The only way I see this coming out without being a it silly is a new character with a new cast. If not what we get is him dragging around a house full of characters with completed stories on top of the new girls.

You forgot that the announcement said it was only a placeholder for now and that 2 more Updates are comeing before the work on the sequel even starts... so yeah at this point they advertise a sequel in order to keep their Patreons before the project ends... not uncommon and actually smart

Is that really smart? You should I’ll have whatever downtime between this and the new game unless you’re working on both at once(along with your other projects)
It still ends on unsatisfying sequel bait ending. Seems like you announce the sequel before the ending of this game. That way people know what to expect.

...the game is comeing close to an end... there is a chance that Patrons will leave once the game is completed as they won't see anymore content for the game they decided to support.
Once gone it's harder to lure them back... many would probably like to see a demo of the new game before coming back...
But now people that enjoy the game know that a sequel is comeing and they get enough informations about it's content without seeing a demo first... it's more likely that fans stay around and donate while they work on the sequel.
and how would you have ended the game? the ending you are complaining about starts just after the last battle... if Siren had decided to stop the game there it would have been the most underwhelming Update so far... but he couldn't just jump to the endings either as that would have required him to flesh out all routes for all characters and wirte stories for each ending... let alone the artistic part of it.
It might not be the best way to end this part of the game but the way I see it the only alternative he had was postponing the Update until all that stuff was done... which would have hurt him more I suppose

It seemed like the game was coming close to an end, except we don’t confront the main villains and resolve the plot because apparently he wants to do more....so just...do more? Why leave the game at a cliffhanger and “risk patrons not coming back?”
I’m not even sure it’s a good a idea to even do a sequel to a game like this in the first place, and the patrons will come if you make another game(how’d you get the one you have?)
It’s also possible to leave things open for a sequel while giving a real conclusion.
By any chance are you that guy stubbornly ranting at me when I said the game has clunky controls? Because if so, it’s completely useless trying to communicate with you.

My guess on the reason for a sequel instead of extending the existing game is the creator wants a chance for a do-over on some of these game mechanics, without having to worry about re-doing existing content to match. Easiest way to do that is with a fresh game at a natural breakpoint in the plot. (And frankly, I completely support this, the combat and resource management aspects of this game are horrendous and add nothing. It's too much to hope that they'll be removed entirely in the sequel but an overhaul to make them less bad would be very welcome.)
Another reason could be concern about the size getting too big: This is the reason games like DmD are broken up into multiple games, after all, but ZR1 is barely 700 MB and RPGM can handle much larger projects than this before things start to get unwieldy.
Finally, a third reason could be to cull the herd of waifus: I doubt he'll get rid of the incest trio, but I could see wanting to get rid of girls like Natasha or Talia and start fresh with a new batch. You could do this without a new game, though, but I guess it dodges the people asking "where's new content for [favorite character]?"

I think I saw one time on one of the creator's comment that the sequel will have a brand new set of characters meaning the protagonist will also be new
I hope they at least make a cameo in ZR2. They talked about leaving the Island and going to the city, it might be further advanced in the last 2 updates or they could end being somewhere else in ZR2.

That would make sense as a reason to start over with a new game, but the epilogue from this update makes it pretty clear the protagonist intends to go to Crimson City and continue the story, so it'd be very weird if there was a complete replacement of the cast. But not impossible I guess.
