As a staunch defender of Ocean, I just can't get passed this retcon.

He has basically shifted the entire narrative of the entire Oceanverse, changing names which have been established in both WiaB and SG. I will not be surprised if he will have to go back and rework the reworked SG to align the now altered relations.

That's one way of looking at it.

Another way would be you move into a house, realize the basement is full of all kinds of nastiness left over from the old tenant who threw weird sex parties, so you decided to demolish it and build anew.

That is true, the long waiting time for SG and WIAB, honestly I am intrigued with the story, but this change is something I am still trying to make sense with.

That's an awful analogy. He didn't move into that house. HE CREATED IT! From scratch. He build it how he wanted with all that nastiness that HE WANTED! He didn't inherit someone elses house. It's always been his and built exactly like he intended it.
