I wasn't talking about NTR.
I want to know how tags like romance and harem coincide with a prostitution game.
It's simple. You're master of pleasure house who runs a business and you employ and hire oirans who works for you. You train them and they make money for you while you do your own thing.
And there are heroines who helps you with the main plot and you romance them. Samurai girl, Yandere "fiancee", and your accountant.
Meanwhile, enemies treat you to take everything away from you. You must protect them or lose them :)

So I got the update on patreon already. Nice work in total. The story feels way more thought out, although the intro is a little dragged out. What I dont really understand though is why the dev made the decision to re design every one of the girls with no real improvement compared to the original version. They look different but not really better imo. On top of that this means, that every single scene has to be re designed and it will take ages until we reach the point in the story that was reached in the base game already. Wouldnt it have been easier to make only minor adjustments to the optics and mostly use what you already have, so you can focus more on the story and other gameplay elements instead of re doing the whole rendering process. At the moment the base game is way more fleshed out and offers a lot more content than the refined version, which kinda feels weird to me.

It's the same reason why the story was completely rewritten so it would be like you said
The story feels way more thought out
I already answered your question, which is

Hey, I understand your frustration, but REFINE is much more polished and requires a greater amount of work. It's basically a new improved game. Most game mechanics and code were redone to add options during further development to add extra oirans seamlessly and allow easy fixes if needed. Also, I do most environments myself, and I port/retexture/correct most objects/assets found in our game myself (it's a lot of manual work. And even if there are only a few animations at the moment, I do them myself too which takes extra time. The story is also completely new. Developing everything new takes time, especially at the very start of setting up a new project. Luckily, we passed the most difficult part for further smooth development. We are intent to release monthly updates. Release 1 consists of two chapters. Our goal is to release every new chapter every month, though we also will need to work on the side events and world stuff, but that should give a good idea about the further development of WR RE. I hope this somewhat helps to explain why it took 5-6 months to release REFINE, although it's a very simple answer to a very complex work that's happening behind the scene.
Thank you for playing!
And how do you imagine doing minor "optics" to the scenes from 720p to 900p? It's not like I can turn on some option and turn this
bg_inn_master_bedroom_n_999.png
into this
bg_red_petal_996_n.png

You're implying these are just minor changes and downplaying the significance of new writing and story direction.

that every single scene has to be re designed and it will take ages until we reach the point in the story that was reached in the base game already. Wouldnt it have been easier to make only minor adjustments to the optics...
REFINE story will never reach the old game story, because we're not copying old content, we're creating new content. You played, you should know it. Refine is not following the steps of the original, it walks its own path. What are you saying is very misleading.

I liked this game but remaking it 3 times? so basically there's not advancement to the story for what 1 and a half years ?

Do you count proofread and additional events as rework now? Yes, I did flesh out once to the intro (added 3 new main character classes with different backgrounds, skills and effects, and added new different intros for each) and added a couple of events to characters who lacked character building. Mei was basically an empty shell prior to that with just a couple of garden and hallway events.

And if I remember correctly, I did that because combat overhaul required a new game. It added many changes which would break saves. So, together with that, I improved the starting point so that returning players would have a better time playing, restarting.

The entire project prior to my decision to remake is ~1.5 years old. And I released ~10 content updates, the last one on June 5-6 months ago which was 1hours+ long with new additional mechanics, exploration map, and total combat overhaul.
Some people do not understand that all these extra mechanics in the game needed time to be made and I was doing it mostly alone, also, I wasn't that experienced compared to today. WR is not a pure VN where all I have to do is just add text and show pictures.
Also, I care for the quality, that's why I'm working with an experienced writer so I can make the best game I can now.

So are you remaking the game from the ground up or going to add to the original?

Dont get me wrong mate, I really like your game and I dont wanna downplay the effort you've put into this. Otherwise I wouldnt be one of your patreon supporters. In fact I like it so much that im being a little afraid of it going in a "star citizen" way of development. I have seen way too many indie devs worrying about little things that maybe matter to them but maybe not primarily to the biggest part of their fans. The base game was great for me and I didnt see any reason to redo it, although I understand why you did it. I simply would love to see the game making good progress, as im a huge fan of it and not lose month after month focusing on little details that have barely any impact on the gameplay itself. Thats why I simply asked whether it was necessary to rework every render you already had, as I didnt see anyone complaining about the quality of the previous renders.

