- J&M relationship was a secret only Derek knew. Now mc knows, too, but it is still a secret. It's difficult to show a secret relationship in the open.
- Josy's and Maya's sexual orientation is a secret except for Derek (and Maya's dad) and now mc. Maya herself was unsure because she was only with one girl (Josy) before she met mc. Now with mc in their relationship it is clear that both are rather bisexual than lesbian. We don't know if Josy and Maya are attracted by other girls besides each other. Their romantic and sexual relationship evolved out of (probably years of) friendship. Since they keep their lesbian side secret, they cannot engage in lesbian actions in public unless it is in a socially acceptable context like the dildo game in e.4.
- Their relationship was at zero point when Josy arrived at B&R and actually looked rather for mc than Maya, while mc and Maya that evening had just completed the first sexual tasks for scavenger hunt together. This was Hell Week Wednesday night (end of ep.3). Friday night (ep.4) they had the great decision if to stay just friends or be more than friends. Josy's dad visited B&R on Saturday night, only 3 days after Josy arrived.
- Supporting Josy in a potential struggle with her dad is difficult for Maya if their relationship is secret. MC is more neutral and in case that Josy's dad would try to take her back home, mc could intervene and fight for Josy if necessary. He is the better choice based on circumstances.

Episode 5 has several (small) events for the J&M-path.

I think the problem with it being forced is the main issue with the whole story line. I did a whole playthrough actively avoiding Maya and Josy and picking choices that make you lose points with them but they still somehow fall in love with the MC and have their Whole drama regardless of what you do.

This is the episode all over though. Not to the same degree but you can be full DIK and avoid Bella, have her actively dislike you because of various behaviours but one talk with Cathy and she's asking you to call her Bella and letting you borrow her car/sleep on her couch. You can piss Sage off, avoid her and then suddenly you're friends. You can reject Maya/Josy but they're still in love with you.

This episode was a filter to get everyone on a similar track. DPC was cleaning house and making it easier to write. Which I understand but it's just creating inconsistencies.

Whilst I can totally understand DPC wanting to have branches and to make choices have consequences by locking out certain LIs early on, at the end of the day they're just one man and for a game of this scale, having so many branches and variations to the story was probably a mistake. It's like with A Wife and Mother; it's a visually good game with a fairly good story, but suffers from having to deal with too many branches and side characters.

So, yeah, I agree that this episode did make it seem they were getting the story back on to a single track to make it easier going forward, but I guess they were also betting on there not being too many people who have turned down Bella because, I mean, just look at her...

Yeah I agree with you it just seems like the RP system was put in because it is a VN and halfway into development the dev just forgot it exists in order to have dramatic moments in his game.

Yes and this is quite a shame. Unfortunately, it's very reasonable from DPC's perspective. And so called new season is a good excuse for reduction to pretty much one baseline. Too much work for a proper branching while only dedicated enough players will check different outcomes and appriciate it. He's aiming for a mass appeal, not to some fans (have no clue what his highest patrons wants and value though).

Not to mention his focus on animation (extremely time-consuming) and clear desire to throw as much drama as possible which is require certain combination of circumstances and badly fits with player's possibility to avoid some potential rough edges in the first place was it necessary to fuck Sage exactly on Tybalt's bed on top of all?

imo what we've got here is the limit of "the best of both worlds": a good/competent storyline with branching/complexities from choices AND good animations/rendering (for a one man team anyway)

so unless DPC is wiling to offload some of these workload to others, OR he's ok with releasing smaller episodes with lesser renders/shorter stories, we can't really expect anything more than this without bloating up the dev time even more

You are correct Sir, I had my trivia mixed up lol. The weird thought process I had going was the hand jive dance EJ was trying to teach Kiki Dee in the music vid was from the 50's, but saw a resurgence with Grease. EJ wasn't involved with that sound track directly, but several members of Toto were, who did work with him. I also thought I made that comment back in WTHI thread.

You used to get variations on stuff (unless that is the 50% 100% stuff?). I actually really miss the DIK/CHICK variations. Episode 1-3 used to change what you say based on your affinity. Same choice but your affinity changed the context and the response.

Happened all the time, a CHICK could compliment girls sincerely and get positive reputation points. A DIK would say something crude and lose them. Same choice in-game but the RP system changed the outcome... AFAIK this was totally abandoned this episode. Even full DIK characters were channelling their inner WMV protagonist and saying exactly the right honeyed words to get every woman to fall for you like you're Casanova with a PhD in Cognitive behavioural therapy.

