What.A.Mess.

In a way, this game cracks me up. Each time I play this thing it seems there is a discombobulation of everything that has been done before. Routes, paths, quests...whatever you want to call them are rearranged, redone, reconstituted. It's very unpredictable, which in a way keeps everyone guessing. The problem with that, however, is what's obvious to everyone here--the amount of time spent on recoding and reworking is just insane. One step forward and two steps back. Can someone not say, "ok, this part is a wrap and we're not touching it anymore." Endless tinkering is creating so much frustration it's a wonder any of us continues to hang around.

So why do we hang around? Because at the root of this we have a gem in the making. The best analogy I can come up with is this: At the center is a piece of the best prime rib you've ever eaten. It's been dry rubbed and slowly baked to a mouth-watering tasty treat. But surrounding that treat is two pieces of cheap, stale, white bread. Totally useless, totally beside the point, totally ill-advised. What a waste...

Ok, here' some of the stuff I've ran into in this DP playthrough. And my pardon, but for those of you Patrons testing these releases...are you not reporting all the problems? I have to think you are, but jeez...what jumbled mess.

- Despite being fired, I can still go back to the office and see new scenes with Mina humiliating the MC. After a while the new scenes become repetitive (like the rest of the scenes in this game), but I can still go back over and over.

- The cookie busy started weeks later than ever before this time. Don't know why. I did everything as it came up, but in took a long time to start.

- Despite progressing in cookie experience, the income is stuck at $20. Wasn't like this in the previous release.

- After selling cookies I can't interact with the map unless I advance the time (+1).

- And speaking of +1, that does not mean hours; rather, 4 hour blocks. It should be +1 hour.

- And speaking of four hour blocks...as has been a constant problem in this game, simple little things like picking up a breakfast from Ava lasts 4 hours. Putting suntan oil on Melissa takes four hours, etc, etc.

- Can't progress the Nora quest. Got to disruptor 8 milestone and opened up the first Sunday visit with her at the dojo, but after that--nothing. No longer am presented the option of going to her house to play Tekken. Can't open the second Sunday event with her.

- Books appearing in the bookstore are purchased, but reappear.

- Working at the office is a joke in regard to how much money one makes. Less than $20 for one day's work. If one drives the car and it cost $100+ to drive, then one will be broke in a few days. I could be wrong but I think this is a misguided attempt to push people into a higher Patreon tier so they can travel faster/cheaper. This would be akin to playing Call of Duty and starting with a .22 single-shot rifle and having to pay extra for better guns. Some may do it but it's going to cause a lot of complaining. Is it worth it in the long run? No. Positivity and ease of use will have more $$ benefit.

- Repetition is awful. I can remember when I first came on this site a few years ago and played a game called Foot of the Mountain. I almost left and never came back as I thought maybe all these games were like that one. I popped open the code and saw that some scenes were coded so that one had to play them 30+ times to advance. The exact same CG, the exact same lines, the exact same outcomes in what was termed a Visual Novel. Tell me, what novel have you ever read that had repeating chapters? Chapter 3 the exact same as chapter 2? It's absurd. At the very least, put in a random number generator and have some different lines or a few different CG. The way games are done like this just smashes immersion into a million pieces. Sometimes I wonder if creators that do this are somehow deluded into thinking that they're giving the player all this play time which is a good thing. No, doing the same scene ad infinitum is cheap. It's lazy. It's ugly. I'd rather play for much short amount of time than be stuck on a hamster wheel.

- Text is too small in the dialog box.

---------
UPDATE
---------
- Apparent bug in Nora's quest. DP. This path finally opened after several weeks of nothing. Was able to go to Nora's for first Sunday and lost (allowing Andy to win). Second Sunday went again and lost first round. Second round presented with two red and one blue choice. Either red choice at first appears to lose then the latter part of the scene plays out the same as in the blue choice. Appears that I won and get a +1 Destiny with Nora and +1 Power Score even though I should have lost.

- Bug here: Get a notice that Melissa is working late on her book. Go into room and her thumbnail is in a weird place. Clicking on it brings up the "Event" button, but clicking on the "Event" button freezes the game and I have to load a save. Haven't figured out how to complete this quest, so have to ignore it.

I'll break here, play some more and report on what I find. Feels like I'm writing a book....heh
Well said.....
1st version of the game - I fell in love with the game almost instantly. In that version, grinding wasnt so much a problem and basically everything worked. Lot of small errors, but still playable to the finnish.

Now??? " What.A.Mess. " is exactly what this is. With all the changes whole the time, all the new stuff, coding, variables, parameters, different paths, its gonna be hard for Dev to make the game flawless.
Well, i started from the beginning again, but losing lust to play it....
This time , i think ill wait untill Februari, REAL update they said, no TEST. Platinum supporters is suppose to get it in Januari, so maybe Feb for us the poor ones :)

Finally played the remake.

