You need to understand first the differences between a polygon mesh and textures on said mesh, for example Rhino and Minotaur are just retextures of the same mesh possibly with some slight alterations but they are cut from the same cloth so to speak. Same goes with the vast majority of the humans like all the Maya's and the two Shey's etc, all using the same mesh just different textures. They use the same skeletal model, that doesnt mean the same polygon model. Just look at Rhino and Minotaur, does that look like the same model? Or Karra and Zuri, also very different looking for being the same skeleton. Shey and Jadeen also look like completely different characters. The pigman and the goatman also look totally different. Bol and Frank, different person. Maya and Alissa too. If feel like you want to call those the same character ok go ahead but factually you would be wrong.
Nothing wrong with doing this as creating new meshes for each character would be a lot of work not to mention the animation count triples because the different meshes cannot use the same animations as one another hence the reason for most of them sharing the animations because the meshes are all the same so there is no misalignment.
