Okay someone in my Discord said that archivers like WinRAR and 7zip don't preserve Mac and Linux executable permissions, and I used 7zip on these builds because it's faster. So I just recompressed with the onboard Windows tool and replaced the files. Please let me know if this works, and if so, I'll be swapping to that.

Or take a look at this thread, which is dedicated to fixing Ren'py games that have this issue:
https://f95zone.to/threads/permission-fixer-for-mac-and-linux.24233/
Comes with a script you can run to fix it, apparently.

Sorry it took so long. Appreciate your patience.
This time it's my turn to apologize for the long turnaround. Life got in the way and I only just now got around to testing these. Re-downloading the most recent update did NOT work. Neither did the "Fix Ren'py" script posted in the thread above. Chmodding permissions on the contents of the app/Contents/MacOS folder via terminal DID work, however! Yay! Game's running fine now. Thanks for the help!

Massive sigh of relief there. Now I'll know what to tell people if they have this issue again. Thanks for getting back to me and letting me know what worked.

I am disappointed at some of the characters that will only be DLC as that will limit the amount of content they will receive. I was really excited about the hellfire imp but now that she's DLC and will have limited content, not so much.

Also I am concerned at the number of characters. I keep thinking of what happened to Stephen King while writing The Stand. He gave himself writers block for six months because there were just too many characters to keep track of. That's why he wrote in the bomb to reduced the number of characters. In retrospect that may also be what happened to Bluecat with Ecchi Sensei. He never recovered and his game was never finished.

And lastly you have a great story and many likeable characters but the more you add the less content we get for each one or the longer we have to wait for content with our favorites.

Well that's my 2 cents worth. Can't wait for the next release.

Hey, appreciate the input. Even in my book series, the Riftkey Chronicles, there are a ton of characters. Character writing ended up being my specialty, and it's the main topic I teach authors that commission my book coaching services. Funny you should mention Ecchi Sensei, because it might be fairly obvious at this point but Ecchi Sensei was the inspiration for me even getting into making AVNs. I was thinking to myself, "This is really cool, and way more lucrative than I thought, so it's not a waste of time like many of my other hobby projects. I could do this some justice." So I started.

Over the years, the list of characters grew. I decided to split them into Core, DLC, and Secret. I will say that just because characters are categorized as DLC doesn't mean there can't be giveaways or promotions in which you can obtain them for free at some point. But if not for DLC, these characters never would have made it into the game in the first place aside from being brief story components that you never had the option to pursue as LIs or interact with beyond friendship. This is my way of enabling more stories, more interactions, and feeling like each character is accessible in some way. But while working on DLCs, I'm not working on the main game, so I needed a way to monetize them so it makes up for the support I lose by taking longer to make main game updates, if that makes sense. Much as I'd love to be able to clone myself and work on multiple things, we do not yet have the tech for that lol

Is BlueCat completely out of the running now? I remember unsubbing after about a year of them working on the Month 1 with no release update and I have no idea if that ever came out.

As far as I can tell, yes. He didn't release anything for 2 years then did one release and then nothing else. I think it's been a year and a half since that single update, so I say it fair to assume he's not going to work on it anymore.

Funny thing about that... Caoimhe was a name I used in my practice VN when I was still using TyranoBuilder about 5 years ago. The premise was "Where Do People In Comas Go?"

I watched the clip twice last night ... I read that and I still hear "COW-me" in my head. Even remembering "Ahveen" took some thought (forget actually remembering how to spell it without seeing it. I remember the "oi" and a "b", but that's about it).

Aoibheann is prounounced ee-VEEN. Like Eevee, but with an N at the end and the stress is on the second syllable. Similar to the name of a chick I used to work with, which was Aoife (EE-fah).

... maybe I shoulda gone with that lol

"Aoibheann" was a nod to a D&D world that I ran for about 6 years. I based the Elves in Irish culture rather than the typical snobby Brit mannerisms they're given in most iterations, and the character who had this name was the Elven princess who had been brainwashed and used as a weapon, an enemy the party only knew as The Blood Armor before they knocked her helmet off mid-combat and realized who it was.

[DATA REPORT] S2E3 Poll Results

Hey all!