Spent 2-3 in game months running around, raising my stats and interacting with all the characters. Still have no meaningful way of earning money, which is weird. From past knowledge I know it's supposed to unlock when MC gets canned from his job except nothing happens for me. I start carefully watching the map. Okay, there's Mina sometimes at the bar. Cool, cool. How do I fucking progress? The job is constantly empty without a single character icon, there is literally 0 point of going there.

...or is there? I do yet another sweep. This time I park my ass there and skip time in intervals hoping to see something. Wait. What is this shit. There's a briefcase icon that blends in pretty well with the city map that I can click! Suddenly the game starts moving! Halle-fucking-lujah!

I might be a retard this time, but in my defense when I go to an empty location, I always look at my next destination on the map screen and not at the very bottom. So far the game has been character driven and stat training has been optional, so there has been no need to focus on those icons. I suspect that I wasn't the only idiot wondering wtf to do now.

Anyway, anyone know what the new Mina path is? You can raise her love in the cafe so maybe low power and high love?

Yes, but only one small scene with her by the pool (Dark Path...haven't played the Light Path this release). All other scenes of her have been removed.

NOTE> I updated my earlier post from today.

Took me a bit to figure out the office thing. You hold down on that briefcase and watch the progress bar go left to right. Each time it goes all the way to the right is a day and triggers some action with Mina, Ted, etc. But unless you consume food and coffee, you can't complete one pass of that bar in one day. So you go to work and make a pathetic $20 or so and if you don't use food or coffee, you go back home with no energy.

Why? Why change it? Now it's just more added time for no good rational, logical, meaningful, purposeful, yada... reason. I want to hit something. heh

Ok, I'm over it. Not even going to try the play the Light Path for this release. This thing is so broken Harry Freakin' Potter's wand couldn't fix it.

If you want to see the CG for this release, follow this path.

1. D/L the app shown in this post: https://f95zone.to/threads/winter-warmth-v0-1-9-8-powerplower.132204/post-15728933

2. Copy the hash from this post: https://f95zone.to/threads/winter-warmth-v0-1-9-8-powerplower.132204/post-15729510

3. Open gdre_tools.exe. Go to menu item "RE TOOLS" and then choose "Set Encryption Key" and paste in the key/hash.

4. Under menu item RE TOOLS choose "Recover Project" and choose Winter Warmth.exe. Make sure the .pck file is in the same folder as the exe. Unpack it to the folder of your choosing.

5. Wait for a while. May take 20-30 minutes to unpack everything. You will find the files in the "assets" folder.

Happy New Year boys and girls.

Little tip when you have extracted all the files, when you are on the screen where you convert the import files (ctex) to an png file, instead of clicking 1 file at a time like an madman simply press *z* which takes you at the very bottom of those files then shift click the last file, it will select select all the files for you :) takes a while to covert btw.

So you go to work and make a pathetic $20 or so and if you don't use food or coffee, you go back home with no energy.
And thats not the full story lol - like you said you basically NEED to use food and coffee to make it worthwhile, yet because of the 4 hour increments it means getting the morning melissa or ava breakfast and coffee will take you to 10, then walking to work (because lets be real, driving is unaffordable at 20 buck a day) - will take you to noon. So eating breakfast with your wife = half day at work :ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:. Like did he just not playtest this at all?

We went from a fairly functional, albeit stagnant game to this wreck. Now, it's not just the money mechanics, EVERYTHING seems less stable; I'll get the game regularly crashing when you get a nora text message while walking on map, or get a stranger interaction when walking on map and the gui element never goes away blocking clicks elsewhere.

This was one of my favorites games here on f95zone.

But now, every time I check this thread and see an update I'm like: I don't want to go through all this effort to play this game again for pretty much no advance in the story and to find 1000 different bugs. So, I will wait (possibly forever) for a clean version of this game and with much more content.

How many months does it take on average to update? Looking for more Melissa scene. Btw WuzzyFuzzy thanks for CG information but I dont see 300 render change at Chapter 2 . Are they add scene at chapter 0, Chapter 1 too ?

Yes...But it's confusing as they still have many renders from earlier versions of the game. I don't know if they are going to circle back to those renders and add some of the old scenes back to the game or if they've just been lazy and left them there. The new stuff is scattered here and there, but the most significant new renders are with Mina and the Light path (MC bones her). Not much has been added to the dark path. But that's where the bugs come in....The renders for Ted visiting Melissa are still there, but is it a bug that keeps us from progressing that far or as I mentioned, have they've been left there by mistake? Who knows.
