i can understand your frustration, to some point at least..lonely rejected creature, living in some smelly shady basement, but eager to rule/fuck them all...not gonna happen ever, yet at least he/it has his porn-games to satisfy his/its hunger...and despite there are many of games to his/its particular liking he/it continues to demand more of the same, venturing in various threads, trolling and demanding attention...and he/it gets some of that attention, he/it cant manage it due to him/it being pathetic little wimp lurking in shadows...so yeah, really hard life of your kind creatures

There were some theories that it could be his aunt, Elly's mother, but that doesn't make sense anyway. I mean, why would she even do that? There is no motive in this. So, maybe not everyone, but most people are (rightly) assuming that Elly herself is responsible for it.

We are now doing weekly dev logs, but alternating between our two games. This week, it's all about A Shot in the Dark, and next week we'll give an update on Prince of Suburbia.
Admittedly, this was not our most productive two weeks of work when it comes to A Shot in the Dark. We've had quite a few business-y things taking time away from development, both routine (accounting and taxes) and unexpected (licensing issues).

He is a giant pussy, but....
Keep in mind they are trying to tell an actually story here.
Most AVNs the main character starts as Chad Alphacock, the flawless all conquering, woman-slaying demi-god of the story. Every (female) character loves/lusts for him. Every male character fears or respects him. And its pretty boring. And frankly, so unrealistic that it actually makes it harder for me to enjoy the porno since it kills the suspension of disbelief. Moreover, it kills the character. If he starts out already awesome, then where is the opportunity for growth?
I'll contrast with two similar games I've played in the past. First WVM.
In WVM you play a young man who literally faces no hardship, no adversity. Any challenge to him primacy is easily vanquished withing five minutes of its introduction at most. All females fall to him, with no difficult choices or negative consequences to his actions. In short its like playing a video game with every cheat code turned on. Its fun for a minute, then supremely unsatisfying.
Next, BaD.
In BaD we play as a young man who faces many hardships. Some last for entire episodes, others for entire seasons. Moreover, there are even some problems that he faces that are simply beyond his capacity to fix. He has emotional moments, he doesn't always take everything in a stoic badass way. This creates a sense of reality, because its similar to life and bonds us to the character since we've all had similar experiences. Add to that, the MC MUST choose between (one of the almost unnaturally beautiful) girls he's got a shot with. Some won't reciprocate, based on his choices, which gives weight to his past decisions. Was it worth it to be a bully? Now you can't have Nelly Nice Girl as your fuck buddy? Want to reform Betty Bad Girl? Too bad, she doesn't fuck snowflakes like you.
Now don't get me wrong, its still an AVN, there are tons of girls, they all like you at least a little and there's plenty of unrealistic porn type stuff, but it keeps us grounded, and more importantly it keeps enough structure that we can have a story (which for many of us, ENHANCES the sexiness).
I do think the MC in this game could stand to toughen up, but I also have full confidence in this dev to develop that along his character arc.

Chapter 4 Development
The past two weeks Josselyn has been mainly focused on renders, for a particularly large scene. Right now the scene is about 75% complete with 256 renders done. The game currently has 845 renders completed! TheOmega also finished the Alexis animations and will work on the Paloma animations next. Basically, we're right in the middle of the "content creation" stage of the development phase where there's not a ton to say except we're grinding away as usual!

Steam Release
The December Steam release of A Shot in the Dark is sneaking up on us quickly! The work we do to prep for Steam doesn't get reflected in the progress update percentages, but trust us when we say many, many hours of work have gone into it so far and we still have a lot left to do! Selling our games on Steam is essential to the financial sustainability of our studio, so while it's not the "fun part" it is an important part and something that we take very seriously.
As we've mentioned before, we have someone working on optimizing the code so that we can localize and translate the game efficiently. The first phase of that project is wrapping up, and soon we'll be able to begin the second phase where the game is actually translated. Our hope is to have the game available in multiple languages by the time we release in December, or shortly after.
Because we are already breaking saves due to the code optimization and song replacements, we decided this was also a good time to upgrade from Ren'Py 7.4.11 to Ren'Py 8+. When we'd tried to do it before, it broke the texting feature and created other small bugs, and we didn't have the manpower to deal with it. Now we do, so we're going for it! Upgrading will improve performance for players, and also be easier for our own coders to work with.
We are also excited to be participating in Steam Next Fest which takes place October 9-16, 2023. We have been sprucing up Chapter 1 which is the free demo for the game in preparation for the game and demo being featured heavily on Steam during that timeframe.
It's hard to believe, but most of the renders for Chapter 1 were created around 2 years ago! Josselyn has been gradually going back and "sprucing up" the renders from Chapter 1 so that the demo better reflects the overall visual quality of the game. You only get one chance to make a first impression, and especially on Steam it's important we put our best foot forward!
None of renders from Chapter 1 are being entirely redone, but most of them have hugely benefitted from a little tweaking, mostly of the lighting and camera angles. Here are some examples:

Great that those dudes are doing two games simultaneously...and that the better game (imo ofc) is getting less attention.
Four months later it is at roughly 1/3 done.
Even if they do speed up its development a bit, there wont be any update this year, thats for sure.
