People need to chill. There are games on this site that have literally stolen copyrighted videos and images (every real porn game here) and who’s gonna act like most games here aren’t just copying the same old story and tropes used a hundred times over. Did he copy some random mobile game’s text? Maybe, but guess what, even under American copyright laws the worst he’s done by adding additional content and new images is created an adult parody. Still protected. There is no risk of contaminating the originals target audience and there is sufficient new material to make the claim it is a new work anyway. Copyright is hard to enforce at the best of times and this is more than different enough from just what I’ve seen to say people need to chill out. Should he give credit to the original? Maybe, but does he have to? No. I haven’t even played it yet, and I never played the random mobile game it’s supposed to have copied. But who cares?
Edit: I don’t really understand getting offended on someone else’s behalf. If the creator of the other game wants something done let him do it. He can waste the time and money going to court. Until then, this is a pirate site…

I do. If someone copy-pasted Grandma's House and claimed it was their original creation then tried to make money off of it, I'd be pretty fucking pissed. There's no gray area here, this is some scummy shit.

I agree, maybe it’s scummy. And if that happened to you, I’d hope you’d fight it. But there are other games that have technically violated actual laws, by using real porn for example. And other games that have stripped dialog too (I won’t name names but at least one started as a word for word copy of another game just in Daz from HS). And on that note: any game using Honey Select (or its fellow engines) is technically violating its use as well. Its why HS games can’t be sold on steam. I’m not saying the guy didn’t do anything wrong at all. Just that it’s hard to say he violated any laws or anything and should have his content taken down. And unless the original games creator comes then there isn’t anything that really can be done, and even then, it is a legal grey area. He can claim adult parody since the original doesn’t have adult scenes. Plus, dialog is so easy to change in Ren’py, he can literally fix it before the next update and the game would not even need to require a restart…

Dude, he literally copy-pasted the entire script as is and said it was his. Man didn't even bother proofreading his stolen script. It's not about the law, it's about not being a scumbag.

Agreed man, it’s kinda scummy… but let’s not split hairs here. Has every dev on this site bought all their assets for Daz fairly? There’s a whole section of asset downloads. And every illusion game is technically stealing every time they use that program. I’m not saying this guy didn’t do something scummy. I’m just saying there’s plenty of mud to go around. He copied the script, seemingly by hand since there are all these errors. And that is kinda shitty. But so is stealing porn images to make the “art” for a real porn game. Or downloading assets that haven’t been paid for and using them in a game. The dev should give credit to the original, but he doesn’t have to. The dev should go in and change the dialog. But he doesn’t have to… and people getting worked up about it isn’t going to do anything. Unless F95 is going to take down every real porn game, every Illusion based game, and require devs to provide receipts for the assets in Daz… well, they can’t in all fairness take down one that stole the easiest thing to change in a Ren’py game, dialog.

No, I would be pissed and do something about it. But if someone took my book, took out the dialog, changed the names and title, and made a graphic novel version then I’d still be pissed and fight for it, but I would probably lose because dialog itself can’t be copyrighted, only the specific expressions of it. He did create new images and added sex scenes which I imagine have their own dialog, if I’m not mistaken, so he can claim fair-use adult parody.
I said it probably isn’t right. And if the other games creator shows up I hope he asks the guy to change the dialog or give him credit. There are game here though that have violated actual laws. That have ripped off other IPs beat-for-beat and even used their character’s names and likenesses… I’m not defending any one person specifically here. But if this gets taken down it could be a slippery slope. Why not take down all those real porn games that use copyrighted material? Or the parody games that copy names, character looks, and locations and follow the story beat-for-beat and only add in sex… it’s a gray area. As much as we not want it to be. It is. How many games call themselves Big Brother (add new word to distinguish itself)… even using the same characters and plot lines just in space or something… When Illusion first released Honey Select they tried to go after content creators using their stuff. Because they didn’t give blanket consent like Daz does. The best they did was get Steam to agree not to let HS based games be sold on the platform. And now some HS games are the highest performing ones on the site.
Fairness is hard to enforce. Is it morally right? Maybe not, is it legal? Yeah, more than some other stuff on here. What should be done? From F95… nothing can really be done. From the creator of the original if he cares… he can come here and stake his claim and ask this guy to change it or credit him… what can anyone else do? That’s on each of us. Play it if it doesn’t bother you, don’t play it if it does. And yeah, mention it in the thread if you want. But there really isn’t much else we can do.

In copyright situations, it comes down to how much the copyright owner has lost in income or if their public integrity has suffered. It's up to the owner to decide to go after the "plagiarist," but if the cost of doing that outweighs the ability to recover lost income is the main factor. One thing most people don't realize is you can win a case, and if you are entitled to compensation, collecting it is a whole nother thing entirely. OJ, "the killer" Simpson, hasn't paid the Goldmans for killing their daughter yet.
Companies like Daz know the cost-benefit ratio is on their side. Yeah, some of their assets are stolen, but that is the cost of advertising their product. Daz is big because we see its products everywhere. And if the profit margin drops, you can bet they have a strategy for that. That's what free refills are at fast food places are, advertising.

So I can’t say, and it seems like he changed the images, the names, and added events (sex scenes)… I’ve seen a few images of one scene that seems to be a pretty clear copy, but is there other scenes that aren’t? What percent of the script is a copy and what isn’t? Honestly… has anyone gone in with both scripts side by side and checked? Did he only copy the court room scene, maybe he did that since he didn’t know anything about court law and wanted to sound better than he could write. Maybe he should have copied a scene from an episode of Law and Order instead…

I’ve said several times it’s might be wrong. And there were side-by-sides of one scene. The courtroom scene… but there are other scenes too. If those other scenes are copy pasted then it’s even worse, but if he only copied a single scene then it was dumb and he needs to change it or credit the original. We agree about that. That’s all. I have zero dogs in this fight. I think he should change it. It was either lazy, if he only copied a single scene, or worse if he copied more. Either way he fucked up. We don’t disagree in principle.
