Hey man, tastes vary. You don't like the game play something else. God knows you literally have hundreds from which to choose.Man, I've just got to come out and say this:
Whenever I see a "what is this girl to you?" question I instantly want to close the fucking game.
It makes the dialogue SO fucking awkward. "How are you, ward?" has never been said by anyone ever and with good reason.
I see this question more and more in incest games, and again this just makes me feel like I'm watching a porno where the girl says: I love you, BIG BROTHER or:Fuck me DADDYYYY or some shit like that. Takes away the whole story.
If for any reason your MG can't call your MC Dad, don't MAKE me choose another shitty alternative. Make her address me by my first name or something like that, so if I want the dad fetish thing, I can just download a patch or something.
I don't know, I think it's a valid frustration. I personally enjoy APAT, but I would be a liar if the whole naming/relationship convention wasn't tiresome and frustrating. It absolutely makes the writing awkward when you can't be explicit with a relationship because you need to skirt rules. While it may be effective, it hurts the writing process because you have to keep the writing open for everything. I wish more games would avoid the whole incest undercurrent because I think there's a wealth of good scandalous subject matters that could be used that would be allowed by the rules. It would open the writing process up for the developers and avoid the stupid "Landlady" trope that kills immersion for me.Hey man, tastes vary. You don't like the game play something else. There is a reason for the Devs doing that. Most of them have SubscribeStar, Patreon, or some such account that they post all of their games to. These sites have come down hard on what they will allow on their sites now. Anything with an incest theme will get the Devs account ban. So that is why the Devs go to such great lengths to make and word their games the way they do. Remember that F95 is a pirate site and have much different rules. I know that it is a pain in the ass. And if you want to avoid the incest part of the games, than I would suggest avoiding all the games that have that tag.I don't know, I think it's a valid frustration. I think everyone understands why this setup exists, that doesn't change the fact that it gets tiresome. I'm not blaming the devs, they have to do what they have to do, and again I like APAT, but the tradeoff comes in the writing. In order for the game to avoid being busted, and still structurally work, the writing needs to keep things as generic as possible in regards to the nature of relationships. There is a reason for the Devs doing that. For me, I like games like APAT not because of the nature of the relationship, but because these are the rare games that attempt to tell a story. Yes, I do like some scandal in my fantasy, but I could do without the incest. But, it's VERY hard to find well written games with relationships that don't include incestual undertones. Games like BADIK and Jessica O'neil's Hard News are very rare, so to fill the gap I turn to games like APAT. And for the most part it's all good, but I think we can all admit that the story would be stronger if the nature of the relationship could be explicitly acknowledged. The fact that it can't be is frustrating. Knowing that these games can never explicitly state their relationships makes me wish that more games would write relationships that were on the up-and-up. The lewd game market is full of incest games, and I'm not criticizing that, I just wish some of those games (and their talented writers) would make more games without incestual undertones. But until they do, the only option is to keep playing these games and deal with the limitations.

Amazing game, by the way.

