shows where we stand when we start to analyze the situation: I see reasons, you see excuses. But it's OK, we all are different. The last 'excuse' we are repeating now is that the dev claimed last week that this update is, indeed, the largest so far -and I'm inclined to believe it because, so far, everything devs have said in the past regarding the amount of content has been proven true or even an understatement. Every update has been bigger than the previous one and needed more time to be released; this one is the biggest yet and they have had those abovementioned issues that can explain why it's taking this particularly long.

That's why, while I get people are free to feel they are being led on, or to think that magicnuts are exploiting their supporters' goodwill, I just can't accept it as a 'valid' take on this case, since all these people have to reach that conclusion is a personal bias against game devs due to some other devs behavior in the past. Everything magicnuts have (or have not) said and done up to this point should lead any rational person to trust in them and their word. Your 'justified' criticism is built on personal assumptions about their work ethics, or maybe personal experiences about how you'd deal with those real life situations, but nothing actually solid. Telling them that they are working 'slowly' means nothing when we don't have any valid standard to compare their work with -except this team's own performance in the past. It's uninformed and unfair criticism. And unfair criticism can only be a catalyst for burnout, not for growth.

At this point, the only way to prove or disprove that magicnuts are exploiting their supporters is to wait until the next update and determine it based on the update quantity and quality. Although people may have different standard for what is good enough for the next update and everyone have the right to feel disappointed and leave if the next update doesn't meet that standard, before the update itself actually come out nobody could really judge.

Wow, I've only seen now that Holly will be the focus in v8.0. That's obviously great for Holly fans because her update that came a while ago wasn't as thorough as everything that came after it... but I had kinda hoped that the main story would continue after Gomira so there's be a rythm of character->story->character->story and so on. In the last story update we've seen that even when the story is in focus, a character can still get their time in the limelight, like with Lana. I would assume Madeleine would be the next in line in the following story update.

Yeh they did that character->story->character->story, by 6 months, but because they need more than 6 months now, they skipped the story part..

Do you know that one more reason why it takes so long to update the game is that dev spends a lot of time writing Weekly report.
IMO, writing weekly report wouldn't that too much time except if the developers are yanderedev level of lazy. I think releasing several smaller release would waste more time to the overall progress of the game development than what the dev doing right now since it takes time to make sure that a playable release don't have major bug and oftentimes, developer that do monthly release would spend several days or even weeks to fix bugs on their previous release

This thread was getting too kind and was focusing too much on discussing the game, time for the same arguments we've been having for the past year!

(sarcasm)
What the hell game do you want to discuss exactly? We'd be having the same discussions we've had since the last update or prior so you think you're going to get some sort of new fresh take on a game that's taking it's sweet time in development? You need a game or some updates to have a discussion... where's that at?

Yeah let's rehash the same old points about the game we had six months ago.

To be fair, it's been over a year and there is nothing left to talk about. There is only so much that can be discussed and hype for future content only lasts so long.

Any large gap for any game leads to the same discussions because people either get bored or frustrated with waiting.

Those in the frustrated camp will drag out ye olde milking arguments and the occasional "dis abandoned?" comment.

Those that love the game stop replying so much because any points about the game they had to make have all been made and even they can't keep a thread going on hype fumes alone.

Sometimes when we think the mods aren't watching some of us like to shitpost for the giggles and try to liven a thread up with funnies, even better if we can find someone preaching that the sky is falling we can mock.

So threads enter this kinda limbo state until the next update comes out and then we rinse and repeat.

It's the ciiiiiiiiiiircle of lifeeeeeee.

Couldn't have said it better myself. Just glad there's people still in this thread, at least. Shows how much passion there is behind this game.
