7 months and counting for new update. This is the unfortunate state of many good games on this site.
Tbh, many games here appear to be developed
without an actual "end-goal" in sight.
They instead devolve into endless projects, endless money-makers (for those that are profitable like WT:S)
Life goes on, and for some a lifetime passes
I certainly see what you mean in other projects, the only other thread I follow on here is the "Something Unlimited" thread and that game has spiraled into unending side projects completely foreign to the original gameplay.
Having said that I don't see anything in WT:S that would indicate that at all. In fact I'd argue we already really have a finished product that's just being expanded upon like DLC that builds upon the original game.
You can play through Hermione's main story completely with no deviation and it feels like a full game. Over time additional women have been unlocked like Luna and Cho to be complete (or near so) in their stories. Tonks is next in line for an update from the sounds of it.
Honestly this dev does some of the things I really appreciate the most from what little experience on this site and the wealth of experience I have in gaming in general. They're open and honest about what they're doing, they complete one thing before shifting to another, they've built a general template/outline of what they're going to do which allows us as users/consumers of their work/art to have proper expectations of what will come next.
I don't think this is a full time job for any of them, I think this is a passion product they make some money from. That's not stable(for most people, this might be popular enough that might have morphed into a decent money maker but that could be gone in a second if goodwill dries up) so I don't fault them for a second for taking their time with the work. In game development in general I'm a firm believe in the old adage "It's done when it's done". Some of my favorite developers have used it and produced amazing works.
So ya, 7 months feels like a long time. If it helps I built a timeline of their "recent" update history to give you manner to build expectations (It's a page or two back; it's a big, ugly excel graphic so hard to miss). Right now I'm "loosely" anticipating a 9 month bake time for the next patch with a mild hope for a surprise October drop (October just feels like a Tonks month). That could be off, there's no hard/firm math behind my guess, but I'll be fine with however long they take because they've done a great job so far and I honestly mostly consider the work done at this point with bonus work added later.