Yep another good example was staying with Sage at the end of Ep3. If you were a Chick and you went in Quinn's room or tuck the blanket over Heather it was a negative. If you were a DIK it turned both into a positive.

If I ever make my own game I'm going to just go "Fuck you, fuck off, and go fuck yourself! My story, if you don't like it go somewhere else." I watched BB get ruined because no one liked Eric and the developer caved to peer pressure. Why do people do that?

As far as NTR goes most people don't even know what qualifies and what doesn't. Bunch off moronic, simple minded cry babies who all want to be some Super Cock, all games are harems, no slow burns (they want it all now), the girl falls over with her legs in the air....... Fucking games like that are boring as all hell. I want a challenge, I want to work for it, and I want someone else to come in and test me and make me earn it. Makes it actually feel like I earned and accomplished something.

Ironically, even when MC is calling one of them near the end of ep5 and video-call is starting turns out that they moved beds together beforehand because "were waiting for you". Yes, M/J relationship looks sorta like bs at this point, but I'm curious why you catiously pointed out that in particular.

Writing simply far from being brilliant here overall but not necessarily due to DPC's incompetence, personally I consider him as a very capable writer but due to the fact that the game is trying to entertain too much, unfortunately. It also is trying to create an illusion that MC is not the fucking center of the universe and so much is out of his control yet in fact it's kinda the opposite. As I said at first ep5 impressions, my biggest gripe was about Tommy/Rusty/whole DIK bunch being way too passive and it was too obvious. The whole picture started to falling apart and M/J situation is just a cherry on top. Said that, it's just an episode and I hope trend will turn around somehow.

I don’t 100% agree with this take, we met Josy and Maya at a difficult time in their relationship. They are on the verge of breaking up partly because of distance and partly due to Maya‘s familial challenges. It’s established from both early on that they are in a relationship and it’s causing them to feel conflicted about MC.

We gather they’ve had feelings for each other when they fuck at the lake. And I think this all comes together well. As the MC we don’t spend a lot of time with them together. Think about it, we find out the turn, have a hissy fit and storm out. The two aren’t really seen by The MC together until the party at which point you either get the poly relation ship or they make out with each other. In the poly relationship they are plotting with MC.

In episode 5 you are either together with them or you aren’t. If you aren’t you see them hanging out and partying together, dancing having fun. Your right Josy’s dad should have been changed slightly on this path, Josy asking Maya first and then MC ‘as a friend’. After this they are separate again and beyond that we don’t see them.

On the poly route, we dance with them and get them booze. Maya storming off makes sense as she is jealous and heartbroken about her own dad. Again they are separated. IMO the correct path her is to go with Maya, as you Josy discovers you and you can tell her what happened, as I understand you can’t do the same with Maya(?). You then have the phone call and the picnic. Yes they aren’t all over each other but this is also not a new relationship. How many of the other characters have we seen being intimate with their significant others?





I do find it ridiculous when people get all sensitive about avoidable NTR. (And any NTR really). To be upset about Maya and Josy, two characters who are in a relationship, kissing is bizarre. Ultimately, you should be making the choices that lead to the path you want. You can’t have everyone and a harem ending is certainly not going to happen.

That leaves 3 choices;

MC cheats on the girl you have chosen to go after. He’s a cunt and you’re treating the girl you fucked around on Badly.

MC is loyal to one but you think all the others should be single and miserable.

You try to create happy endings, by setting the characters up.

Quick thoughts about NTR.

1. If you/ the MC don’t like a character she can’t NTR you. You/ MC needs a relationship or at least to have romantic feelings towards them.

2. Someone in an existing relationship can’t NTR you/ MC. In other words if Burke Fucks Jade he’s still the cuckold, if their relationship works out, Burke is still the cuck.

3. If you like a character, for example I like Bella, the MC can only be ‘cucked’ on the path where you go for her. With the exception of her Husband coming back that’s unlikely. If you ignore her and don’t put any effort in to romancing her you and the MC can’t be cucked.

4. If you are doing a second/ third play through and taking different paths to unlock everything then the MC can’t be cucked because point 3 applies.

5. If you look and point 4 and say yeah but I like character x. Let me remind you she is fucking the MC, not you. You’re already being cucked by the MC. If you say no me and MC are one and the same then the MCs relationship to the person is what counts and if he doesn’t care about them he can’t be cucked aNd neither can you

I tried do a Josey only and that's ignoring Maya all the way,even getting negative points with her and still game make's you make out with her,that's annoying.Tried Dik,Chick path only and they suck.Even did walk through NOT banging any Hot(damm that was hard ).So for me to best have fun and enjoy the game I went for Derek's way of thinking Just there for the pussy).
