Check that you're using the same version of renpy as the script_version.txt file says. Failing that, Right click to open the package contents of the newly made mac app, and replace all the files in the autorun folder with the equivalent market ones. It's been a while since I had to do that so a bit of trial and error there.
I'd still say at some point, there will be Grimaldi only or Pedersoli only backstory. Which would make the mod unsustainable, if the two were at each others throats for example (Romeo and Juliet vibes) Who's the old guy Leia plays chess with? I presume the Pedersoli uncle? I can't fully remember where she explains her family.

It was a simple and understandable core, Willy did something "universally" seen as wrong and when he risked being discovered as an immature teenager he ran away. Now we have an "uncle" Giuseppe who at the same time wants to use them as pawns for alliances with the Zane and does not consider them Zane

That's why Willi has to submit to the judgment, whether or not he's in or out, or whether he's bulletproof. The alliances are about moving pawns to make queens. Same principle. Marrying a Grimaldi off into a nothing family, might raise that families prestige, while neutering any threat of Willi reviving the disgraced family name. Same with Pedersoli. Alliances aren't always to the directly powerful, but to manipulate. We'll have to see what alliancs are being planned, but these are considered trades of power, to equalise the situation and tied people into place.
Honestly I don't see the logic, what's the point if they are considered Pedersoli/Grimaldi? Those two families don't exist anymore, they have no influence to give and there's no point in controlling them. The marriage taboo is only useful if they are considered like Zane, but during the chapter Ocean tells us that whoever decided this rule doesn't see them as such. It's yet another case of Ocean has no brakes, he found the trick of the "mafia rules" to replace incest and then thought "how cool it would be if someone with power hated William because of his bological family" thus ruining the consistency... At least I can't see it differently than that.
The families do still exist, just not on that continent - Willi's the only one left 'on the continent'. Their power is broken there, but the families have a wider network. The marriage taboo is about arranged marriages, not about Zane or otherwise. COnsider it more the arranged marriage and them glossing over the tarnishes.
Put like that it makes sense, but it seems a bit too little too late to me. Imagine the Grimaldis gathering all their allies and various families to take revenge by breaking into the Giuseppe headquarters "let's go guys Your great nephew Willy is married to my sister's second cousin"
The use of Giuseppe as a surname is really strange to me, but apparently it is actually a real surname... damn, we have strange surnames
Sadly, I think you should save yourself the trouble. This one isn't salvageable. No mod can fix this shitshow.
