Worst is I wish I would just buy this on steam for early access so I could easily install it or download updates. Having to redownload the entire game each time is a nightmare.
That's their business model which is the worst part about this game. You can't buy the final versio (and updates coming with it) and own it.

Very little actually. Their self developed Server Meshing Tech which hyped the internet a couple of months ago, even non star citizen fans (I am one of those "none"), is not even comparable to just making a little game in a premade engine.
Which is also very similar to tech mmorpgs have used last 25+ years. Only difference is persistence from those late 90s techs (UO/AC which would clear virtual-server when players weren't populating area-''mesh''), which of course many other games have also done in last 10 years. This is only big news for them because indeed they used bones of cryengine to build their starengine on, which of course didn't have basic server meshing of any kind afaik because engine was for singleplayer FPS games with very limited multiplayer scope in mind. The big hooplaa about it really showed the ignorance of general gamer rather than revolutionary of the tech itself, which of course is needed for the basic functionality of large scale mmo type of experience.

It's worth noting that New World is on lumberyard which of course originates from the cryengine. Which is also using similar type of implementation.

IIRC if you accumulate $30 or $40 on Patreon you'll receive a Steam key once it's actually available on Steam, though if you aren't happy with the game it's honestly probably best to just move on for a few years. There's no point supporting financially if you're unhappy with the game just to build regret and complain later on. There's no FOMO here, there's no reason not to put this game down and play other stuff in the meantime if progress is too slow.

You didn't read what I wrote. If what you wrote is true, you only get access to the game when and if it releases. Not the updates as as they come as I wrote in my post; and that is the issue here people have.

Sorry not sorry, I call a scam when I see one.
Facts are facts. Plain and simple. You denying them or acting like not seeing them because you like this "game" doesn't change the reality.
How long is this game in development? 7+ years.
How much of it is completed? Probably not even half of it.
How much of a game is there to play? So little to the point it can be hardly called a game.
Is it advertised as an "open world roleplaying game"? Yes.
Were developers taking money from people with the promise of making an "open world adult roleplaying game" all these years? Yes.
Now, the final question. Is this a scam?
Been 7 years, after 3 years I said they scamming their patreons.

Uhm, no, it's not. Star Citizens server meshing is dynamic and happens in real time in-world, that has nothing in common with the slow static server meshing that mmorpgs use that simply organizes player pools and entire servers.

If that was the case, the demonstration wouldn't have created such a buzz in the internet. It's a new tech.

I understood. People want a one time purchase for access to further updates till release, that wasn't my point. First of all, we're all getting the game free here, not a single one of us are paying a dime, so having access to it on Steam won't make a difference. I'm not against owning it on Steam, but complaints wouldn't change even if people did have it on Steam hence me saying it's better to not support it financially now and just forget about it for a while till it actually fully launches, or at least until a considerable amount of progress is made campaign-wise.

If you buy early access games on Steam you see this sort of thing all the time. People buy these games early, progress doesn't go as quick as they want it to, regret on having spent money sets in, then you start seeing the scam posts or the, "it has been (x) amount of time where game" posts. Happened with Sons of the Forest, Divinity Original Sin 2, Baldur's Gate 3, Outlast Trials, etc etc. People just need to hold off and forget the game for a while. Nothing will change by owning the game on Steam when you already get all the updates here completely free. If people are complaining when they're pirating the game, it'll only be worse once they've actually spent money on it.

I'm not downloading the UE4 version again to confirm, but the UE5 image appears to be grainy and of lower quality than what I remember UE4 used to be. I suspect this is temporary until they figure out optimization.
Did anyone else observe the same?

Some people experience a bug with blurry textures, you might be experiencing that. If you're playing the early missions a lot of the assets are still low quality/WIP so that could be it too. If you're experiencing bad image quality in Sandbox it's probably the bug people have been experiencing. Happens to people even rocking beefier GPUs though I personally haven't ran into it yet on a 6700xt. I didn't experience it in UE4 builds either.

"not very far" seems a bit harsh.
these kinds of trailers tell absolutely nothing just look at the devblogs for a game called "dead matter" they made the game look really good in those videos and when you play it its nothing like it.

I believe what i see when someone who doesnt want to sell me something has access to the game and is free to record everything without editing the footage.

I see you never tried SC lol.
im not even interested in it neither in buying the game or bashing it, but the trailer says absolutely nothing its just a render of game assets with better graphics then the actual game the only footage that matters is gameplay i just wanted to point out that posting that kind of trailer is no evidence for anything since its just manufactured hype material for consumers.

Don't want to go too far off topic but Star Citizen has quarterly updates consistently, going over what's in the works and a stream talking to devs every Friday plus they do free fly events which are essentially free to play events where you can play the game for free for a few weeks multiple times throughout each year. Literally nothing is hidden about development behind that game and you can see what's up with it and play it absolutely free. Plus, thanks to the weekly videos you can easily go back and see how it has all progressed over the years. AFAIK they've been consistently doing those weekly videos since 2016, or at least that's when I learned about SC, so as far back as patch 2.5, and they're coming up on patch 3.23(three point twenty three). Patch 2.6 going to patch 3.0 was probably the most significant patch SC has received which drastically changed the game and first implemented the full scale moons/planets that were demonstrated in the Star Engine video.

EDIT: I was curious so I went back and checked, the weekly shows have been going on since 2014.

To be completely frank, if anyone feels info is lacking on SC or not enough gameplay is shown, it's because they're purposely not looking for any. It's way too easy to see how the game has been progressing over the years, they literally show all the good and bad which probably contributes to all the scam claims since they also show off all the ugly amongst the good.

SC has been in dev for a really long time, but to be fair they definitely have the progress to show for it if you compare older builds to what's in-game now.

Wild Life devs actually reminds me of CIG a little with how Steve does the livestreams animating sometimes and how they're pretty consistent with Patreon updates and updating the game in general every 2 or so months. I wish more developers of early access/patreon games would adapt the weekly or bi-weekly format of making videos talking about what they're working on. Gives a lot of insight for their supporters and actually shows they're doing something to ease the doubt a little.
