They had a triple threat of:
  • Scale/Feature creep (update supposedly double the size of previous ones) - classic case with indie (and sometimes even AAA) devs where the amount of work becomes hard to both oversee/manage and actually do. One of the common reasons for abandoned projects.
  • Childbirth - First it creates a pause which is already threatening due to indie devs usually having a fragile work ethic when it comes to delivering regular updates, especially when the project becomes more complex or is in an uninteresting change. It also means both devs (parents) operate on very little sleep (max two hours straight) for years. Sleeplessness is one of the rougher things to have in creative fields.
  • COVID - again, messing up the everyday rhythm and demands a new one to be created/modified. It is threatening due to aforementioned fragile work ethic, but COVID and the lockdowns/adjustments that came with it had a strong effect in general on people's existence. Some found it much easier to get done with their tasks, some struggled even if in theory they had more time and flexibility. COVID break/slowdown doomed or killed the pace for a number of projects.
  • BONUS: The psychological struggle to continue working on something you're ashamed of (assuming they are ashamed this update has taken 4x as long as previous ones).
Now whilst all these reasons are understandable, they're still taking Patreon money and proof of the pudding is in the eating. At some point you need to deliver something more than excuses, be they reasonable or not.

I have sympathy for the devs and I don't expect this to be the best update ever just because it took so long. But if they don't get their work pace back in order within the next two patches (after this) then I foresee this project fizzling out as many others before and after it.

Even if all the bugs are fixed this time, there will be a round of playtesting(more time), which may or may not uncover more bugs(even more time), after which there might be some last minute changes(+time), which will warrant another round of polish and playtest(+time). I'm not saying this will necessarily happen, but I won't be at all surprised if the update gets delayed all the way to next year. Keep in mind that Spanish holiday season is from 25th Dec to 6th Jan, so that's at least 2 weeks they will almost assuredly take off work(good luck getting a spaniard to work on a day off).

Excuses, excuses, excuses, excuses, all of which are not valid. You double the size of the update and that doesn't accommodate for the increased time it's taken. Spawning also doesn't make up for the delay as most self employed families don't have the luxury of just slowing all work down. Covid is also no excuse, the more shaking effects of the pandemic had already passed when the last update released. And if you can't handle making porno... don't make porno.

They've been on vacation for the last two years, the least they can do is push this update out before the 25th.

Stop your Patronage to them then. Otherwise it's kinda rich having that strong of a stance on work ethic whilst on a pirating website.

I think you got that wrong, I'm not the developer of this game. What I post is taken from Kisama33 's progress posts, which are taken from the progress reports at the developer's website.

Regarding the delay of the update, the devs have indirectly said it was due to personal issues, including medical conditions and having a second child. Some people think those are just excuses, some (like myself) don't.

I can't reiterate how absurdly hard it is to do just your daily tasks when operating on regular ~2h of sleep per night that seems to be the average I hear from people with parenting experience. I myself understand it due to being in a similar, but less drastic (~4h per night) situation whilst on field exercises during my military service. I could sleep on a snap and a 2 cm thick camping mattress was softer than 5 star hotel bed. But the security squadron next door got it extra rough and were on 1-2 h per night. Closest I've come to seeing zombies.

That chart does not matter since they already set the release date for the 10th of this month. It would be nice if they released it a few days earlier but I doubt that will happen.

It's not necessarily a bug. One thing they do is go through all of the fan-posted grammar, spelling, and word-choice corrections from previous releases. There are many dozens of them.
