Otherwise great start.
Though, just because someone is an empath, doesn't qualify them as counselor. So it would have been nice to have a line somewhere explaining Kara's qualifications (other than her looks and skills in bed).

Who is to say that isn't her qualification? It can get lonely in space.
In all seriousness though, it will be explained a bit more in the next episode, she hasn't done any counseling yet.
As for middle name, you couldn't because it's not an option- sorry.
