I guess it also depends on how deep the story goes.
You can give a lot of information with these things, quick recognition of person, colors can help denote attitudes, give character background. However, is it worth it? Who knows?
Even further should the text box itself change dependent on the person? A military camo colored background? Should it go further and be specified to the person's exact place in the organization? Camo with a slight white and red theme/red cross/Rod of Asclepius for a medic within the army?
I've done a little bit of that on the new boxes *points up*. So at a glance the player can see their rank, ship/organisation, etc and I've changed the backgrounds dependant upon mil, civ, news or VR. I'm mindful not to clutter it up too much but I am starting to wonder if its worth adding some skill badges to some of the others than just the marines.View attachment 404996

In my opinion, no. (I say this without knowing what other examples do you have in mind). I see the "marines" badge more like an indication of which military "branch" do they belong to rather than a skill. Though there are skills obviously associated with it.starting to wonder if its worth adding some skill badges to some of the others than just the marines.

Everyone has more or less different skillsets, so it could end up with so large a list of badges that players would forget what each of them indicate.Adding skills might be interesting but it will clutter fast if you don't design the box well. An empty area above their heads to shove all skills might work to shove them all?
