That's a question I can't answer with a simple yes or no unfortunately.

F/M will be optional for the most part, but there will be or rather there need to be scenes that have F/M content. That said those scenes won't necessarily be with Beth or Eva.
So let me put it this way, if you prefer to have Beth as a "lesbian" then she will be a lesbian, same goes for Eva ofc.

At the same time, well kind of at least. The main focus is and always will be on Beth, the Eva path is basically nothing more than a sidestory. So if I feel like there's no time to render something for that path, then I won't do it.

KinneyX23 Completely understandable. But here is the thing, because of the nature of your job, I don't think you need to, or should, promise deadlines. For any potential new players, I think a full disclaimer might be worthy on Patron page (and OP in this thread, too) to make it clear that your job precludes you from being able to set any firm deadlines. Even with that disclaimer, I would still gladly donate, if I had enough money for that (unfortunately, I have already committed so much to other games on Patreon :().

Curious, while I know money isn't your goal, you mentioned that all money received doesn't even cover the cost, I assume, of the game development. I'm not very familiar with the financial side of game development but it sounds like there is regular costs to that. What that might be, if any? Or is it recouping the cost of software, models, et cetera that were bought? If you are comfortable in discussing this, that is.

Right now it's just an idea to suspend the page, but it's the best one I got so far. I thought about a disclaimer as well, but even if I add one to the page, I'd still feel like I'm one of the devs who just milk their Patrons. I know that most of you think that it's not that big of deal, if I still do stuff and deliver the updates, but I don't feel comfortable with the situation as it is right now.

As for the second thing. It's actually a bit of everything tbh. I had to buy a lot of assets to create IR and AbF, which was quite expensive, then I had to buy proper hardware to actually be able to render with Iray, since I used AMD graphics cards before. Then you have to add all the assets that came after the initial batch of stuff that I already bought. And the cost for the software used, like Photoshop for example. All in all developing a game is neither simple nor inexpensive (quite the opposite), unless ofc you decide to be a pirate, which I didn't. The models aren't a big issue btw, because most of them are either made by me or someone I know, they are still quite costly though. Eva for example without any clothing cost more than $300, young Beth's room in the IR Prologue cost over $200, even the VW Beetle Beth has had a cost of nearly $100 (because I combined two different assets), just to give you an idea of how much money was already spend on IR. And then you have to add clothing, environments, poses and other stuff that as well.

KinneyX23 I saw your patreon post. Honestly I don't think you need to put the patreon on hold. If you are working on it a decent percentage of your time it's fine. I feel patreon is to support work not necessarily to buy a product so you shouldn't feel bad about it... Then again I do understand where u are coming from, I broke myself finishing DA so it wouldnt go into 4 months for the last update. Sometimes you feel you didnt do enough that month or whatever and you feel you are cheating people. But then think to yourself. Are you doing work a decent percentage of the time? Have you been buying assets? Is that answer yes? Then, that money people have generously been giving you is exactly what they want to achieve. To help you out. If you suspend it they can't do that. I don't think any sane person is going to accuse you of milking.

I don't pledge you to play the game. I pledge you to help you do what you are doing. If you suspend it I can no longer do that.

I really appreciate you saying that Philly and I agree with everything you said. I know that I'm not milking my patrons, but yet I can't shake the feeling that I can do more even if that's next to impossible given the nature of my job. My main issue with all that is that it's not getting better, the opposite in fact. Very soon I might have even less time to actually work on IR and AbF, because I got a promotion, that will include a higher salary sure, but also requires more time.

Anyway, I haven't decided to actually suspend it, I just paused it for now and we'll see what happens.Maybe I'm able to find an insane human being who just wants to help me work on IR without having the option (anytime soon that is) to actually get paid. :D

If that is the case perhaps a pay per update would be more suitable for you? I feel that works well if u feel you cant devote a good deal of time to a project but are still working on it. That would also quell any conscious bits you have about taking money from individuals. You can switch to it but you need to go through patreons support to do it, but think hard about it because i believe once you do, that is it. You're locked in.

Actually, I wouldn't mind that approach. I can't do more subscriptions but having each update to pay for might be... less of an issue for me financially, if they are not automatically charged. That way, I can figure out if I have money left over at the end of month. But I don't know how that would work on Patreon. Does it even support that method? (EDIT: Nevermind, just read your post more. It DOES support that, after all. xD sorry)

That is why I prefer one-time payment method for my mainstream games on, for example, Steam and GOG.com. I feel that profileration of subscription model is becoming a problem more than a solution and it has me very concerned about the future. Subscription model has already been used in music and film/TV industries, now it has started to get into mainstream gaming. With all of the bills we have with housing, utilities, insurance, so on, and not to mention the generally stagnant wage growth for Americans (unsure about other developed countries), I have to wonder how sustainable the growth of subscription model will be in the long-run? I find it highly questionable in terms of sustainability, at least from where I stand.

To be fair, IR isn't allowed on Patreon anyway, so if you only want IR then I suggest itch.io ;)

As for the page, well we'll see what I'm gonna do, because quite honestly I don't know yet. Maybe I'm gonna change to the per update model, I'm gonna suspend the campaign or keep going as it is, but that's a decision I just don't wanna rush. I just felt that I have to at the very least pause the billing for now, since I can't deliver any update this or next month.

Let me start off by saying, thank you to everyone who reached out to me or posted here in the thread saying that you think I'm making a mistake by suspending the page. I really appreciated that. The good news is that I decided to not do it, but I'm going to make some changes for the future.

The first part of the post regards the charging and the Patreon page in general, the second part is technically for AbF though.

Progress is slow, you're right there.
But I wouldn't say there was no progress, I mean IR is now more than 10 times as big as it used to be. ;) Granted I started with a crappy 40 image demo version. As for the version number, you have to keep in mind that I changed the numbering. The previous version was 0.065, so there has been quite a lot that changed.

As for the reworks, well guilty as charged unfortunately. One was because of poor renders and the other was because of massive code changes, that were necessary in order to continue. I really hope though, that I don't have to make you guys start over again. There is going to be another "rework" though, but that one is only affecting renders and not the story. You probably saw that I'm going to change the Charlie model, that's a change that will not happen for quite some time though, at least not with the older scenes, because redoing them would require more time than I currently have, which in turn means that I'd have to stop working on the update. And yes I'm working on an update. ;)

Just a little sneak peak:

You don't have permission to view the spoiler content. Log in or register now.

There is a lot more coming and the update will also add a scene that quite a lot of you have been waiting for. Not gonna say what it is just yet though.
