r3.5 Progress Report #14 - MAR 27 @ 9:20 UTC (Task List)
Alright, well that took way too long... but Scene 4 of 5 DONE! Yay!

Holy crap that scene had so many damn parts to it with new models and moving backgrounds and scene flips. Just took forever to fill out all the damn poses with 4-5 Mortys on the screen at a time, but got it done!

One last task to do tonight and that is edit all the video I've captured so far (for scene 1-4), then I can batch them overnight. Then most likely no work on the project at all tomorrow, then back to it on Monday.

I'm feeling at lot more confident in hitting a March 29/30 release date now (so that is now back on the main post). Although, I still haven't play tested pretty much any of it (outside of some spot checks). And I have a sinking feeling that with so many new parts, stuff is gonna be breaking right and left on me... Anyhow, that is a problem for future me to worry about.

Without more info, not much I can do. What device model, what version of android, any error messages?

As a heads up I do very limited testing for Android, mostly I check that it works in emulation and on an S6 and S10. It's just an extra click to make it (and an extra hour to upload it) so I include it, but I honestly don't prioritize it. It works for most people so I don't spend a lot of time on it, but if I can help I will.

Well, unfortunately that isn't enough information for me to troubleshoot this issue. Without an actual error message, I'm not even sure where I should start looking.

I did put together a Galaxy Xcover Pro VM running Android 11, and it installs and plays without issue.

Again, there isn't much I can tweak for android. Renpy does all the magic behind the scenes and I have very little input on it. There are several other threads dedicated to renpy android issues, you might be able to find a solution in some of those.

(TLDR Almost done, last scene in progress! And, extra bonus scene finished for day 37!)

Inching ever closer to completion. I was pretty busy yesterday, but did find a small bit of time to devote to the game, a short 12 hours, so hardly anything, really...

Anyhow, you might have read that and though, holy shit it must be done, otherwise what else could you possibly have wasted 12hrs of development time on?!... Sadly, no that was just lots of the other stuff I needed to get out of the way. Mainly, all the video capture/editing/exporting is finished, first pass QC on scenes 1-4 is completed (they at least play without error, if not dialog issues), and I fleshed out the rest of an extra content scene I'm squeezing in at the start of day 37. I wasn't sure I was going to be able to complete it, but the power of update compelled me enough to make that last push (and that's what I spent a lot of yesterday on)!

So, today. It's scene 5 time (yes, the final scene). I expect it to take roughly 10hrs, which means, the game should to be content complete today (barring any major issue). Then I'll go right into testing, and final passes QC, and all that good stuff I need to do for publication. Which means... yes, that is right, I'm on track for a release today (well, the 29th UTC time, but still the 28th for me).

Next update will be to report when scene 5 is done, then I'll have a better idea/window of the release time.

Anyhow, stay awesome everyone!

i must say, i really like this task list. it's pretty fun to see the tasks in detail and see what need to be done as well as what's been completed.
got a top tier attitude, works hard, don't even want money and find little way to make things better like this. if only everyone was like you the world wouldn't be so shit haha

Can I expect android version when the update will be available?
Publish order will work like this:
  • Patch only first (because it will be super small, I've got the update down to around 70~mb!)
  • Then PC/Linux on Mega (because it is the fastest for me to upload to)
  • Then Mac (actually uploading at the same time, because it builds at the same step as the windows/linux version)
  • Then Android (usually building while I'm uploading as it is an extra step and takes the longest).
    • Some very minor quick testing (can I install on my android device, does it launch, skip through all current content without errors)
    • And upload.
So, yes, android will go up along with the rest of them, but sadly it is last in line due to the nature of how it builds. It usually goes live about an hour or so after the PC/Linux build goes up (If I don't have any errors with it).

Oh, is this an update post that you see? Why yes, yes it is. This is the alpha complete post wut-wut! That means all content is now in the game! WOOOOO!

Holy crap, scene 5 took forever. Stupid past me left half the blinks unfinished so I had to waste a bunch of extra time on them, I hate my past self so much, that person's such a jerk... But I guess they did do most of the work on the game... technically all of it, since present me writing it this post about it.... Also LOTS of dialog stuff in scene 5 took quiet a while to put in. I remembered halfway through about a major story rework I wanted to do with the scene, but, well I was half way done, so that wasn't going to happen (also, also, it treads into the unknown story territory, so I'm more hesitant about it (possibly in the future though when we know more of the citadel story arc).

ANYHOW...

What you really care about. What's next? When can I play that sweet, sweet, r3.5 renpy version?!?

Next up is testing. I'm going to make sure that the scene I just finished putting together actually works. Then once that is done, it's time for a playthrough of the whole update to make sure everything looks good (this usually requires an absolute shit ton of tweaking in typos and character poses).

This is not a short process, and tends to take between 1-2 hours per scene to do. So, I expect another 6-8hrs ahead of me here play testing. But, I still intend to keep on it tonight (yes I know it's tomorrow for some people, but I can't help you in the future, I'm only in the past...). But I'm gonna guess realistically, publish will be early~ish tomorrow (my time, and late UTC time), or stupid late tonight my time, not sure yet.

Thanks for sticking with, we are almost there!