Thought it might be interesting to share some data from that poll I posted asking you what you want us to release next. We have 195 responses so far, so we felt that was a good chunk of data to interpret and adjust our planning to. If you haven't filled it out, we're still taking responses, though with the way the data is growing, we would be very surprised if any of the trends we've identified change.

First, we asked what you'd like us to release next. A staggering 67.7% voted for a wave of Side Story content, with 28.7% choosing another Main Story episode and only 3.6% asking for a full DLC character.

We were VERY surprised about this. This pretty clear feedback, so we're putting DLC a bit lower in our priority list, and Side Story a bit higher.

The next question was, in the event of the eventual Side Story content wave, which characters would you want to see included? One of the interesting points was that Eshtel's Poly route with Chiara was the second highest voted option, while her Mono route was the absolute lowest. As for who placed first, I don't know why I was so surprised about this. I really shouldn't have been.

Wither absolutely destroyed everyone else with a massive 84.6% pick rate. If this was a MOBA, devs would be looking at nerfs. That's a 25% difference between her and the second place pick. I honestly wasn't surprised about Ember, Gillie, Kanako, and Serafina. They're human characters in a monster girl game (Jade and Aoibheann being the clear standouts here). Still, we're dedicating the same special care when crafting their stories as we do with the popular characters. Needless to say Wither is jumping to the top of our list. But we also don't want to neglect the less popular characters, because every character could be someone's favorite. Our approach to this is to let our T5 supporters pick a couple of characters to include, then to take a couple of the more popular characters and at least one of the less popular characters and compose our Side Content wave with that. We're also looking at delivering scenes in batches of around 5 so that way there's a good chunk of content to sink your teeth into.

Okay lastly, we asked which DLC characters people were most looking forward to. Here's where the big surprise is.

Good lord. Seems everyone really liked the preview of our night security officer. For the longest time, Saffryn and Inphyy were neck and neck for the top spot. And I mean that quite literally. Every time a response was submitted, I'd check and they'd each have equal points. But it looks like Saffryn finally pulled ahead ever so slightly followed by Nichiri and co. And that wasn't the only surprise. Venrae and Maika at the very bottom? I thought y'all liked catgirls! Apparently, I was very, very wrong lol.

While DLC is on the back burner at the moment, there is still some planning and writing going on here and there. We have Senia up to 20 planned scenes, and her writing has been started. We also have notes for a lot of other characters and we'll be doing story planning here and there when we gas out on the Main Story and Core character stories.

Anyways, thanks for reading! We've adjusted to your feedback, and in the unlikely event that the trends change, we'll adjust again! Thank you for helping shape World's Crossing Academy!

As of writing this, I am now in Season 2 episode 1. Have to say I have very much enjoyed what I've read so far.

Poor Nook. I'm hoping that there's a way to help her. Maybe the same Elven High Magic that will hopefully eventually help River can help Nook?

Two things really stood out for me though; I loved the scene with Gelka giving the advice that we're not some god playing chess, and the music. In particular, Yuka's in the in between. Is her music a tune from Secret of Mana? Fantastic melancholy tune choice.

Damn, you are GOOD. I don't think anyone has caught that little easter egg yet(or maybe someone has and I've forgotten; it's rare at the very least). To your first point first, the Rebirth Ceremony will be instrumental in helping quite a few members of the cast. Second... that is a piano cover of "Phantom and a Rose" from Secret of Mana, the song that plays in the town of Pandora. I'm a massive Secret of Mana/Secret of Evermore fan, and I love games with great music like the Nier series and the recent FF7 Remake. I'm known to use lots of these tracks in my in the D&D games I run, and I suppose some of that snuck into WCA :p

Yeah I adore all those compositions. A ton of the old square games have scores that are just fantastic really standing up to time and I am constantly search for new covers of those old tunes for my play lists.

I had several saves on my SNES for Secret of mana just so I could quickly load in and listen to specific tunes while doing my homework afterschool in my teen years. Really brings back the nostalgic feels for me. (had that for other games too like FF6/3 and Super Metroid but Secret of Mana stands out)

Nice to know I caught an Easter egg. (y)
