Why so few games with "normal looking" people?

the real reason (besides laziness and daz stock models) is that people who haven't studied classical art rarely have any clue how to make 'realistic' look beautiful. it's Hard and takes years if not decades of drawing and painting, and the required skill level is rare even among artists. essentially the problem is that if you can't draw it beautiful, it means you don't know where the lines should go to. and if you don't know that, it doesn't matter if your 'brush' is a real brush, daz sliders or a camera.
so the two main variations to adress this that we see here are:
1) giving up, and using stock models. which look boring but forgettably beautiful. and
2) trying to stretch the extremely restricted envelope by making your own characters. admirable, but often the result is hideous because that's just the level your artistic technique is. you simply won't see the problem because your brain was never conditioned to see it. it's not something you can just will or hope into existence any more than you can pick up an instrument and play it masterfully. it's not realistic to expect that you could, in fact it's insanely delusional. you need to take years off training classical drawing every day before you can do it.
so when I see people try pushing the envelope, I always love it. I can see what they're trying to do. but it's also painful to see the ignorance in the comments when people don't understand how Good the models in light of my life look.
what can we do about it? obviously not a lot. hire seasoned artists if it's your own game. but as that's not gonna happen we'll just have to try looking past it in both cases. we'll just have to live with the landlady looking like a 23yo model after airbrushing, or the kinda grotesque attempts at making her look 45 but ending up with 23yo body with a 70yo skin.
and in the rare, so rare occasion that we see someone trying and not failing, appreciate that rare gem. you'll see less than 1 out of 100 games like that. so even if it's not your thing, its not like your porn life is ruined. you'll almost never see it again.

A sisters love where I really fancied the sister, the ex girlfriend was a bit vicious. Sadly deceased game.
A different summer where the landlady was a 40+ nice woman.
Acting lessons where I preferred the dark haired girl. Can't remember her name. The blue haired one was a real beauty.
Alexandra, Lexi and Life with Mary.
Another one is My beautiful Sarah where the daughter resembles my almost no 1 favourite: Our fate houses a really beautiful girl though with a pair of tits that are of Swedish format.

Some of it is hilarious!
Unlike IRL butterface threads which is a lottery most of the time, the faces there are almost all really bad.
It can be very easy to change the Daz3D models. For example, there are sliders (settings) for age. You type in "Aging Morphs" into the Daz3D store and you'll see what I mean. With the aging morphs you can literally change nothing else about the character and will make them look different just with those few sliders. Technically, it is possible to make a character look old(er) without those but I would imagine a lot harder.
In a game with a limited number of characters and scope, I can understand the inclination to try and cater to the widest possible audience. I do like I to think I try to have a diverse set of ethnicities and body shapes in my work. Even so, if it's just my own input then my own preferences and subtle biases will seep in regardless. My hope for my own visual novel type games (where applicable) is that scaling will be easy and people can pay me a yet to be determined amount of money to add their own dream characters to the game.
Just saw this. I am a staff member on a different forum and when I am reviewing content: there's obviously no "age verification" for any character who isn't a real human so one of the things I look in female characters to determine age is indeed chest size. I do try to take context into account and when we (on the staff) are unsure we're supposed to ask the creator for their intentions. Often it's a case of "better safe then sorry" with potentially underage looking characters people have created because we don't want to be seen to be allowing underage content (which is against the law) on the forum.
Given the nature of macrophilia, some perfectly innocent childrens cartoons are sometimes posted to the forum because they have a "giantess" or "giant" in them. The creators of those cartoons never intended for them to be used as fapping material so some of those have been allowed to stay on the forum based on the fact they are aim at children. It can definitely be tough make these judgements.
I remember a story from a few years ago about an all girl pop group from Korea (Oh My Girl) being detained at an airport in the USA. Airport staff thought they were sex workers and would not let them in the country. It does appear the reason the girls became popular is because they look so young and the authorities suspected child trafficking.