And I explained it twice now. It is exactly the focus on details that make WR appealing. Careful picking music to fit the scenes and authentic atmosphere, small details to environments and characters, and many more.
I fully understand I could just load random mods instead of paying thousands to get the , porting, fixing, and doing all sorts of work to create Hana City, throw in some random lights, write random texts, play default stock animation and call it a day, but I will not do that. I want to make a quality game and most people enjoy Wicked Rouge exactly for those reasons. Careful focus on details what makes quality and enjoyable experience. You may not care that every NPC had 2-3 outfit options with blocky mesh issues in the previous version and now instead, in RE it's increased by x20 times with better quality, but some people do notice it and appreciate the work we did.
Collaboration with EvilFuzzy was the best thing that could happen to this project. So, no, we are not going to stagnate the progress. It's a very healthy collaboration. Game systems are finished and IMPROVED (somewhat animated combat sprites, night service customers types increased, variation increased by x7+ times 534 types! sex training visual variety increased by x4 times for each action etc. ) we are already multiple chapters into the future development that just need to be realized within the game and throughout the last 5 months, it was constant progress toward this day, this version, and the next updates which will happen shortly.

Hey everyone!

Finally, it's here! This is a result of collaboration between me and EvilFuzzy, I hope you'll enjoy it. We reworked the intro part of the game giving a taste of what's to come next and I'm 100% sure it's just a starting point of even better things. We tried to balance between the story and gameplay, but there's still much to tell, and there's still lots of things to add. Obviously, that includes a lot of extra spicy scenes, we started very mildly for the start.

What we tried to do was to establish a solid story. In the coming months, we'll work on the main story and we'll be expanding the world with extra content and characters to make the city of Hana more lively. We already have many ideas and working on them. I'll be adding establishment building upgrade events like in the previous work, as well as we will work on the additional characters and potential new oirans. Three is a little bit low right now, but once we introduce additional girls, it should be easier to run a successful business. I'm pretty sure at this point we'll be able to deliver an engaging and entertaining game, and that's thanks to you! Thank you for supporting us through this process.

I hope this will be worth the wait, and it'll be an exciting game to play. I'm really happy I could fulfill my promise to release Wicked Rouge REFINE before Christmas. And I probably will make a short update next week for your enjoyment.

Does this mean the game is out for patrons? I may subscribe if that's the case, thanks!

Trying to sell the gem and the info prompt says it would cost money instead, while actually proceeding through it would give you money as it should. By cancelling the transaction and trying to sell it again the information prompt would display normally though.

A more serious problem is that, going back to the office after completing a transaction would trigger some unknown effect, I hear the SFX of button clicking/event triggering without doing anything and end up in a screen without any UI, only the background art. It is the last day of current main story (if I end day without going to the store I would see the prompt) FYI. I attached a save as well.

Gotta say most people play these things for the story. The graphics ehhhh, sure the 2 rooms do show a definite improvement, went from like 2010 graphics to 2015 graphics, but in the overall enjoyment of the game it's less than a 1% increase.

Edit: Saw the video so I don't want to give off the wrong impression that I'm not pleased with refine. The better UI, engine improvements, smoothness, etc are worth a lot. It was really just that room image that I wasn't excited by. Everything else is massive, especially if you're getting off RPGM, that alone is massive.

Happy to see things being improved but I only want to know how much this is going to effect the amount of content in the game and I don't mean story or gameplay content because honestly those are minor concerns, I mean porn content. This is a porn game after all and that's the focus. Is this going to be another remade from the ground up game that's not going to be worth playing for like another year or so because you have to wait for the new game to catch up to where the old game was?

It already has ~3 hours of content with multiple spicy scenes which are animated at greater care compared to the old version. Plus new training visuals close to 100 variation and the night services.
And we're not catching up with the old WR, it's new content.