Wouldn't what I said be a valid alternative? This isn't the wild west of adult games anymore, people can very easily download incest mods, as I have for hundreds of the games that I have played. There is a reason for the Devs doing that. To be fair, Avalon was hardly an incest game, as there was no option to make Byron blood related to Avalon. You could Make Leah his actual sister, but there was such little content with her, it hardly mattered. I suppose the alternate ending was incest, and that was great. Also, incest is my favourite fetish, hence me being a fan of Avalon and LockHeart in general.
Loved the alternate Leah ending...too bad it wasn't canon, really would have liked Leah agreeing to Avalon's proposal and joining their relationship! To be fair, Avalon was hardly an incest game, as there was no option to make Byron blood related to Avalon. The one issue with allowing titles, in a game that has incest, is that it becomes really hard to balance the story or more so the initial resistance/taboo towards a relationship. From what I've seen there are 2 options. Option A: the approach to incest is just adding text that says you're related but otherwise the relationship is unchanged which kind of defeats the purpose of having the kink in the first place. Or Option B: you tailor the game towards family relations and all of a sudden the MC is unwilling to do anything sexual because a character is their roommate which doesn't make sense as well. I'm interested as to how you plan to tackle this, because in the vast majority of games, they tend to heavily lean towards A or B instead of finding a balance.Hey GingerSweetGirl!
We're glad to hear you're enjoying APAT. We've put a lot of effort into the development of the characters and have some big reveals coming in the next release.
This is an interesting comment. We removed the option to choose your own titles in the last release and hardcoded in the relationship as father/daughter. We meant to quell these precise issues that you mentioned as it made writing the dialogue more fluid with the relationship being unchangeable. Interestingly enough, we've received some complaints about the change. Many people prefer the option to be able to choose the titles of the characters. It seems any time we pull in one direction, we get pushback from the other.
We understand that many people don't share the same affinity for incestuous content. We have some ideas for our next work to make the story flow better with or without incest content activated. We're always open to suggestions so if you have any ideas, concerns, or critiques, please let us know.
Thanks again for your support.![]()

Oh, I am all for incest and not step stuff or any kind of censorship. The way its currently done in A Petal Among Thorns is amazing. Its just that I think if you ever decide to make another game with incest (which would be great), then the current approach, of building a story with the idea that they are a family and not just simply adding "dad, daughter" words scattered through the text just for an incest tag (like how some games do), would, once again, work very well.Hey Jaam!
Hope you're enjoying APAT. We understand your concern and where you're coming from. A Petal Among Thorns was written to be a Daddy / Daughter game. If you decide to alter the titles of the characters, we recommend step-daughter and step-father because this would still allow the game to make sense. Any other titles will make the game feel unusual and the plot won't quite make sense.
We don't condone censorship and we're not happy that we have to bend over backward because of these rules but if we don't, we can't make these games at all. We considered having an alternative plotline for 'roommate and landlord' but this would take time away from progressing the story and it's also not our vision.
Until the corporate giants that control whether artists like us live or die loosen up the nooses that they have around our necks, we'll have to suffer censorship. Again, we recommend playing with the titles of Dad and Daughter but it's ultimately up to the player.
Thank you for your support.
Hey again GingerSweetGirl!Personally, in the future I hope you do a strictly non-incest game. This genre is so saturated in the AG industry that I would like to see good devs branch out and write stories. That isn't to take anything away from APAT, but I think there are a wealth of sexy/erotic stories waiting to be told by good developers. And in doing so you won't have to do any of the dancing around to avoid getting in trouble, you can tell your story without fear of backlash. That has to be freeing from a storytelling perspective.
But that's for down the road.

Talk to recreation about cross promoting as he has a lot of fans for his FemC Lesbian-only optionHey again GingerSweetGirl!
We're actually putting Penny's game back into development early next year. We're removing Cassian from being an option as a main protagonist and we're going to focus strictly on Penny. That means there won't be any incest in her game (Penny for Your Thoughts). Cassian will still play a major role in the story but you won't step into his shoes. We'll be doing Third Person Limited starting from Chapter 1 onward following Penny.
We're not sure how many people are going to be interested in a female protagonist lesbian game but the story will be the primary focus with limited sexual scenes. It might not be quite what you're looking for but we're sure excited to be working with Penny again and hope that people decide to give it a try because there's a lot to love in Penny for Your Thoughts.
Thank you for your feedback.![]()
The circumstance is completely different for a few reasons.Talk to recreation about cross promoting as he has a lot of fans for his FemC Lesbian-only option
For anyone who does not know his game lets you pick Male or Female MC at the start
PEACE
P.S. I think the approach(Rec's) where the female lead is treated like most male leads is infinitely superior to the very common female protag is a "sex doll" to corrupt and abuse with dozens of others.
