There's no set date for the next update. The last one was released very recently, back in December, so it's still too soon for estimates. There's a daily progress track at their public Discord, and it's posted here from time to time. That will give you an idea of progress until the next release.when can we expect new update, I visited game 2-3years back, it has gotten a lot of content now, the story interests me. Just wanting to know what update cycle is like for this. Tried searching for word "update", it showed like 50 pages of results, so if someone can help me I would be happy

I used to watch the progress bar daily and based on what I noticed I think I can give you an estimate of how long it will take, I noticed that Chestnut who is responsible for the game's art usually does one art task per day and this update has 275 art tasks, they update the taskbar 6 days a week (except on Sunday) in short, it will take at least 46 weeks for her to finish all the art for the update but the fun part is that they always end up adding more tasks during development... so this is estimate is not exactly accurate.when can we expect new update, I visited game 2-3years back, it has gotten a lot of content now, the story interests me. The current average of tasks per day for Chestnut is now around 5 tasks per day. But it's still too soon to have a proper statistic.I used to watch the progress bar daily and based on what I noticed I think I can give you an estimate of how long it will take, I noticed that Chestnut who is responsible for the game's art usually does one art task per day and this update has 275 art tasks, they update the taskbar 6 days a week (except on Sunday) in short, it will take at least 46 weeks for her to finish all the art for the update but the fun part is that they always end up adding more tasks during development... so this is estimate is not exactly accurate.
If you think this is a long time then let me tell you that she always finishes the art tasks before Pistachio, (who is the guy who does the code and everything else) and he still takes some time to finish all the other tasks before release, in the last update he took almost a whole fucking year to finish the last 10% of the game since Chestnut finished the art on January 4, 2024 and the update was released on December 10th.
Anyway if you have faith that they won't repeat the fiasco that was the end of the development of the last update you can add at least a month or two on top of the 46 weeks and you should have more or less an estimated date of when the next update will come out, unless they hire someone to help to draw the backgrounds or someone to help Pistachio with the code (which I doubt they will) I think it is impossible for the next update to come out this year.
how can you take so long to code this game? like cool you told that Chestnut works more, but your programmer still sucks? This whole game, Codewise, is made in 3-4 Months, with AI help like Gemini, Copilot and even ChatGPT or DeepSeek you can break it down to 2 to 4 weeks. and ya´ll ask yourself why you never will hit a Job in the real Game-Dev World. The current average of tasks per day for Chestnut is now around 5 tasks per day. I assume your comment is directed at Pistachio, they guy that does the coding. Assuming that it is, I'm afraid he doesn't come around here much, so he probably won't read your reply.how can you take so long to code this game? like cool you told that Chestnut works more, but your programmer still sucks? I work in this field, i dont need practice exercise. Fact is, coding this isnt hard, especially in engines like Renpy. Ever worked on a Game Engines sourcecode that has 10 million lines of code? Thats a different thing.I assume your comment is directed at Pistachio, they guy that does the coding. Regarding the "it can be done in 2 to 4 weeks" part of your comment, I'd like to suggest this exercise: take the assets from the game (it's Ren'Py, so they're readily available), and create a new game from them, as a practice exercise. I expect you'll have it ready by the 20th, and I hope you share it here as a fan homage. I'd love to see it.![]()
Ewww, Ai-made code.with AI help like Gemini, Copilot and even ChatGPT or DeepSeek you can break it down to 2 to 4 weeks. and ya´ll ask yourself why you never will hit a Job in the real Game-Dev World.
Then I think the problem is one of nomenclature. You see, when I first saw the stats, I also thought that the "code" metrics meant actually programming. It does not. They are not programming anything, as far as I know, in the sense that you and I might understand it. When they talk about "coding", they mean the scripts that place the characters in the scene, pose them, move them around, change their facial expressions, etc. I'm assuming you know Ren'Py, so you already know there's no actual programming in that. But it can still take a lot of time. They are not touching the game engine, as far as I know, nor writing a single line of actual code. Once you adjust your perception of their metrics according to that, it all makes much more sense.I work in this field, i dont need practice exercise. Just for our understanding of what you think coding is... or how long coding... Programming... needs - lets say i want to make a mini game for a videogame. Like say, a riddle game with different answers, failure screen, success, persons talking to each other and all that. Just the Programming part, what do you actually think it takes, timewise, to do that? Then I think the problem is one of nomenclature. Now, regarding the tone of my reply to you. It was sarcastic, and a little mean. But I also think your actual comment saying it can be done in 4 weeks with AI was hyperbolic, so I feel it was warranted. You may feel they take longer than a professional would, I also feel that way. But you must admit that "This whole game, Codewise, is made in 3-4 Months, with AI help" is simply not true. Unless by "codewise" you mean actually programming. Then, it can be done in less than 5 minutes, as they are not actually programming anything.
So I think it was either a matter of misinterpretation or trolling.
