Sorry in advance for the long incoming post XD
Even though they are probably developing quest lines and dialogue based interaction, i still feel like there is one really big thing lacking in that game, just like in many other porn games.
i recently played a bit of illusion games, older and newer ones, and realized how much the various interactions tend to disappear throughout time.
Graphics are evolving, models look great and lighting and animations look better than ever, but the gameplay element? they just seem to go extinct...
Try to picture it that way :
what is a FPS game about? what is a platformer about? what is an action adventure game about?
in an FPS, you use weaponry to shoot your enemies and move on from point A to point B
in a platformer, your character has abilities that help you navigate the 2D or 3D world in a fluid and fun manner
in an action adventure game, you have a mix of game mechanics that help you navigate the world, it could be first person or third person, but what matters is the dose of action and exploration and the fluidity of interaction between your character and the world.
what is a porn game about? ...
If we look at most porn games nowadays, even the "successful" ones, you see these are mostly just a "insert game genre" with a bunch of intercourse animations in it.
you could for instance mod mass effect and add sexual intercourse in it, instead of the softcore content there already is, and it would literally be the best porn game on earth, you could do that with any games, just add a bunch of cool looking sex animation in it and make it the best porn game ever.
now about Wildlife :
i'm gonna say there are two things i really like about it :
The character models are really pretty, i really like the semi realistic look they went for.
Flying with maya feels fun and fluid.
now for the things i dislike :
the map looks like any unreal model pack put together
the level design is very amateurish and doesn't feel right in most spaces (especially the village)
the 3C (character, control, camera) is garbage (except for maya's flying control).
it's very hardware heavy for not much visual outcome (again, characters look great, but that's all there is)
and on top of that, the worst offender, the sexual intercourse, have not been thought out as a gameplay element, they are just here for show, and even if most animations look cool, they are useless, and it doesn't feel like there will be any changes to that in the future, if that was the case, it would already be in a rough state after all that time.
i'm not criticizing only Wildlife, but mostly complaining about a lack of vision from most porn game devs, they all want to create their own little game, and that's great, but at the end of the day, this won't be a good exploration/action/rpg game, it's gonna be a very mediocre one, with porn added to it.
If we use the FPS example again, if that was developed with the same state of mind, you'd have a game where you look at people shooting each others with cool looking animations loop, with the possibility to orbit around, vary the speed and change their positions... doesn't sound very fun to me...
When backers or players would start complaining about the lack of gameplay content, the devs would answer with addition of new character models, new animations, but zero shooting gameplay...
So... it's a bit of a stretch, but i'd love if nintendo themselves made porn games XD
If porn devs had the same state of mind nintendo has, you'd have a porn game where the intercourse is actually interactive, with fun twists to it, like the challenge to not cum too fast, the challenge to please your partner, different mechanics to make it a really appealing moment with different surprises and a constant questioning of "how to achieve something"
I personally which one day to come up with my own game, and the main goal is going to be just that, make it an interesting interactive experience, not just a glorified slideshow
I haven't been posting in the forums yet, but that bit made me want to participate in the conversation.As said, they are working on it. There is one quest in the game right now that you can try out if you want. And there have been bits of lore and story published throughout the years that this game has been in development. I think they may be developing the quest and story bits separately from the sexual content that mostly dominates the Patreon releases. Mostly to keep the Patreon crowd happy.
