Do you guys know what happend to the devs? They've gone quiet since this game was released in 2014. There's no more games after this one.

Noone knows for sure, heard hes dead or blind. Both to take with a grain of salt though.
There's a spriritual successor in the works though, already for 5 years and we know nothing about the progess.

Edit: Okay seems like the dev has some trouble with funding the game. And as a reason being busy with his day job theres not much progess to be made.

When I try to open the "game_unpacked.exe" it just gives me a gibberish notice message and closes.

As previously mentioned, game only runs in a Japanese language emulator. Like Locale Emulator. File link is in this thread somewhere. Changes to your OS to use Jap Locale doesnt work. Use emulator.

I am able to open the game and go to the main screen, but I cant seem to go further.

I am on linux. Japanese text seems to do fine. But still getting some text error. I have set japanese language on Lutris.

Yeaaa.... don't see that happening anytime soon unless miracles still happen 'cause the game released almost 9 yrs ago.

No, the dev simply made one of the most successfull indie H games of all time and disappeared into the void in 2014ish.
